THE RAINBOW OVER THE WATERFALL “Do you think he will like this?” Glorfindel asked hopefully, studying at the picnic-basket he had on the table. Elrond smiled fondly at his seneschal, thinking, that nobody in his right mind wouldn’t reject Glorfindel. The elda was one of the most lovable elves Elrond had ever known. In a time Glorfindel had been in Imladris, he had also succeed in something, that had seemed almost impossible. He had befriended with Erestor, the distant and cold chief- councilor. Elrond knew that Erestor’s icy appearance was only a mask, to hide the fact that the councilor was extremely shy. But no one had ever had enough courage to pursue him. Glorfindel had arrived to Imladris ten years ago, and had taken the liking to Erestor at the very first sight. He had been determined to win Erestor’s friendship. Now that friendship seemed to grew to something more. “I’m sure he will love it. Erestor is a lucky elf, you know.” Elrond assured at his friend. “Am I so obvious?” Glorfindel groaned, blushing. “Aye, you are. You just radiate every time he is near.” Elrond chuckled, amused. Glorfindel frowned. “I just hoped that Erestor would be just as obvious. He had never given any sign that he wanted anything other than friendship with me.” “I wouldn’t say so. You have to remember that Erestor has always been very private elf. I have known him for centuries, but I cannot say I knew him well. You instead had managed to get closer to him, much closer than anyone else.” “I hope that you are right. Maybe it is madness to confess my feelings to him, but I can’t hide them much longer. I love him so much and I want to make him mine.” Glorfindel sighed, closing the basket. “I think that your idea is excellent. He would be at least grateful to you that he doesn’t need to attend tonight’s celebration. Feel free to stay as long as you like.” Elrond said, smiling. “Thank you, Elrond. I really appreciate for your kindness.” “It is I who should be grateful to you, and even more to Erestor. He had every year organized wonderful Valentine’s day celebration but never attended himself, even if he was asked. It is time that he enjoys the day, even if it happened somewhere else than in the celebration.” Glorfindel took his goodbyes and went to seek his friend. Deep in his heart he hoped that they would be much more than that, before the day was over. **************************************************************** ****** Glorfindel went to Erestor’s study and noticed Erestor completely focused at his working. “Erestor? Can I come in?” He asked, hesitantly. Erestor was sometimes a little grumpy to those who dared to disturb his working. He was relieved, after seeing that a shy smile splitting on Erestor’s face, as he beckoned him to come in. “What can I do for you, Glorfindel?” The councilor asked. “I came, because of the Valentine’s day celebration.” Glorfindel started, but stopped, after seeing a panic in Erestor’s eyes. “What about them?” Erestor asked suspiciously. “Well… I just thought… would you mind if you wouldn’t attend this year?” “What do you mean? I never attend to them, much to Elrond’s dismay.” “He won’t scold you this year, because I am not very eager myself to attend to them. I rather spent this day with you alone, and I even went to Elrond to ask, if it is all right. So… would you come with me?” Erestor hesitated for a moment, but then obeyed. He had to admit, that he rather spent this day with Glorfindel than alone in his room. Year after year he had had no one who had invited him to spend the Valentine’s day. Erestor was sad about the fact, but he didn’t want anyone’s pity, so he rather hid his pain deep inside him. “So, where are we going?” He asked, when Glorfindel led him trough the corridors. “First, you need to change into something more comfortable. After that you will see.” Glorfindel smiled. **************************************************************** ***** Erestor stared at his wardrobe, desperately. What in Arda he would wear? Most of his clothing were formal robes, usually black. Glorfindel had had tight grey leggings and pale blue shirt, so no robes this time. But what he could… Finally Erestor remembered the attire he had never worn before. He had received the clothes as a gift but thought it far too fitting, that he would feel himself comfortable. But on the other hand, Glorfindel always wore this kind of clothes, so would it be so bad, if he would wear them, just this one day? After long hesitation Erestor decided to wear them, no matter what. When he finally had changed, he looked his reflection from the mirror for a long time. What Glorfindel would think of him, when he saw him dressed like this? How he hoped, that the elda would think him attractive… “Where that came from? Glorfindel is a friend! Only a friend, you must remember that.” Erestor quickly reminded himself. He knew that Glorfindel would never see him any other than a friend, and it was far too painful to hope anything else. Erestor started when he heard a knock at the door. “Erestor? Are you coming?” Glorfindel asked, beginning to fear that Erestor had changed his mind. The door opened, and Erestor shyly peeked out. Glorfindel almost forgot how to breath, when he saw his friend. Erestor wore tight black leggings and deep-blue shirt and the attire hid very little of what lay beneath those clothes. Erestor was absolutely stunning! “I just thought… is this a proper clothing to what you have planned?” Erestor finally whispered, awkward when Glorfindel didn’t say anything. “Oh… uhm… aye. You are beautiful, Erestor.” Glorfindel finally blurted out, without thinking. “Well… ah… thank you. Shall we go, then?” Erestor suggested, blushing. He hadn’t used to compliments, for he never knew how to answer to them. But he couldn’t prevent himself smiling. Glorfindel had said him beautiful! Glorfindel finally managed to gather his wits, and they stepped into beautiful day. The weather was perfect to picnic, and Elrond had shown him a most beautiful place to go. Today, they would surely have their own peace in there, because everyone was getting ready to the celebration. **************************************************************** ****** After a short walking, they finally arrived in a little meadow between high cliffs. Behind the meadow were a waterfall, and a little pond. The sight was breathtaking, but Erestor was little hesitating. “This is a very popular place, Glorfindel. Didn’t you say that you wanted to be alone with me? This one is hardly the place where we had any peace of our own. “ “Maybe this is, usually, but you must remember what day it is. Everyone are surely getting ready to the evening’s celebration.” “I hope that you are right. And the place is beautiful, I must admit. Though, I don’t come here often, because there are usually too much people in here.” “So, let’s just enjoy ourselves now, when we have a chance to do so.” Glorfindel smiled, and beckoned Erestor sit down on the blanket. They settled comfortably, and soon uneasiness disappeared. Erestor sometimes wondered, how he felt himself so comfortable with Glorfindel, when closer relationships usually frightened him. But soon he forgot the thought, when Glorfindel smiled at him. How beautiful his friend was! So beautiful, that Erestor would have given anything for the privilege to call him his. But that would never happen. Glorfindel sensed the tension growing between them, and made a desperate effort to ease it. Erestor was so cunning that he would notice his feelings at any moment, if he weren’t more careful. And he wasn’t fully ready to pour his heart out. “So…what you say, if we went to swim?” Erestor’s eyes widened, and Glorfindel cursed inwardly his carelessness. How in Arda he would hide his attraction if they were naked? Even more he started, when Erestor nodded. “I would like that.” The dark-haired elf said and stood up. He undressed quickly, before he would loose his courage and ran to the pond. Glorfindel watched in awe, when Erestor gracefully jumped into water. At his surprise, his friend seemed to be completely comfortable in the water. “Come on! It’s wonderful here!” Erestor called out. Glorfindel hadn’t any other choice but go, even if he felt that this was a big mistake. His body had reacted at the sight of Erestor’s willowy body, even if he had seen it only a fleeting moment. Erestor swam around, avoiding to look at Glorfindel, when the elda approached. He knew that if he would see Glorfindel in all his glory, he would embarrass himself completely. He turned only when he heard a splash behind him. “How it is, that you swim like a fish? You seem so comfortable in the water.” Glorfindel asked, breaking the silence. Erestor smiled, remembering his happy childhood. “My ada and nana lived in Balar’s island, and I learned to swim before I could barely walk.” He explained. “Where are your parents now?” A sad expression split on Erestor’s face, ant it took quite a while before ha answered. “My ada was on a trip to Doriath, when orcs ambushed to his escort. All in the escort died, and my nana faded with grief. “ “Oh, Erestor! I’m so sorry that I asked. I didn’t mean to bring painful memories to you.” Glorfindel whispered, regretting his question. “It’s all right. I still miss them, but my memories of my parents were so happy that I don’t want to forget them. Rather I speak of ada and nana, and remember how much I loved them.” Erestor smiled. They continued their swimming, laughing and bantering, until sudden squall of rain fell upon them. Glorfindel groaned with frustration. “Now there went our clothes! I’m sorry, meldir. This wasn’t my thought when I invited you to picnic.” “What was your intention, then?” Erestor asked, surprised. “Well… I…” Glorfindel stuttered, blushing. How in Arda he was this clumsy, when he thought of speaking to Erestor? If he wanted to win his beloved’s heart, he needed to do much better than this meaningless babbling. “Glorfindel?” “Have you ever been in love, Erestor?” Glorfindel finally managed, after gathering his wits. “Me? Why do you ask?” Erestor was alert, for he wasn’t ready to share his painful secret with his friend. The plain truth was, that he had never been approached by anyone. His shyness had prevented that. He had allowed Glorfindel closer, only because he couldn’t deny him anything. At the very first sight he had fallen in love with this beautiful elf, and later his feelings had grown into unrequited love. But Glorfindel would never love him, this he knew. Glorfindel was a radiating beauty, always joyous and full of life. His mere presence made Erestor’s day brighter. And he himself… he was somber and silent, rather stayed in shadows and avoided the other’s company. “I ask, because…May I speak freely to you, Erestor?” “Of course. If there is something in your mind, I want to know of it and help, if I can.” Erestor said, trying to hide his reluctance. What if, Glorfindel was in love with someone? What if, he wanted to say that he wasn’t to be his friend anymore? Glorfindel went to Erestor, taking his hand. In his surprise, he found it shaking slightly. Slowly, he met Erestor’s eyes and saw them shimmering. His heart jumped. Erestor had never seemed more beautiful, and Glorfindel wanted nothing more than take him in his arms and never let go. Erestor’s heart started to race, when Glorfindel came closer. Inwardly, he was thankful for the cool water that hid his body’s reaction. All his instincts demanded him to flee, to escape from Glorfindel’s heady closeness before he would embarrass himself completely. He tried to focus on Glorfindel’s face, and felt almost drowning into his cerulean eyes. The seemed to shining only for him. “What I wanted to tell you, was… that I fell in love with you at the moment I saw you first time. I wanted to court you, Erestor.” Erestor stared at Glorfindel, his mouth agape. He couldn’t believe this. That Glorfindel had just uttered the words he had dreamed of. “You… you wanted to court me? Really?” “Aye, I would. Will you let me?” Glorfinde whispered hopefully. At least Erestor hadn’t turned him down, yet. After a moment that felt whole eternity, Glorfindel saw a blinding smile appearing on Erestor’s beautiful face. “I want you to court me. I love you too.” Erestor said shyly, a beautiful blush coloring his cheeks. For a moment, Glorfindel could only stare at Erestor, hardly believing that his dream had become truth. He still held Erestor’s hand, not wanting to ever let go. “Erestor…. May I…kiss you?” Glorfindel finally asked, his voice full of longing he couldn’t hide anymore. For so long he had dreamed of this moment. Erestor could only nod and hot tremors of anticipation washed over him. He trembled, when Glorfindel gently pulled him closer and cupped his cheek. After moment’s hesitation their lips met in first, breathtaking kiss. Erestor moaned softly, when Glorfindel tasted him thoroughly, holding him tightly in his arms. He buried his hands in Glorfindel’s hair, running his fingers trough golden locks. Glorfindel kissed and caressed Erestor with all longing and love he had held in his heart. He didn’t see beautiful nature around them, nor felt the coolness of water. All that mattered, was Erestor in his arms, returning his kisses with equal fervor. Glorfindel forgot everything else but his beloved’s heady closeness. When they finally broke the kiss, both panted heavily, and their bare bodies trembled against each other. “Look, meleth. The rain had stopped. I think we should go, and try to dry our clothes.” Glorfindel suggested with a hoarse voice. Erestor obeyed, and together they hung their clothes on the tree, letting a sun dry them. When they finally sat on the blanket, Erestor gasped with admiration. “Look, Glorfindel! A rainbow! Isn’t it beautiful?” “It is, indeed. But you are much more beautiful. Come here, I want you close.” Glorfindel whispered with a sultry voice that send waves of desire thought Erestor’s body. “How close you want me?” He murmured, pressing against Glorfindel. “As close as possible, but I don’t want to push you, meleth. If you would rather wait, I am ready for it. Just tell me, what you want.” Erestor thought for a moment, but found that he didn’t want to wait. He wanted to belong to Glorfindel, the sooner, the better. “For so long I have dreamed of you, meleth, but never dared to hope that you would return my feelings. I thought, that I would very much like you to make love with me here, in the waterfalls, a rainbow over us.” Erestor whispered, blushing. **************************************************************** ***** And so it happened, that in that spell- bound night Glorfindel and Erestor joined their bodies, hearts and souls together, forever. No one didn’t dare to disturb their peace, and they spent the whole day and following night in each other’s arms. Anar was rising in the horizon, when they finally slept, completely exhausted but happy. And following years they returned in to the same place, to celebrate their happiness, and to make love in the waterfalls, a rainbow over them. FIN.
