In my arms

I held you in my arms while you told me your sorrows.
I held you while I softly caressed you, winning your trust.
I held you when you let yourself go, letting me drive you to completion.
I held you tight when you screamed out your release.
I held you when you came back to earth, shivering in my arms.
I held you when the tears came, and when you gave in to exhaustion and fell asleep.
And I still held you when you woke up, ashamed at what we had done.

Now my arms are empty.
I will never hold you again.
