This short chapter should help you understand. Elrond and Celebrian sat grinning at the breakfast table. Glorfindel looked at both of them, blushed and looked away. “I am sorry, Glorfindel. It is just amazing to sit here with you. Please, forgive our gawking.” Celebrian smiled. “There is nothing to forgive, my lady. I am honored to be here and serve both of you.” Glorfindel inclined his head. Elrond eyed Erestor and grinned. “Meldir, I thought I knew everything about you. Why have you kept your life in Gondolin a secret?” “The memories were painful one. Memories of all I had lost, my home, friends, everything I had known, and the one I loved,” he looked at Glorfindel. “I just kept them inside, trying to only remember the good times in Gondolin.” “Is that why you planted the wildflower garden?” Glorfindel asked. “Yes, I remembered it was your favorite garden in Gondolin. You always looked so happy and peaceful when you were in the garden. I wanted to remember you that way.” Erestor blushed. Elrond laughed. “Erestor, I gave you the hardest time when you were planting that garden. I thought you were crazy, planting the flowers as you did. You should have told me it had special meaning for you.” “It did not bother me, Elrond. I knew you could not understand. Now, you know why I spent so much time there.” Elrond nodded. Lindir and Cirdan walked into the hall, offering morning greetings to all. Elrond smiled, it was good to see Lindir so happy. He had been surprised at the couple when he returned, but Lindir seemed very happy so he said nothing. Several days later, Cirdan was getting his things together for his return to the Grey Havens. Lindir sat watching him pack. “I want you to be careful on your trip home, Cirdan. I would hate for something to happen to you.” “Do not worry, Lindir. I am too old to die now,” he laughed and then noticed his real concern. He moved to sit next to Lindir. “I will be fine, melethron. Please, worry not,” he kissed Lindir. “Will you stay with me tonight? It is very likely I will not see you again until you finally sail to Valinor.” Lindir nodded and stroked the soft bearded cheek. “Yes, I will stay with you.” Cirdan leaned into the touch and then pulled Lindir into a snug embrace and kissed him soundly. Cirdan was patient and gentle, caressing, licking and nipping Lindir’s body. He took the young minstrel’s arousal in hand and stroked him. As his hand moved lower to cup the soft sac, Lindir moaned. Cirdan moved lower still and when he gently stroked the hidden entrance; Lindir tensed and grabbed Cirdan’s hand. “Stop! Please do not…” Lindir cried. Cirdan stilled and looked at Lindir, surprised to see tears forming in the violet eyes. “What is it? I thought you wanted this.” “I do want to be with you, but I have never…” Lindir could not meet his gaze. “Pen neth, you told me had had a lover before.” Lindir finally looked Cirdan in the eyes. “I have, Orophin of Lothlorien, but I have never been breeched. Orophin allowed me to take him.” Cirdan stared and wondered of he could allow this. He wanted the beautiful minstrel in his arms, but there had been only one to ever take him and that had been his king. “Lindir, may I ask why you have not allowed anyone to take you?” Lindir turned his head to hide his face. “You will think me silly and young.” Cirdan chuckled. “Everyone is young too me, pen neth,” he lifted Lindir’s chin. “I would never think you silly, but you do not have to tell me if you do not want too.” Lindir blushed but answered. “I am…I am saving myself for someone.” The shipwright smiled and stroked Lindir’s cheek, thinking how very sweet it was. He remembered when he had saved himself for his one true love. Thinking of Ereinion brought tears to his eyes. “Who are you saving yourself for, sweet one?” Seeing no judgment in Cirdan’s eyes, Lindir whispered. “My true love, the one who holds my heart,” Cirdan had lay beside him while Lindir spoke and he turned to face him. “Silly and sentimental isn’t it?” “No, not silly at all. I understand how you feel.” “You do? How?” Cirdan pulled Lindir tighter to his chest. “You see, dear one, I too saved myself for my one true love and he is the only one that has ever taken me.” Lindir’s eyes widened in surprise. “Who was it? What happened to him?” Cirdan’s eyes drifted to the window, where a light breeze blew the sheer curtains. “He fell in battle,” he looked back at Lindir. “He was my king.” Lindir’s mouth fell agape. “You and Ereinion were lovers?” Cirdan nodded and smiled. “Soul mates, although we were never bound. He was fearful of what others would think, but we loved each other very much. Never a day went by that I doubted his love for me.” “Is he in Valinor?” “The Valar have not returned him yet. One day they will and when I sail the final ship from these shores I will be reunited with him for all eternity.” Lindir could not help the tears that fell. “When I sail with my true love, I hope to see you and Ereinion together in Aman.” Cirdan smiled. “You will, pen neth. As for now, I am very much enjoying having you in my arms. Let us sleep; I have a long journey to begin on the morrow.” “I am sorry about tonight, Cirdan.” Cirdan kissed his brow. “Never be sorry for holding true to your beliefs and convictions, Lindir. That truth is what will bring you through this life. Always be true to who you are and what you believe. That is integrity and without it, we are nothing.” Lindir nodded, smiled and kissed him gently on the lips and fell asleep stroking Cirdan’s bearded cheek. Title: The Lord’s Minstrel 10/?? She had never been more beautiful than she was now, her belly swollen with the future heir to Imladris and her whole being shining bright. Over the years since the wedding, Lindir had become the best of friends with Celebrian and had become her confidant. They often had lunch together in one of the gardens. “My lady, you are most stunning today.” Lindir stood and bowed as she neared. Celebrian laughed. “You mean stunningly large, meldir,” she laughed. Lindir helped her sit on the ground at the base of a tree. “No, I mean stunningly beautiful,” he poured some juice for her. “How are you feeling?” Celebrian laughed. “I am feeling well, just a little tired. I am ready for our elfling to arrive.” Lindir took out his harp and began to play for her. “Well, any day now, my lady. I, for one, can not wait to see your elfling.” Two weeks later, Lindir, Erestor and Glorfindel, stood in awe. Lady Celebrian held a sleeping newborn elfling and Lord Elrond held another. “Elrond, there are two.” Glorfindel stated with his eyes wide. Elrond laughed. “Yes, Glorfindel. There are two of them,” he stood and introduced his sons. “My friends, this is Elladan,” he motioned to the little one in his arms and then to the other, “and this is Elrohir, our sons.” Erestor stepped forward and kissed each elfling on the brow. “Welcome, little princes.” Glorfindel followed suit and then Lindir approached and sat on the edge of the bed, smiling at Celebrian. “My lady, they are beautiful. They are perfect.” Lindir had tears in his eyes. Elrohir’s little eyes opened at the sound of Lindir’s voice. Celebrian handed the little bundle to Lindir. “Hold him, meldir.” Lindir took the babe and just stared. “You are the most precious elfling I have ever held,” he then glanced at Elrond, who smiled, and then back to the baby in his arms. “Of course, I am going to tell your brother the same thing when I hold him.” Everyone chuckled. A year later, Lindir and Lady Celebrian were having lunch in the garden. Elladan and Elrohir were toddling around the garden, holding each other’s hands. “They are growing so fast, my lady. They always want to be near each other. The other day, Elrohir was crying and I picked him up. I had only taken two steps when Elladan wailed until I put Elrohir back down next to him. They hugged each other and both calmed.” Lindir shook his head. Celebrian grinned. “I know what you mean, meldir,” she watched as Elladan took a flower and handed it to Elrohir. “If I have one in my lap then I have to have the other there, also. I also have the feeling they are talking to each other. They will get very quiet and look at each other, intently. Then suddenly they start playing like nothing has happened.” She laughed, “If they can do that, you realize we are all in trouble.” Lindir ginned and nodded. When Lindir began playing his harp, the twins walked over to their mother and lay down in her lap. They wrapped their arms around each other and fell asleep quickly. Elrond came a few minutes later and listened as Lindir finished his song. “Lindir, that was beautiful. Is that a new composition?” Elrond asked. “Yes, my lord. I wrote it for the twins after they were born. It always seems to calm them.” Celebrian cleared her throat. “Meleth, tell him.” She raised her eyebrows. Lindir wondered what she could be talking about and then Elrond smiled. “Lindir, as you know, Galmon will be sailing in a few months, which will leave us without a head minstrel,” Lindir nodded. “I have talked to him about his replacement and he would only recommend one other too me.” “I am sure whoever he recommended will be wonderful, although, I do not know how we could ever replace Galmon, he is so wonderful.” Elrond smiled and then continued. “I agree, Galmon will be missed, but I am sure you will do a wonderful job in his place.” Celebrian smiled and watched as Lindir took in Elrond’s words. Lindir nodded. “Yes, I am sure…wait, me? Lord Elrond, what did you say?” Elrond laughed. “You will be my head minstrel, Lindir. Galmon would not recommend anyone else and I whole-heartedly agree. Lindir, please accept. Become the Head Minstrel of Imladris, please.” Lindir’s eyes filled with tears and Celebrian took one of his hands. “Lindir, Head Minstrel of Imladris. Oh, I like the sound of that. What do you say, Lindir?” Lindir smiled through his tears. “I would be honored, Lord Elrond. Are you sure? There are so many other minstrels here.” “I am more than sure. I have spoken with many of the minstrel’s and they are excited for you to lead them.” Elrond stood and pulled Lindir into a hug and Lindir’s heart soared. “Thank you, Lord Elrond. Thank you for your confidence in me.” “You are most welcome, pen neth and most deserving. Now if you will excuse us, I think we need to get these two to their bed.” Lindir held Elrohir and Elladan as Elrond helped Celebrian to her feet. Lindir happily watched the family return to the house. He thought of his mother and father, wishing they could be here with him now. Orophin sat in a mallorn waiting for the visitors to come into view. The Mirkwood contingent had entered the forest and was being escorted towards the city. Orophin and his patrol would take over the escort when they arrived at the designated point. He could hear the party before he could see them. As they came into view, Orophin spotted his brother Rumil, riding with the leader of the Mirkwood elves. He dropped out of the tree and the party stopped. Orophin nodded to his brother and then turned to greet the Mirkwood leader. When he looked up, he met the bluest eyes head ever seen. He quickly schooled his emotions. “Welcome, Prince Legolas.” Rumil grinned at his brother’s reaction and shook his head. “Prince Legolas, this is my brother Orophin. He will escort you into the city and take you too Lady Galadriel and Lord Celeborn.” “Thank you, Orophin. It is an honor to meet you.” Legolas smiled, thinking that the Lorien elves were certainly beautiful, but Orophin was by far the most fair he had yet to meet. “If you will follow me, we should be in the city within two hours.” He motioned with his hand for them to follow. Legolas dismounted his horse. “I would like to walk, if you do not mind, Orophin.” Orophin smiled. “As you wish, my lord.” “Please, call me Legolas.” Orophin smiled and nodded. They walked for sometime, Orophin stealing a glance at Legolas every chance he could. His heart was racing and his stomach was in knots. Legolas was also glancing at the quiet, shy marchwarden walking with him. “Your forest is quite beautiful.” “Thank you. If you would like, I would love to show you around, when you have time.” “That would be wonderful, Orophin. I look forward to it.” Galadriel grinned as they approached them. “My love, look at Orophin. He is blushing and Legolas is as well.” “I see that, my love. It looks like we have found a companion to show the prince around Lothlorien while he is here.” Celeborn snickered. Title: The Lord’s Minstrel 11/?? Lindir was taking care of the twins, but their parents were keeping an eye on them from their private balcony. “He is so wonderful with them, Elrond,” Celebrian smiled as the twins tackled Lindir, one on each leg, bringing him to the ground. “It is too bad he is attracted to ellin and cannot have children.” “I understand your concern, my love, but Lindir is loved by all the elflings here. They clamor to be around him. Especially, two particular elflings. I am beginning to feel a bit jealous. It is always, ‘Ada, where is Lindir? Can we play with Lindir? I want Lindir,’ he laughed. Celebrian kissed him and laid her head on his shoulder. “Then perhaps I should thank Lindir, again. Now we have some time together.” Elrond grinned at her and winked. “Indeed.” Lindir was pretending he was asleep and watched the twins trying to sneak up on him. He hardly stifled a giggle, at the sight of their grinning little faces coming closer. They both hovered over him, looking directly into his eyes and Elrohir whispered. “He is beautiful when he is sleeping.” Elladan nodded. Just as Elladan was about to touch his nose, Lindir roared and sat up, sending both elflings screaming and running. He chased them around the garden shouting. “Who dares wake the sleeping troll? Where are the elflings who disturbed my slumber?” The twins ran as fast as they could, laughing and screaming. “Run, ‘Ro, faster.” Elladan shouted, holding out his hand for his brother. “Help, Dan. He is going to catch me.” Lindir was just in reach of Elrohir when Glorfindel tackled him from the side. “Leave the elflings alone, troll.” Glorfindel roared and winked at Lindir. “Yea!! Glory got him. Glory saved us.” The jumped and danced around the victor and his victim. Lindir laughed. “Thank Eru for Glory.” Glorfindel stood and pulled Lindir off the ground. “You make a lovely troll, meldir,” he snorted. “Well, I have to meet Erestor for lunch. See you all later.” “It is lunchtime. Are you both hungry?” Elladan and Elrohir both nodded. Lindir scooped them up and began walking into the house. “Well, let us eat and then I will play for you before your nap.” “The harp, Lindir, will you play the harp for us?” Elladan asked and Elrohir nodded. “Please.” “The harp it is. Now let us go see what cook has for us too eat.” Lindir took each of them by the hand. Elrond stood in the doorway of the twin’s room, watching Lindir play the harp for the sleeping elflings. Lindir finished the song, kissed them both on the head and turned to leave. He jumped at seeing Lord Elrond standing at the door watching him. “My lord, how long have you been standing there?” “Not long. I heard the end of your song and it was so beautiful, I did not want to interrupt,” he motioned for Lindir to follow him into the hallway. “Thank you, pen neth, for taking care of the twins today. I cannot tell you how much we appreciate it.” “I was my pleasure, Lord Elrond. I love them and I was happy to give you and Lady Celebrian some time to yourselves.” He meant the words but at times, he still felt a twinge of jealousy. “Well, I think I will go and rest myself. Chasing those two around can be quite exhausting.” Elrond watched Lindir walking away. When he was sure Lindir was out of earshot, he whispered. “You will never know how much you mean to me, my Lindir.” Orophin sat at the table in his talan. He had a goblet of wine in one hand and a quill in the other. This letter to Lindir was proving to be more difficult than he had anticipated. With another drink of the wine, Orophin finally began…Dearest Lindir, Several weeks later, Lindir sat with Erestor and Glorfindel, in their office. They had taken lunch together, as Elrond and his family were spending the afternoon at the river. “It is rather quiet, isn’t it?” Glorfindel observed. Erestor nodded. “Ssshhh! Do not spoil it. They will be back soon enough.” Lindir chuckled. “Erestor, that is hardly nice,” he and Glorfindel tried not to laugh too loudly. “Elladan and Elrohir are wonderful little elflings.” “Yes, they are, meldir, but they are a handful, especially at this age. They are into everything and Elladan’s obsession with frogs is out of control. He had three swimming in their bathtub the other day and I found one in my water pitcher this morning.” Erestor smacked Glorfindel on the shoulder when he laughed at him. They were all laughing when an assistant brought in the correspondences. Erestor took them and began sorting. “Oh, Lindir, this one is for you. Hmmm…it is from Lothlorien.” Erestor grinned. “I will take that, thank you.” Lindir grabbed the letter and moved to the window seat. He looked at the letter for some tome, an eerie feeling settled over him. Slowly opening the letter, he began to read. Dearest Lindir, I hope my letter finds you doing well. Things are going well for us here in Lothlorien. I am sure the princes are growing fast and keeping everyone in Imladris on their toes. Well, meldir, I have exciting news and I knew I had to share it with you first. It has happened. I have fallen in love. He is Prince Legolas from Mirkwood. We spent several months together here and soon I will travel to Mirkwood to join him for a season and meet his father. I know this news may be shocking but I also knew that as my dearest friend, you would also rejoice with me. I am truly happy and still wish this kind of love and joy for you, Lindir. Please write me soon and let me know how you are doing. Rumil and Haldir are escorting our lord and lady, to Imladris on their next visit, so I am not sure when I will see you again. I do miss you, hope I can see you soon and I would love you to meet Legolas. I know you will like each other very much. Your loving friend eternally, Orophin Wiping tears away that fell, Lindir sniffed. Erestor and Glorfindel both turned to look at him and then gave each other a cautious look. “It there bad news from Lothlorien, Lindir?” Lindir shook his head and looked at them through his tears. “No. Actually, it is wonderful news. Orophin has fallen in love, it seems. Is that not good news?” Lindir could no longer hold back the tears and they began to fall freely. He bowed his head and his shoulders began to shake with his sobs. They both came to his side, Erestor taking him into his arms and Glorfindel stroking his hair. “Pen neth, I am sorry. Who is this Orophin? I will tear him apart for hurting you.” Glorfindel said, feeling very protective of Lindir. “No, ‘Fin. It really is wonderful news. I am happy for him. He is a truly good friend and he deserves this happiness more than any other I know. It was just a shock and…just makes me realize how foolish I am.” Lindir took the tissue Erestor handed him and stood. Erestor had remained silent, knowing what Lindir meant. Lindir hugged them both. “I will see you at dinner. I am going to lie down for a while.” As he reached the door, Glorfindel asked, “Lindir, why would this make you feel foolish?” Lindir never looked up as he opened the door. “I am a fool for loving someone who will never love me the same way,” he took a deep breath and sighed. “It was just a child’s silly dream.” Glorfindel had tears in his eyes as Lindir shut the door. “What is he talking about, my love?” Erestor took Glorfindel in his arms. “Come, it is a long story.” Elrond had just told a servant to hold dinner for a few moments to allow Lindir time to arrive. “My lord, Lindir requested a tray be sent to his room. I do not think he will dine in the hall tonight.” The servant waited for Elrond’s reply. “Well then, you may serve dinner now, I guess.” Elrond’s brow knitted. Glorfindel looked at Erestor and received a slight shake of the head, Erestor’s signal for ‘Fin to say nothing. Celebrian was busy tending to Elladan and Elrohir, so she did not see the signal but Elrond had. “Erestor, is there something wrong with Lindir?” “He will be fine, my lord. He just needs a little time to himself, apparently.” Erestor poured some wine. Celebrian heard the exchange. “What is it? Should I go and check on him?” “No, my lady. I assure you, he will be all right.” Erestor smiled, hoping they would drop the subject. After dinner, the twins were becoming anxious. “Who is going to play for us, Ada?” Elladan asked. “Lindir always play after dinner. I want Lindir.” Elrohir was becoming very upset. Glorfindel stood and took each Elfling by the hand. “I agree. We need Lindir. Why don’t I take you both to see him,” he nodded to Elrond. “I will return them to you shortly.” Elrond nodded and they watched as the warrior left with each elfling slung over a shoulder. Both were giggling and squirming as they were carried out. When Erestor’s attention was turned back to the table, Elrond stared him down. “Meldir, what is wrong with Lindir?” Erestor tried to assure Elrond and his obviously concerned wife. “Please, Elrond, Celebrian, do not worry he will be fine.” “ERESTOR!” Elrond yelled. “Tell me. Lindir has not missed a meal in the halls in decades. What has happened?” Erestor’s head snapped forward when Elrond yelled and he narrowed his eyes at Elrond. Never, in all their years together, had Elrond ever raised his voice at his friend. Elrond took a deep breath. “I am sorry, meldir. I am just worried about him. He has been with us since he was an elfling.” “Yes, Elrond. I was there too, remember?” “Of course. Please tell me what has happened.” Celebrian cleared he throat. “Erestor, I can leave you alone if you need to talk to Elrond in private.” “No, my lady, stay. You and Lindir are the best of friends. He may need you,” Celebrian refilled their wine and took Elrond’s hand. “Lindir received a letter from Orophin. It seems that Orophin has fallen in love with Prince Legolas of Mirkwood, and although Lindir is very happy for him, it was hard for him to hear. I think he just needs some time to sort out his feelings.” “Oh the poor dear. I know he and Orophin were close, very close and although Lindir had admitted that he and Orophin were not soul mates, he cared deeply for him.” “Should I go and see him, Erestor?” Elrond asked. “No, Elrond. I think that would not be a good idea. Just leave him be and see how he is tomorrow,” Elrond nodded and kissed Celebrian’s hand. “I will go and rescue him from the three elflings.” Celebrian snorted. “Please tell him to call on me if he wants to talk or just needs a shoulder to lean on.” Erestor nodded once and bowed as he left. As he stood outside Lindir’s room, he smiled listening to the laughter inside. He knocked and opened the door. Lindir smiled as he entered. “Well, this will teach me to miss dinner in the halls.” “You cannot hide from us. Elladan and Elrohir will hunt you down.” The twins laughed and curled up in Lindir’s lap. “Lindir is going to play one more song for us, Restor. Come and sit down.” Elrohir patted the bed near him. Lindir began to play and the twins watched him adoringly. Glorfindel and Erestor watched them and Glorfindel whispered in Erestor’s ear. “I know this may seem a silly question, but I love you so much and feel so blessed that we have found each other again. Meleth, will you marry me?” Erestor smiled and slowly nodded. “I love you, my ‘Fin. Of course I will.” He kissed Glorfindel and looked at Lindir, who was lost in the song. “Perhaps we should keep this to ourselves for the moment.” He motioned towards Lindir. “I understand and I agree.” Glorfindel pulled Erestor to his chest and they stayed there until Lindir’s song was through and then took two very sleepy elflings back to their parents. One month later, Glorfindel and Erestor stood before Lord Elrond and Lady Celebrian. The twins stood perfectly still, next to their father and Lindir sat near Celebrian and was playing his harp. After the couple recited their vows, Elrond and Celebrian had asked for blessings upon the couple and Glorfindel grabbed Erestor and dipped him backward in a passionate kiss. The kiss may have lasted longer but Elladan and Elrohir started giggling, which caused others to snicker and laugh. “Ewww…Ada, ‘Fin stuck his tongue in Restor mouth.” Elladan stated rather loudly. Elrohir began giggling louder. Glorfindel and Erestor were trying to ignore everyone, but with Elladan’s statement, they could no longer contain their laughter and broke the kiss. They turned to look at the giggling elflings and growled. Elladan and Elrohir screamed and began running with Glorfindel and Erestor close behind. They ran around their parents and all the guests and headed for Lindir. “Save us, Lindir.” They cried in unison. Lindir stood and let them hide behind him. “I think you are safe now, pen dithen. They are kissing again.” They both peeked from behind Lindir. “Ewww…,” and began giggling again.
