It had been a long day but, in the end, a successful one in his eyes. Erestor had finally taken that step and was allowing Glorfindel to court him properly. He was in the process of wrapping a robe around himself when there was a knock at his door. Elrond knew without opening that it would be his eldest. “You may come in, Elladan.” The elder twin stepped inside the room, a rueful smile on his face. “I will not even ask how you knew it was me.” “Considering your interest in what has been happening between our advisor and seneschal, I would be a fool not to know,” Elrond responded. “Are they betrothed?” Elladan asked. Elrond shook his head. “No, not yet.” “Then why did you say before you were discussing betrothal details?” “To spur Erestor into action. I knew full well they would not betroth themselves to each other straight away; there is the small matter of a courtship to go through first. Even though Glorfindel and Erestor had been seeing each other for the last two years, it was not a true courtship.” “I do not understand. To spur Erestor into action? How?” “He has accepted Glorfindel into his heart, his life. It was he who stated that ‘the courtship begins now’.” Elladan looked at his father, a bemused smile on his face. “Would it not have been easier to tell them they should start courting?” Elrond grinned. “And miss out on their reactions? Allow your father a little amusement, ionen. And it brought back the Erestor we all have grown to love. I think this courtship will provide some fireworks that will rival those of Gandalf.” Elladan began to laugh, and was soon joined by his father. ************************ Elvish translations: ionen – my son *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* To be continued in ‘Courting an Elf’
