THE CURRENT CHALLENGE
THEME: The theme is the Equinox. You can explore it in a literal fashion, centering your fic on the upcoming Spring equinox (or the Fall equinox, if you prefer) or you can explore the concept in a freer way, as long as there is still some resemblance to the theme.
DUE DATE: The deadline for submitting a fic is March 21st 2007. The voting period will be from March 22nd to March 30th 2007.
This challenge is closed. A new one will be announced soon.
SUBMITTING
- THEME: Every entry must be centered on the proposed theme, regardless of your approach.
- SLASH/HET CONTENT: Stories featuring a heterosexual main pairing will not be accepted in the challenge. The stories can have, however, minor heterosexual pairings with bearance to the plot and preferably without explicit content. Emphasis should always be given to slash and/or femslash pairings.
- RATING: All ratings are accepted.
- CONTENTS: Dark fic containing rape, BDSM, torture, whatever is accepted, but NEVER fics depicting paedophilia.
- ART: Art is accepted and encouraged but we rarely receive enough pieces to actually have a competition. We would love to use your art for the challenge's banners if this is the case.
- WIPs/POSTED WORK: No entry can be partially or completely comprised of work previously posted elsewhere or be a part of a larger WIP (although we will accept standalones that fit into a particular 'verse). (I prefer this because a) I don't have anything against someone using an old idea and adapting it to the challenge; b) there is no way for us to know if the person is doing this or not)
- LENGTH: Stories under 500 words (headers excluded) will not be accepted.
- MULTIPLE SUBMISSIONS: You are allowed to submit as many fics and/or art pieces as you wish.
- RPS (real person slash): RPS is allowed, given one or both characters in the main pairing are actors from the LotR movies.
- CROSSOVERS: Crossovers are not allowed. Period.
- ORIGINAL CHARACTERS: The main pairing must have at least one canonical character.
- POSTING: You cannot post your story anywhere or identify it until the results of the challenge are known and the authors disclosed. After that the story is yours to do what you want.
- ADVERTISING: You are free to advertise the challenge by linking to http://www.libraryofmoria.com/currentchallenge.html. DO NOT link to a particular fic ever! We will permanently ban you from participating if we find out. (And trust us, we will monitor it.)
- ARCHIVING: All stories accepted in the challenge will be automatically added to the archive.
- SUBMITING: Please send your submission as a .doc, .rtf, or .txt file attachment to libraryofmoria@gmail.com with "LoM Challenge Fic" in the subject. Do not paste it in the email body - it will most likely reach us with formatting errors or truncated.
- SUBMISSION FORM: You must use the submission form provided below. We will remove the personal information from the fic for the voting period but we will paste it once this period is over.

VOTING
- SINE QUA NON!: You must vote in every category for your votes to be counted. If you really only find one story worthy you can vote on it in every category... although that is not in the spirit of these challenges.
- FAIRNESS: In order to vote fairly, you should read all the entries for the challenge.
- CATEGORIES: There is a set of fixed categories but for every challenge we may add a couple of extra categories depending on the nature of the challenge itself. For the current challenge the categories are:
- Best story (you should chose the story which has overall better quality regarding plot, consistency, writing style, etc. There will be a first and second place but you must chose only ONE story)
- Best embrace of the theme (pick the story which you think best responded to the theme, regarding originality, spirit... There will be a first and second place but you must chose only ONE story)
- Funniest story (Speaks for itself...)
- Angst award (The one that made the stones cry)
- Squick award (Did it made you cringe till it hurt? Then vote for it on this category!)
- Judges' choice (The LoM staff will chose their favorite story)
- VOTING: Send your vote to libraryofmoria@gmail.com with "LoM Challenge Votes" in the subject line.
RESULTS
The results will be listed on the past challenges page and announced in the LoM forum, and on the LoM LJ. We will send a banner to the winners.
