Silver Dreams By Aithilin (nimcuran_aithilin@hotmail.com) Pairing(s): Elladan/Elrohir/Legolas, Celebelei(OC)/Legolas Rating: R, NC-17 in some places Summery: What if Legolas was a reborn Elf? Disclaimer: I own only the characters that aren't in the books. Mine, mine I tell you. Everything else was created by Tolkien. Warning: slash, angst, stuff? A/N: Just playing around with a few ideas. ************************************************************ Legolas looked around, it seemed that both land and water were stained crimson with the flowing blood of his kin. He could see the massacre, hear the cries of pain and betrayal. He had no weapon, none of the Sindar did. Looking around frantically, one figure caught his eye. A Vanyar with silver hair, trying to push through the carnage to get to him. Legolas knew there was safety in those arms. He began to run, maybe if he could get to the Vanyar Elf and then reach a weapon, maybe he could help his kin. The impact of a blow and the following pain caused him to falter. The last sight he had was of the silver eyes of the Vanyar, filled with worry and grief. ******************* Legolas sat up quickly, the last image of his dream played through his mind. After gathering his bearings, he looked around. He was in his bed, safe in Ithilien, with Elladan and Elrohir on either side of him. He fell back into the pillows. "What wakes the Golden Prince?" Elrohir asked softly as he opened his grey eyes. Movement from his other side drew Legolas' attention. Elladan pulled him close, "Was it the sweet song of the morning bird? Or did a dark dream fill your vision?" Legolas sighed into Elladan's embrace and smiled as he felt Elrohir's hands on his back. "A dream," Legolas replied. "Nothing more." "Do you wish to tell us of it?" Elrohir asked as he finger-combed Legolas' fine hair. Legolas shook his head. Elladan smiled at his brother and both moved too fast for Legolas' drowsy mind to follow. The younger Elf found himself on his back looking up into two identical faces. He unconsciously noted that the deep grey eyes he was looking into were only a few shades darker than the eyes of the beautiful Elf in his dream. He mentally chided himself and smiled up at his twin lovers. Elladan kissed him sweetly before moving to let Elrohir kiss the younger Elf more roughly. Legolas moaned as Elrohir licked and nipped his way down to his naval. Elladan claimed Legolas' mouth again and pinned the younger Elf's hands against the headboard. Elrohir looked up and smiled, "Perhaps we can help take your mind away from your dreams?" Legolas moaned as Elrohir teased him into full arousal. Elladan chuckled as Legolas closed his eyes when Elrohir took him into his mouth. He bent to give Legolas a searing kiss before laying gentle kisses along his jaw. "Watch him Golden Prince," Elladan whispered as he licked the delicate tip of Legolas' ear. The younger Elf obeyed. Elrohir smiled and held Legolas' hips steady as he worshipped his cock with lips and tongue. Legolas cried out as he came. Elladan swallowed the sound with a kiss and Elrohir swallowed Legolas' seed as if it were milk. Elrohir smiled as he moved to lie next to the two. Legolas panted and purred as the twins kissed him again. Elladan let go of Legolas' wrists and wrapped his arms around the other's waist. Elrohir had once again claimed the blonde's lips. "Can you take us both?" Elladan asked softly, his hand coming to rest on Legolas' inner thigh. Legolas nodded, moaning into Elrohir's mouth as Elladan stroked him with one hand and retrieved a bottle of oil with the other. He inserted two slickened fingers into Legolas, seating himself slowly after preparing him gently. Seeing the slight pain that crossed the golden features, Elrohir kissed him lovingly before shifting so Legolas could take him into his mouth and vice versa. They moved in a slow rhythm until their control shattered. Elrohir and Legolas climaxed together, with Elladan close behind. Collapsing, they lay together, spent and content. Elrohir moved so he could kiss Legolas and his brother before falling against the soft pillows and sheets. Elladan wrapped his arms around the two protectively. Legolas smiled, "I think that helped." The twins chuckled. ************************************** The birds were happily singing praises to the Elves that had planted fine strong trees in Ithilien. A cooling breeze prevented the overheating of the Men that aided the Wood-Elves in their restoration. Legolas wandered a path made in the thickening forest, thinking and listening to the soft songs of the trees and animals. He was pleased with the progress his kin were making, but a shadow still held a fast grip on his mind. Elladan and Elrohir had gone off with the hunting party, and he would soon visit Gondor to speak with Aragorn. It had been only two years since Elessar's coronation, and only one since the birth of his firstborn, Eldarion. Peace had settled well over all borders, though restlessness had already started to eat away at all members of what had been the Fellowship. Gimli was visiting often, usually with gifts of mithril, gold, crystal, and emerald for his friend. The last visit had brought an elegant mithril circlet "fit for a prince," as the gruff Dwarf had put it. Legolas wore it gladly. Aragorn spoke of taking the time to wander again, Gondor more than ready to let him leave for a month or so to pay visit to their Hobbit friends. Elrond had not yet left for the West, neither had Legolas' family in the proudly renamed Greenwood the Great. His second eldest brother came regularly, often taking over his duties so he could take the time to walk his paths. Legolas' mind turned back to his dream. It had been clearer than any other he had had, a vision perhaps. He had heard the sea even through the cries of the dying, it was not the welcoming song he was used to now. It was mournful, as if the spirits were mourning the death of the Elves. Legolas stopped as he remembered the stories his father had told him as a youngling. The Kinslaying. The Noldor taking the boats of the sea-faring Elves by force, killing thousands of innocents in the process. All in pursuit of the Silmarils. Legolas was certain that what he had witnessed was the Kinslaying. But the Vanyar Elf, and the feeling of love that accompanied the thought of the silver haired and eyed Eldar, was a mystery still. "Well, it seems that Elves can get lost in thought. So much that they notice not the steps of a Dwarf." Legolas smiled at the familiar gruff voice and turned to face Gimli. He dropped to the Dwarf's level to embrace his friend. Gimli looked the Elf over, taking immediate notice of the troubled look in the normally bright blue eyes. "What troubles you my friend?" Legolas smiled and sat next to a sapling, "I was thinking of a vision I've been having lately. 'Tis nothing for you to worry about. What brings you here?" Gimli gave Legolas a suspicious look but sat next to his friend, "I've come to see if you wish to accompany me on a trip north. I have little time to spend with my father, and I'm certain you would wish to see your own father." Legolas nodded, "I would love to journey with you. I have few duties here now." Gimli smiled, "What of Elladan and Elrohir?" Legolas blushed at Gimli's knowing look, "If they wish, I would have them come." "Of course. How goes things here?" Legolas sighed, "The trees grow strong and fast, their roots already deep. The land heals." Gimli nodded, "The Caves still bring wealth, Khazad-Dum is still strong as well, though there is little for me in either place now." "I understand the feeling. Do you feel restless? As I do?" "Perhaps. You continue to hear the call of the sea, you wish to leave?" Legolas nodded sadly, "Yes. But I have ties still to these lands. This new dream only keeps me here as well." "What dream is this? If it keeps you from finding your peace, then it is not nothing." Legolas told the Dwarf of his vision. He felt guilty about the strong emotion he felt for the silver Elf. He wished to return the passion that the twins gave him, but he couldn't. He loved them yes, but not to the same degree. "You must think me a fool. Feeling love for one I have never met, when I have two who share my bed now." Gimli patted his friend's shoulder, "If you must know, I've always thought you strange, mad at times, but never a fool. There are sayings among my people that the love you feel true will first be in your dreams. It's only a matter of finding them once you've felt their spirit." Legolas smiled slightly, "And what of the twins? I do not wish to hurt them, but I cannot lie to them." "Then the truth is what must be told," Gimli said firmly. Legolas nodded and laughed, "When did you become so wise my friend Dwarf?" "When you became so sorrowful. Now, where is the annoyingly playful Elf I came to visit? Or has he gained some maturity in my absence?" Legolas grinned, "Thank you my friend." Gimli smiled, "Dwarves are fast in friendship Legolas. But come, I wish to leave tomorrow. And I have traveled long, where are all those manners you claimed to have had drilled into you as a prince?" Legolas laughed and stood, "They have abandoned me when I met you Gimli." ****************************** Legolas made his way to his chambers slowly, not wishing to face the twins yet, but doing so under threat of a painfully slow death from Gimli. The Dwarf rested in the room he used during his visits. Feinereg had been happy to take command when Legolas left, agreeing that his little brother needed a trip home. Guards had said that Elladan and Elrohir were taking rest after a hunt that was longer than usual. He sighed when he reached the door and opened it slowly. Elladan lay on the large bed with a book while Elrohir inspected their blades. They both smiled at Legolas but frowned when they saw the troubled expression. "What is it Legolas?" Elrohir asked, clearly worried. Elladan stood and moved to stand in front of Legolas. The elder Elf placed a hand on the younger's cheek and looked deeply into the blue eyes before him, concern plain on his face. "Pray tell Legolas, what troubles you so?" Legolas took a deep breath and closed his eyes. CHAPTER 2 ************************************************************ Legolas rode on Arod, enjoying the feeling of the wind on him. Gimli sat behind him as before, but there was no conversation or trades of wit to liven the mood. The twins would not join them. Tears almost returned to his eyes as he thought of the two sons of Elrond. Legolas had told them of his feelings, but they hadn't taken it well. Elrohir was upset and left immediately, Legolas couldn't find him in the morning either. Elladan stayed with him, seeing how much pain the confession caused. ************ ~~Flashback~~ "Why did you not tell us earlier!?" Elrohir demanded. "If you wished to save us from pain, it didn't work." "Elrohir, please-" "Let me alone." Elrohir shrugged Legolas away. Grabbing his sword and quiver before storming away. Legolas could feel the tears burning his eyes, he hadn't known what to expect, but this had never entered his mind. He feared turning to Elladan, but knew he must. The other sat back on the bed, considering what was said. He looked up to see Legolas and stood. Legolas was expecting him to act as Elrohir had. He was surprised to feel the hunter's arms encircle him and a hand rubbing his back soothingly. Elladan had always been protective, trying to make sure that pain never touched those he loved. The thought pushed Legolas further into his grief, he had been the source of pain. "Elladan..." Elladan shook his head, "Shhh. You don't need to explain yourself. I understand, even if my brother does not." Legolas buried himself against the broad chest. He hated not knowing what to do. He thought it ironic that after so long of earning respect as an adult, he was still such a child. Elladan held him close, soothing him as best he could. "Legolas," Elladan drew away slightly and tilted the blonde's chin to look at him closely; "I do love you. As does Elrohir. But this knowledge...it's upsetting." Legolas nodded glumly, feeling guilty. Elladan kissed away his tears. "I love you dear Golden Prince, and that is why I understand. Your happiness is more important to me than my own. I will speak with Elrohir tomorrow." Legolas nodded, "Thank you Elladan." ~~End Flashback~~ ********************* The night had been spent in Elladan's arms. A comforting embrace, though it hadn't been enough to keep his dreams at bay. Elladan was still there in the morning, looking at him carefully. He stayed still until the elder Elf spoke. They had parted early that morning, Elladan off to find his brother and Legolas to ready himself for the journey. Gimli had said nothing of Legolas' sad countenance that morning, the Dwarf had simply patted his arm in a comforting gesture. Feinereg had been worried for his brother, but was called to duty before he could speak on he matter. Legolas was relieved for that, if Feinereg had though one of the twins had hurt him, there would be a far worse confrontation than what had taken place last night. Legolas stopped so that Arod could rest. Gimli grumbled about having to ride half-heartedly as he wandered to stretch. Legolas smiled as they settled in the familiar banter that had started their friendship. They would arrive on the eastern borders of Mirkwood by nightfall, though their families would still be another half day to reach if they stopped to camp. Gimli was against stopping for the night, he understood the need to rest periodically, but camping for the duration of the night was unnecessary. Legolas agreed with him and they decided to continue on. ********************************** ~~**(Skipping Ahead....)**~~ Legolas parted with Gimli, the Dwarf had Thranduil's welcome in the Elven-kingdom at any time so he would search out Legolas when the time came for their return trip. Guards greeted their prince enthusiastically, wasting no time in bringing him directly to the palace. Legolas smiled at the pleasure of simply being in a familiar place. He let the twins, sea-longing, and dreams fall to the back of his mind. He would speak with his father on the matter later. Upon reaching the palace, Nimelen practically tackled his younger brother. The eldest, Rhiernil, settled for the same pleased greeting Thranduil gave and Legolas knew he would be able to tease his eldest brother later for taking duties as Crown Prince too seriously. Since it was late, Thranduil made sure his youngest son took his leave for rest almost immediately. Legolas was grateful for his father's fussing for a change and sighed in contentment at the familiarity of returning to where he had grown up. His room had always been open, Legolas was the only one in his family to thoroughly dislike caves. Only his relief at seeing Gimli alive had made him promise to see the Glittering Caves. His room was closest to the forest itself, so much that the wall was entwined with an ancient tree. Legolas loved it, the feeling of nature within the home his father had made to protect his family. He practically fell onto the large bed, asleep as soon as he touched it. ********** The stars shone overhead, ever-present as always. The far away light was tempting to all on the shore, but the sea even more so. Legolas lay on the soft grass, looking into the sky and daydreaming. The silver Vanyar Elf appeared before him with a playful smile. "What are you doing out here all alone Little Star?" "I was watching the sky, and I'm not that far out." The other Elf shrugged, "Some closer to the city have been taken by Shadow." "I'm not a child," the name of the other came instantaneously to Legolas' mind; "Celebelei."* The Vanyar smiled, "That you are not, but a child still when compared to others." Legolas snorted, "Then don't compare." Celebelei chuckled and offered his hand to the younger Elf, "Come, you are missed." ********** Legolas blinked back into consciousness. Not moving from his bed, he let the dream replay in his mind. A welcome change from the horrors of the last, but disturbing in its realism none the less. So the silver Elf was finally given a name, Celebelei, Silver Dream. It fitted the Vanyar. The night wind and long grass had felt real against him and Legolas started to wonder why these dreams were so much more vivid than any before. He looked out the window and saw the sun already risen and gave up on this new dream. He could remember stories of how the sun never graced the sky until the coming of Men. Sighing, Legolas grabbed some of his clothes and went to wash before finding his father and brothers. ****** "You were missed at breakfast dear brother," Nimelen said once he saw his younger brother. Legolas started at the choice of words, 'you are missed.' His family seemed to have missed the sudden tension in their youngest member and continued on. Thranduil finally shooed the other two off so he could talk with Legolas alone. "What troubles you Legolas?" Legolas sighed, "Dreams father. Strange visions of time before Men. They are constant and beginning to worry me." Thranduil saw the fatigue on his son's face, "They are but dreams, let them trouble you not." Legolas nodded, "I know Ada, but they seem so real at times. Perhaps Elrond could tell me their meaning." "Perhaps, though you should not leave again so soon after arriving. Stay a while before you rush off into another adventure." Legolas smiled at his father's teasing tone. Of course he would stay. ******************** A few days of teasing and playing later, a summons arrived from Rivendell. Aragorn had arrived there for a visit, with his foster brothers in tow, and wished to see Legolas and Gimli as well. Thranduil had given his consent and Legolas delighted in the surprise he gave the Dwarves of Erebor when he showed up on their doorstep to tell Gimli. They rode once more on Arod, Gimli noticing that Legolas seemed more refreshed than the ride north. They rode fast, Arod not needing rest as he followed the Elven trails. Rivendell was within sight long before nightfall and Legolas could feel a sense of dread at facing the twins. No doubt they told Aragorn already. Thranduil had sent a message ahead to tell Elrond of Legolas' troubling dreams. The young Prince of Mirkwood and Ithilien knew that the message had been well received when they were met by Elrond himself. Aragorn stood to his left and his sons to his right. Legolas couldn't bring himself to meet the twins' eyes, gateful for Elrond ushering him off to discuss his visions. ***** "So it started with one of the Kinslaying?" Legolas nodded in his seat. He had told his host everything, including the confrontation with the twins. Elrond stood from his seat and paced, "You know that Glorfindel was reborn correct?" Another mute nod was his answer. "Perhaps it is the same with you young prince. These may be memories of a life before your own. And by the way you tell it, I assume that if this Vanyar was not your mate, than he was close to it." "But Glorfindel has memories of his past. I know only Mirkwood as mine." Elrond thought, "Glorfindel also had leave from the Valar because he is of the Noldor. You are Sindarin, so chances are you were simply reborn. If that is the case." "If it is not?" "Then this is a mystery indeed." Legolas sighed, it was the best solution so far. He stood gracefully from his wooden seat. "Go see the others, Aragorn said he had a proposition for you. I will see if I can find any records of this 'Celebelei' that you spoke of." Legolas nodded, "Thank you Lord Elrond." ************************************************************ CHAPTER 3 Aragorn smiled in greeting as Legolas joined him and Gimli in the Hall of Fire. They spoke amiably for a time before Aragorn told of his 'proposition.' "There have been rumours of a growing host of orcs in the north," the King of Men told the two. "I would that you came with me to investigate. I can think of no other that I would trust more." Legolas and Gimli nodded together. "Of course Aragorn." The Man smiled, "Elladan and Elrohir will come with us as well. If you are ready, we would leave tomorrow at dawn." Gimli nodded readily, "We shall be ready. Where do we go exactly?" "An old path I once followed. It is a two day travel to the Ettenmoors where the rumours began." The two agreed and the trio spoke once more in planning. *********** Glorfindel found Elrond in his study, yet another small pile of books scattered and opened at various pages. The Lord of the Last Homely House looked up at his friend's amused expression. "Ai, Glorfindel. I have a question for you." Gorfindel raised an eyebrow, "So it seems. I told you all those book would be useless one of these days." Elrond smiled, "Have you heard of a Vanyar Elf by the name of Celebelei?" Glorfindel nodded, "Yes. That was his Telerin name though. How did you know of him?" Elrond sighed, "It seems young Legolas has been having disturbing dreams. Of the time before Men. He saw his own death at the hands of the Noldor in the Kinslaying." "Is he reborn?" "I don't know. It seems plausible. This Celebelei Elf was in his dreams, his mate I think. He may be the answer to this." Glorfindel nodded, "Celebelei had a Teleri mate. His name was lost after the destruction of their records in the fires. Celebelei himself vanished." "You said that the name was Telerin, what others did he have?" Glorfindel thought for a minute, "Silmemaur I think. Ilsamaur perhaps. He was always named the Silver Dream." Elrond nodded, "I have heard nothing of those names at any time." Glorfindel shrugged, "As I said, he vanished. He was not of the First, but second generation perhaps. Galadriel's elder as well." Elrond sighed, "Where ever this may lead, I pray that Legolas can find peace." ************************ Elrond had seen the group off early that morning, taking note of Legolas and the twins barely looking at each other, speaking only when it was necessary. Gimli rode with Legolas as always, cursing the Elf when Arod sped ahead so Legolas to look for danger. Aragorn rode a white steed, fitting for the King of Gondor. The twins had their usual brown steeds, the two fastest in Rivendell. The day of riding was punctuated with short stops to rest the horses and let their riders stretch. Legolas took a few small "Elf-naps" as Gimli called them while riding, much to the Dwarf's discomfort. It was one thing to have to ride, but to have Legolas sleeping while doing so was unnerving. They stopped as the sun set, Legolas taking first watch. Little was said amongst them. The twins went about normal camp duties, teasing Aragorn that he was getting soft. Aragorn shook his head and swatted his foster brothers. Gimli muttered something more about Elves being in too high of spirits. Legolas smiled but kept quiet, running his dreams through his mind, more had come to him during the course of the day. The night was passed without incident. Legolas woke while Elladan was on watch, as the sun rose the dark-haired Elf was taking out rations for breakfast. "Legolas, are you well?" Legolas nodded, "I am." Elladan raised an eyebrow, "You are not. Even you can't stay so quiet for so long. What troubles you?" Legolas sighed and sat next to his one-time lover, "I just don't know how to act anymore Elladan. The dreams...they still come and I am no closer to finding their meaning than that I may be reborn as Glorfindel had been." Elladan smiled softly and put a hand on Legolas' shoulder, "You will figure it out. You may be an immature little Elfling at times, but you will find your way." Legolas smiled, "How can I thank you Elladan." The other smiled slyly, "I can think of...ways." He kissed Legolas' cheek, "Though I think it may be better to leave that until you've figured out what you want." Legolas shook his head, "And you just said that I was the immature one?" The others woke soon after. Aragorn had them on the road again before mid-morning. Just before their stop for noon, Legolas pulled into step with Aragorn. "What are we looking for exactly?" Aragorn smiled, "To be completely honest, I don't know yet. The rumours are of orcs, once I can see if they are indeed true, I'll know where the threat is coming from." Gimli rolled his eyes, "That is very reassuring Aragorn. Perhaps next time you should just give us a general location too." Aragorn laughed, "I did." Legolas felt the low rumble of Gimli's growl and muttered curses and laughed. The twins were talking amongst themselves a little behind the three from the Fellowship. Legolas looked back and saw Elladan trying to convince Elrohir of something and felt guilty that he had created the rift between the brothers. "Legolas," Aragorn said from a few yards ahead. "I have use for your eyes my friend." Legolas closed the short distance and looked to where the Man was pointing. They were within sight of the Ettenmoors. The mountains, while smaller than the long range to their right, were impressive and dark. Aragorn pointed to the range, slightly to the left. The Elf was about to say that he saw nothing when a small number of dark figures moved. He leaned forwards a bit, trying to get a better look. The flash of metal in the high sun confirmed the Elf's thought. He turned to Aragorn, "They are orcs. Though what kind or how many I know not. They are too far for even my eyes." Aragorn nodded and signaled the twins closer, "There is a troop of orcs ahead. Should we continue now we may need to fight them." Elrohir narrowed his eyes, "How is it that they are in sunlight?" "The orcs and uruk of Isengard?" Elladan suggested. Aragorn nodded his agreement. "That puts them a long way from their home," Gimli said. Legolas perked up at the sound of clumsy footsteps, the twins did the same. They had stopped along the path made by the Dunedain that cut through a small grove of trees. They were close to the Misty Mountains now, the sheer faces marred by numerous caves. Legolas fancied that he could see paths, old and worn leading to a few. "Enemies are near Aragorn. An ambush?" Aragorn nodded and drew Anduril, Legolas had his Lothlorien bow drawn and a white-tailed arrow notched. The twins drew their swords and Gimli withdrew prepared to either jump from Arod or hold on depending on the decision. A dark shadow moved to their right and Legolas fired his arrow, replacing it quickly. As the first creatures came from the large rock piles and trees, the group could see that they were neither orc nor uruk. They seemed to be another mix of both. Tall and looming as the uruk had been, but they fought in a hunched manner as the orcs of Mordor did. Gimli jumped from Arod, drawing his axe as he landed on an approaching enemy, slicing quickly. The twins remained seated on their mounts, slashing down furiously as they were quickly surrounded. Aragorn joined Gimli on the ground, Anduril flashing in the fury of a long missed battle. Legolas fired a continuous stream of arrows into the black mass of evil as Arod was forced to dance further from the others. He heard Elladan and Gimli both call his name before feeling a burning in his chest, just above his heart. His vision was fading as he fell from Arod, but Legolas could have sworn that he saw a head of silver catch him. *********************************************************** Chapter 4 Gimli forced his way to where he saw his Elven friend fall, only to be faced with nothing. Arod pranced uneasily, afraid of the fight dying down but wanting to find his rider. Aragorn and the twins were quick to join the Dwarf. The two son's of Elrond were on foot now. There were corpses of the fell creatures strewn across the path. Many fallen by Legolas' arrows though Elladan pulled another arrow that was different from one of the bodies. Gimli looked around worriedly, "Was he taken? Did any get away?" Elladan came up with the other arrow, "I do not think he was taken by these...beasts. This arrow is of Elven make." Aragorn crouched and touched the ground, his hand came away with the clear red blood of an Elf. The Man sniffed it before grimacing, "I think our fair friend may have been struck with a poison dart." The Dwarf ground his teeth, "We must find him, treat him before he grows too weak." "Finding is the problem," Elrohir said coolly. "If he was taken by another Elf, there would be no track. Who this other is and why take Legolas is a pressing matter." Aragorn stood after examining the blood stained ground, "It's faint, but there are footprints. Though only their shadow in the damp grass is seen." Elladan tossed the arrow down, "Can you tell where they go Estel?" "To the mountains I think. It can only be a guess." Gimli fingered his axe, "Well, a guess is better than not knowing. Let us be off, before we lose Legolas." ************************ Legolas gasped as he woke, his throat dry and, while dulled considerably, his chest on fire. A firm hand supported him in sitting up and a flask of water was placed against his lips. Legolas drank, closing his eyes as the cool liquid aided in banishing the pain further. "Drink slowly young one." Legolas felt that he recognized the voice. It was soft in it's command and Legolas opened his eyes to see who was speaking. The hand left his back and all he could see of his rescuer was a broad back and long silver-white hair. "Esta sinome." *Rest here.* The blonde watched as the figure left the room and fell back. The arrow had been poisoned, he could tell that, had the other healed him? What of the others? Who was the other? And where the hell was he? Legolas fell into a light sleep, his eyes closed as it deepened into a healing trance. ****** The silver-haired Elf watched from the shadows until he saw the much younger Elf fall into a healing sleep. The image seemed the same as it had been millennia ago, before the sun's rising and the coming of Men. Celebelei fingered the talisman hanging before his heart, his Little Star had truly been reborn, his dreams were right. "Celebelei?" a voice asked softly from the doorway. The tall Vanyar turned to see Linnearon peeking in. Linnearon was a young Sylvan, born in the late Second Age, and found by Celebelei. Celebelei left the room to join the younger Elf in the corridor of stone with one last look at the sleeping figure. "What is it you wish Linnearon?" "Is the young one well? You look troubled and have missed the meal." Celebelei smiled, "I am well. As is our guest. The poison is gone from him now." Linnearon nodded, "Would you like anything?" "Some food, please. Have Gweinmeril and Anadriewen take post for now. Then get some rest yourself." Linnearon nodded, smiling, "Of course my Lord." Celebelei smiled and returned to the bedroom. The old Dwarvish halls had provided a home for him and those that had joined him after the Noldor's attack. The Vanyar had made sure to keep much of the old stone work open to prevent his wards from feeling closed in. Rooms had been built, their borders defended, and after nearly two millennia of peaceful dwelling, the handful of Elves he was with had opted to name Celebelei their Lord. The second generation Elf took the title gratefully. Marsarna was a safe haven for any traveler, with a few exceptions of course. None of the Dunedain had knowledge of the stronghold, nor any of the Elvish kingdoms. It was a well-kept secret, and Celebelei intended it to remain as such. There was safety in secrecy. Celebelei took a seat in one of the two chairs by the small semi-circle table. He smiled as he looked over the sleeping figure. It had been countless centuries since he lay eyes on the sculpted beauty of his Little Star. The last time had been in mourning, deep wound cutting through the young one's ribs and piercing his heart. The memory was sobering and Celebelei reminded himself that while this young Elf may have his love's form and spirit, the memories may not be there. The Vanyar didn't want to think of that possibility now, all he had to do was make sure the young one was healthy. There was a knock on the door and Linnearon came in balancing a tray with two plates and two vials of a drink. Celebelei took the tray from the Sylvan and ushered him out with the reminder of taking some rest. Settling back in his seat, he noticed the wounded Elf stirring. He placed the tray on the nightstand and moved his chair next to the bed. It was time to see how and exactly who his guest was. ******************** The horses were left to wander the fields. Arod would return if called for by Legolas, as would the twins' horses. Aragorn's own seemed to follow Arod so the Man was not worried about their mounts. They walked the path without hindrance. Whatever those creatures had been exactly were gone from their views, but they kept their weapons at the ready. "Estel," Elladan drew his attention as they stopped on the road to check for signs of their fallen friend. "There are two Elf-maidens among the rocks." Aragorn looked around, spotting a flash of soft white he raised his hands and took a few steps towards where he saw the colour. "Hauta." *Stop.* Aragorn noted the speech was Quenyan, unusual for Elves now. He obeyed the command, "Amin lava." *I yield.* The two revealed themselves, bows drawn taught. Maidens as Elladan had said. One with long brown hair, the other with slightly shorter blonde. Neither wore the robes that they might have donned in any of the other Elven realms, instead they had rough made tunics and leggings and cloaks. "We mean no harm," Aragorn said calmly as he could with an arrow pointed at him. He hoped they understood the Common Tongue. The one with brown hair stepped forward, "Sheath your weapons and tell us why you are here." Aragorn nodded to the others and replaced Anduril at his side. He heard the movement of the others. "We are looking for a friend that was wounded, he was taken by an Elf." The two guards looked at each other, the brunette turned back to the travelers, "We know of whom you speak. The young one is safe." Gimli stepped forward, "Where is he?" Both Elves titled their heads in curiosity, Aragorn mentally yelled at Gimli for possibly making things worse. Finally the brunette smiled, "You may see him in time. You will need to meet with our Lord first though. I am Anadriewen. This is Gweinmeril. Come with me." Anadriewen sent the other ahead to tell of the situation while she began to lead the careful trek up the mountain path. "I wasn't aware there were Elves here," Aragorn commented. "You aren't supposed to," Anadriewen said simply. "This is Marsarna. As long as you make no threat, you are welcome." She looked over the twins warily, "Though those with Noldor blood will be watched carefully." Elrohir raised an eyebrow, "And why is that." "It is difficult to forget a massacre if you survived it. We may use the speech of the Noldor, but there is little love had." Elladan was shocked, "You were at that-" Anadriewen silenced him, "Yes I was. As was the Lord whom you will see, and several others residing here. I suggest you mind your manners." They reached the gates to Marsarna. *********************************************************** Chapter 5 Legolas' first thought that he felt a lot better, his second that he was being watched, his third was that they were very familiar silver eyes. "Do you feel better young one?" Legolas nodded and sat up, "Yes. Thank you." The silver Elf felt his forehead and withdrew his hand, pleased, "The poison of the arrow has been cured. What are you called?" "Legolas." "I am Celebelei." Legolas started, he had assumed it, but actually hearing it was a different matter. Celebelei picked up one of the plates and handed it to Legolas. "You must recover the strength you've lost," he hesitated. "I would speak to you Legolas, of dreams and the past." Legolas nodded, he had wanted to figure out what these visions were, if the other was having them, then it couldn't be his fault. The theory was worth a try, "Were you the one making them?" Celebelei shook his head, "No. But I have been having them." "What are they then?" "Memories for me. I assume that we've been having the same ones of the time before the Second Kindred." Legolas nodded, "If they're memories, why do I have them?" "You've been reborn from that time Legolas." "And you?" Celebelei met Legolas' gaze, "I have not died." A question came into Legolas' mind, "Who am I then?" The Vanyar Elf seemed to grow sad, "You are Legolas from the Third Age. Though in the past, you were called Laiqualasse. Beloved of the Vanyar, and the Green Leaf of the Teleri." Legolas smiled wryly, Green Leaf, his name had not changed. Celebelei continued. "You were called Legolas by the Teleri." Legolas nodded as the information ran through his mind, "So what happened? Why am I having these dreams now?" "What happened is as you saw it," Celebelei said softly. "I know not why we share these visions now. It may be because you are nearing the age you were at your death, if you haven't reached it already." Legolas sighed, now that he knew what the dreams were, he wanted to know how they started. Celebelei's explanation seemed plausible, at least until more could be found. He decided to concentrate on the practical questions. "Where am I?" Celebelei sat back, "Marsarnas. My realm in the abandoned Dwarven halls. You are safe, as are all who are here." Legolas started, "My friends, they-" "Will be here in time," Celebelei interrupted. "Do not worry for them." They ate the meal that had been brought in an uncomfortable silence. Legolas was once more the one to break it. "What happened to me?" "What?" The younger Elf met the elder's eyes, "In the dreams, what happened to me?" Celebelei looked away, Legolas could see the grief as clearly as the Vanyar himself, "You were killed. By the hands of the Noldor. Before that, you were a strong warrior and a kind soul." "...And what was between us?" "Lovers. To be bonded." Legolas had already guessed as much, but again, to hear it was different. He could feel something in the back of his mind, telling him to remember. Both looked at the door at a light knock. "Enter," Celebelei said, putting his now empty plate aside. A blonde she-Elf entered, looking over Legolas before turning to Celebelei. "You have other guests My Lord. They come with Anadriewen." Celebelei nodded and stood, "Thank you Gweinmeril." Legolas made to get up, the Vanyar stopped him with a firm hand on his chest, "You need rest Legolas. I will bring your friends here to see you." Legolas nodded and lay back. Celebelei left the part that he didn't want Legolas to leave soon unsaid. He made his way to the cavernous Great Hall. *************************** Anadriewen told the group about the origin of their stronghold. Aragorn was surprise at the praise she had for the Dwarven craftsmanship, Gimli was immensely pleased. The hall they had been led to was more of a cavern than anything else. Lit by any number of torches, it was open and surprisingly airy. It reminded the group of Elrond's Entrance Hall, several doors dotted the walls at their level, balconies and other paths higher up. At the end of the hall were two staircases, their railings lined with a faintly glowing crystal. Elladan gasped when he looked up, drawing the attention of the others. The ceiling was dotted with similar crystals, all in the patterns of the stars. There had to be at least a hundred of the crystals, all in various sizes. The faint glow of Elves wandering would appear on the balconies from time to time, or through doorways as some passed by. Aragorn could see that it was indeed Dwarven craft, but the Elven decoration had made it's way into it over time. A few murals or tapestries hung between doors, an intricate painting of the Valar decorated the space between the stairs. The twins marveled at the detail, each of the Valar, save one had been painted. The careful detail on Ulmo displayed that these Elves, at least some of them, were descended of the sea-faring Teleri. A tall, delicately beautiful Elf stood beneath the mural, dressed in robes the colour of his hair. The beauty of the Vanyar was legendary, and this Elf was no exception. He had the same air as Elrond, wise and royal, but not arrogant. His eyes mirrored the light of the crystals, and Aragorn was surprised to see that they were the colour of mithril, reflecting the light as a silver mirror. Anadriewen nodded in greeting and made her way through one of the doors. "You are welcome here travelers. I am Celebelei, Lord of Marsarna." Aragorn nodded, "Thank you. I am Aragorn, King Elessar of Gondor and the realms of Men. This is Gimli the Dwarf, Lord of the Glittering Caves and Moria. The twin sons of Elrond, Lord of Imladris, Elladan and Elrohir." Celebelei nodded in greeting, "I know you wish to see the young one, Legolas." Aragorn stepped forward, "Is he well? Has he been harmed?" "He had been struck by a poisoned arrow. He is healing without difficulty now." "Let us see him then, and judge for ourselves if he is well," Gimli said, regarding the Elf suspiciously. The twins moved to stand behind the Dwarf in support, their faces grim. "You will see him after you tell me why you have journeyed this far." "We searched for proof of rumours a new evil here," Aragorn stated. "We found what we came here for, and wish to collect out friend and return home without incident." Celebelei noticed the group fingering their weapons and smiled, "If there is incident, it shall not be started by those residing here. You have no need of your weapons here, though you may keep them if you wish." "We shall keep them," Aragorn said firmly and Celebelei nodded. He half turned to the stairs. "Come with me then." **************** Legolas rested in a sitting position against the wall. He played the conversation with Celebelei through his mind. He could see the sorrow in the other's eyes, the relief, and the same venerable air that all Elvenlords seemed to possess. He found it strange, a part of him was telling him that just being in the other's presence was right, it was his place. Another reminded him of his duties in Ithilien and Greenwood, reminding him of his life in the forests, reminding him of the twins. The blonde groaned, he didn't know what to do. At the door opening he perked up, Celebelei stood there with the others. Gimli immediately rushed over to Legolas and took him in a crushing hug. "Gimli, I'm flattered that you worried, but must I remind you that I need to breathe?" Legolas said, smiling at his friend's sheepish look. "Well, I would have no need to worry if you watched your back you silly Elf. I should take my axe to you for scaring me," Gimli huffed. Legolas laughed. "I am sorry Gimli, but you can see I am well," Legolas looked to Celebelei who stood near the door. "Thanks to Lord Celebelei." Aragorn looked Legolas over, "Then I'm glad. Though we may need to leave quickly, before nightfall." Celebelei stepped up, "You should stay here tonight. Legolas has strength to recover still, and I may have information for you on the matter for which you traveled so far." All eyes turned to Aragorn, the Man nodded, accepting the reason. Celebelei had a few of the Elves take them to other rooms while Aragorn agreed (much to Legolas' frustration) that Legolas needed to rest. Celebelei moved to sit on the edge of the bed, "Do you feel well?" Legolas nodded, "It is heartening to see them. Though I was surprised that you let Gimli through without problem." "Dwarves built these halls, your friend is welcome here." Legolas smiled and Celebelei stood, "Rest." ********************* Celebelei followed the group a few steps behind. His mind wandered back to Legolas. The Noldor twins had very familiar looks in their eyes when they saw the young blonde. He narrowed his eyes, he could understand if Legolas had found another lover, but Noldor? He pushed the thought aside and knocked on the door the Man was behind. It was time to establish exactly why the group was here and what could be done to help them on their way. *********************************************************** Chapter 6 Aragorn looked around the room he had been given. It was much like Legolas'. Minimal decoration, a simple guest room. There were no windows and Aragorn wondered how Legolas was doing. He looked up at the knock on the door, opening it to see Celebelei standing there. "What is it?" the Man asked. "I want you to explain what you were looking for in coming here," Celebelei said simply. He moved to one side and invited Aragorn to walk with him. Aragorn took the invitation and explained the rumours he had heard in Gondor. After the fall of Mordor, few orcs had been seen, to hear rumours of an army amassing in the north was disturbing. The Vanyar Elf nodded as he was told of their journey. "These creatures have been growing in numbers for little over six months now," Celebelei explained. "What they want, or who they serve is yet undiscovered." "Can't you send someone out to find out that information?" The Elf raised a skeptical brow, "Would you endanger your people like that? Not just the one sent out, but should they be followed...Our number is small King of Men. I would not sacrifice the lives of those I am responsible for." Aragorn sighed but nodded, "I understand. But surely you must know something." "Little at best." Aragorn looked around, he was getting frustrated. He stopped suddenly. They were on one of the balconies overlooking the Great Hall. There were a few Elves going about tasks, their faint glow adding to the seemingly ethereal beauty enhanced by the crystals. "How is it that you could make something like this?" Aragorn asked in awe, taking a good look at the mural of the Valar. "With a great deal of time and care," Celebelei replied. "We have been here for just over two ages." "Why is it that there was no knowledge of you then?" Celebelei shrugged nonchalantly, "I wished it so. There had been much pain in the lives of those that live here Aragorn. It is my choice to give them peace." "They could have gone to Elrond, Galadriel, or Legolas' father Thranduil." "They didn't though," Celebelei said softly. "They chose to come here. They are free to leave if they wish, but as long as they stay, I will do what I can to protect these borders." Aragorn looked the Vanyar Elf over, "You aren't the only one to have gone through pain and trial. Elrond-" "Never had to watch his heart die at the hands of those that were supposed to be friends," the words were sharp. "Speak not of things you do not know." Aragorn stayed silent, watching the small amount of activity below. Gimli appeared from one of the doorways, admiring the stonework. Elladan and Elrohir were close behind the Dwarf. "Quite the place you have here," Gimli commented as he nodded his approval. Celebelei smiled. "I suppose you must be hungry," The Vanyar said. "It grows late, do you wish to join us for dinner?" "What of Legolas?" Elladan asked as the others nodded. "I will send someone to see if he wishes to join us." Pacified, Elladan nodded. The Vanyar and the elder of the twins locked eyes coldly and each saw the threats behind the other pair. Celebelei's attention was drawn by the sound of his name. Excusing himself, he turned swiftly to see what he was needed for. Elladan huffed, "I do not like him." Elrohir nodded his agreement. Aragorn looked from one to the other, "I do not see why. He has been nothing but polite, a little closed, but willing to help us." Gimli shook his head, so the twins hadn't told Aragorn about them. "King Elessar?" Aragorn turned to see a raven-haired Elf standing in one of the doorways. "I am Laurealasse, Lord Celebelei asked me to show you the way to the Dining Hall." "Of course," Aragorn said. The Elf smiled and led the way through the doorway he had appeared from. The group followed the Elf through a long corridor, the walls were interrupted by doors at regular intervals. It wasn't long before they reached the Dining Hall. It was another cavernous room, though slightly smaller than the Entrance Hall. Again, like the hallways and other rooms, torches lined the walls to provide the lighting and the group wondered if this was anything like it was before the first sunrise. Aragorn had the thought that the floor must have once been higher because the long tables had been cut from the original floor line. Flights of stairs, about six steps, came down into the room from three doors. There was a dais with another long table running horizontal of the ones lower than it. Plates and covered dishes of food were already being set out. A few Elves starting to find places to sit while others were coming in pairs or small groups. Aragorn and Gimlli smiled as they saw two Elf-children being scolded as they sneaked something off a tray with pastries. The Elf scolding them was smiling though, so they two guests figured that it was a classic "don't ruin your appetite" lecture. Laurealasse led the group to the table on the dais, telling them where Celebelei and Legolas were intended to sit but leaving them to find their own places. ******************** Legolas woke from his light rest to the door of his given room. "Come in," he said. The door opened to reveal Celebelei. "Do you wish to join the meal?" The Vanyar asked softly. Legolas nodded, while resting, yet more dreams had come to him. Celebelei smiled and offered his hand to the now- sitting Legolas. The younger Elf accepted the offer. "Are you troubled?" Celebelei asked as they stepped into the hallway. "Why do I have no memory of my last life?" Legolas said after a few seconds of hesitation. "I do not know," the silver-haired Elf sighed. "Though I do know ways to recover lost memories. If you wish, I will help you with them later." Legolas nodded and Celebelei looked at him, "Do you wish to remember?" "I-I'm not sure right now. I do...but I don't at the same time." The elder Elf nodded, "Legolas, I will not lie. I have never stopped loving you. But whatever you wish, whether it includes me or not, is entirely up to you. I will support your choices." Legolas could see the sincerity in the Vanyar's eyes. He thought back to what he had said to the twins that had created the riff between them. 'I cannot explain it, this other...it feels as though he holds my heart. I am sorry, but I must find who he is. I cannot be with you, forgive me.' This was what he had been looking for, the Elf that had haunted his visions with kindness and love. The Elf that felt so right just to be around. Again, his thoughts fell on the twins. Elladan at least still cared for him, though Elrohir had rarely spoken to him now. He wondered what it would be like to have two sets of memories. He knew the pain of two loves, could he handle the memory of the first? He considered Celebelei's words, unconditional love was offered, and he could return it. But guilt was there from the rift with Elrond's sons. Legolas felt lost, he had no idea what to do. Celebelei saw the war within Legolas' eyes and remained quiet. He wouldn't be the cause of pain to the young Elf, regardless of how much he wanted him. The Dining Hall was nearly full by the time the pair arrived. Celebelei led Legolas to his seat. Once both had sat, without formalities that seemed customary in the other Elven kingdoms, the meal began. The room was filled with the friendly conversation amongst the Marsarnas Elves, seeming to ignore the visitors. While the conversations of the Elves at the stone tables hummed softly, the table on the dais was strangely silent. *********************************************************** CHAPTER 7 The meal was passed in the friendly hum of conversation among the Elves. Gimli had goaded Legolas into their usual banter, just to lighten the tension at the table. Aragorn watched the Elves carefully, surprised at the small differences between the customs in Marsarnas to the ones in Rivendell, Mirkwood, and Lothlorien. The twins and Celebelei cast glaring glances at each other almost constantly over the course of the meal. As things started to finish up, some of the Elves called for the voice of Ningal. A chestnut-haired Elf moved to sit on the edge of one of the tables and began a song of the Valar. "Do you wish to go somewhere quieter to talk?" Celebelei asked his guests. The others nodded and Celebelei stood. He pulled Legolas' chair out and smiled at the shy look he received in return. The Vanyar Elf ignored the pointed glare he got from both twins. After another short trip down a winding corridor and through the maze of tunnels, Celebelei took them to a room roughly twice the size of the bedrooms they had been given. There was an oaken desk and a few bookcases. Just from the covers of some, and lack thereof of others, the group could tell that whatever information was on those shelves, Elrond might just kill for. There were several chairs and Celebelei motioned for them to sit while he leaned against the desk. "I may not know who these orcs serve, but I do know of several strange happenings. Though a group as you are now, you could not be able to be of much use," Celebelei said once all were comfortable. Elrohir glowered, "Then we will return home and gather our forces to investigate." Aragorn thought for a moment, "Anything that can create creatures such as we fought is not to be taken lightly. It may take too long to gather our own forces and return. The best idea now would be return to speak with Elrond and Celeborn, decide what to do with their council." "But they do not even know of what is happening," Legolas said. All eyes turned to him. "We do not truly know ourselves. The only one in this room that does know anything on this matter is Celebelei." "What do you suggest Legolas?" Celebelei asked. Elladan's expression matched his brother's, "Perhaps he could just tell us what is needed and we may relay the message." Legolas shook his head and looked at the Vanyar Elf, "If you could come back with us, you could tell what you know. Meet the leaders of the other Elven kingdoms." Aragorn nodded, "If an alliance could be made between lords, we would all be the stronger for it." The twins nodded reluctantly, they couldn't argue with the logic. "Well, whatever the Elves of Mirkwood and Ithilien do, they will be sure to have the support of Erebor and Moria," Gimli said proudly. Legolas smiled to his friend in gratitude. Celebelei thought for a moment, he could put Anadriewen and Linnearon in charge, his two advisors were well respected. He was loathe to leave the people he had vowed to protect, but one look in Legolas' pleading eyes made up his mind. "I will go." *********************************************************** The council between Celebelei, Legolas, Aragorn, Gimli, and the twins lasted a little longer while plans for departure were made. They agreed (the twins reluctantly) to leave the next morning, that would give Celebelei a chance to hand over leadership to someone. As well as let the others get some rest. The Vanyar walked with Legolas back through the labyrinth that was Marsarnas. The Sindarin Elf took notice of the glimpses of rooms through open doorways. Studies, lounges, and a library at least three times the size of his father's could be seen. Legolas wished he had more time to look through what texts Celebelei had. Celebelei smiled as he saw Legolas' look when they passed the library, "Do you want to take a different route to your room?" "What?" Celebelei led Legolas to a doorway. He pushed it open with one hand and stood back, registering Legolas' reaction. He grinned at the younger Elf's look of wonder. It was the entrance to his library. The light weight door stayed open and Celebelei gently took Legolas' arm and led him into it. "What is this?" "A library," the silver-haired Elf said, still smiling. "I know that we can't carry much, but take something. Whatever you want is yours." Legolas smiled, "Really?" Celebelei nodded and gave a small push, "Go, look, take something." The blonde spent at least fifteen minutes browsing the rows of shelves, stopping every once in a while to examine the writing. Celebelei watched, smiling. Most of the books were in ancient Elvish, translations had been made as side notes when they were transcribed from the original. Celebelei walked over to Legolas when the younger had stopped, looking through a thick volume. "What have you found?" Legolas handed the book over, "Songs, and poems." The silver-haired Elf nodded, recognizing the text, "Stories of the Vanyar. We're particularly fond of the verse, more so than most other Elves." He gave the book back, "Take it young one. It is yours." Legolas smiled widely, "Thank you." With a hand at the small of Legolas' back, Celebelei led him from the room and down another hallway. He almost laughed as Legolas looked through the writings and walked at the same time. His distracted grace suggested that it must be a common practice with him. He thought back to when he had written a few of the songs in there after returning to Middle-Earth. Writing of his pain and confusion at returning under such circumstances, his wanderings were written there. He smiled at the thought of Legolas reading the song written in his memory. "Legolas," Celebelei said once they reached the younger's given room. "What of your memories?" Legolas stopped, "I wish to remember, but not now. When we have reached Imladris." Celebelei nodded, "As you wish." ********************* Dawn found the original group from Rivendell waiting at the gates to Marsarnas with their recovered horses. Celebelei was speaking with two Elves, one was Anadriewen and the other was one that had been introduced as Talyn. The Vanyar Elf had chosen those two and Linnearon to take his place while he was gone. A white horse had been brought for Celebelei and the group started on their way. Legolas' weapons had been returned to him before leaving and both Aragorn and Celebelei had checked him over. Gimli swore that if Legolas was in pain but not saying anything that he would take his axe to the Elf. His threat was met with a light laughter. It was noon at their first real stop. A few one minute stops had been made to rest the horses previously. Now they rested and ate a quick meal. Celebelei pointed out various things to Legolas, telling the younger Elf a few stories about different areas. In return, Legolas and Gimli told him of their adventure with the Ringbearer and their own homes. The twins were making a point of either ignoring Celebelei or snubbing him. Aragorn concerned himself with looking ahead to make sure the road was clear. They road through the night with only a few short stops. The twins rode ahead to tell their father of their coming approach and Celebelei. They rode fast, taking a rest when Rivendell was just in view. Legolas smiled and told the Vanyar about Rivendell. Aragorn smiled and offered his pieces to the different stories. Gimli told his bits as well, including meeting Legolas after the council. Celebelei laughed at most of the stories, pleased that Legolas had such good friends. Celebelei held back a little as he saw the dark-haired Elven-Lord that stood to meet them. Another golden-haired Elf stood with the twins slightly behind the lord. The Vanyar's eyes flashed in recognition of the golden Elf and he summoned the same confidence he had in his own realm. They dismounted and Legolas, Aragorn, and Gimli greeted the Half-Elf happily. The Noldor and the Vanyar locked eyes. "You must be Lord Celebelei," Elrond said finally. "I am hardly a lord as you may consider Master Elrond." Elrond nodded his approval at the response, "You are welcome here." Celebelei nodded his thanks and followed the Half-Elven lord into the houses. Glorfindel walked next to Celebelei. "It's been long," Glorfindel said softly enough for only the Vanyar's ears. Aragorn and Legolas walked next to Elrond and the twins with Gimli close behind. Celebelei nodded, "Millennia." Glorfindel nodded in return, "Where have you been?" "It will be explained later." They followed Elrond to the Hall of Fire. Celebelei looked around curiously. His first thought was how much lighter Rivendell was than Marsarnas, though it had fewer decorations. Incredibly more open than his mountain realm, Celebelei noted some of the architecture. He recognized how few things were different, and what was the same. A few of the designs might be able to be used in Marsarnas some day. Elrond focused on him directly, "So, it is my understanding that you may have some information." *********************************************************** Elrond dismissed the others. The twins followed Glorfindel as he ushered Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli out. "So you are really of the Vanyar?" Elrond ask as he looked the other Elf over. Celebelei narrowed his eyes, "I am. And you are Noldor, as well as considerably younger than I. Perhaps we should get to the point." Elrond tensed at the reply, "You are in my realm-" "And have information you need. This may be your realm, but I could have easily killed the Dwarf and Man, as well as your twins when they came looking for Legolas. Perhaps you should talk to them about showing manners to the lord of another realm." The two glowered at each other. The tension was almost physical and Elrond finally spoke, "What is this information then?" Celebelei smiled at his small victory, "There is a new darkness dwelling. New orcs have appeared, those that are can walk in sunlight and are stronger than those of the Dark Lands." "Who do they serve?" "I know not." Elrond sighed, "Then what do you suggest?" "Wait. Prepare for the worst. As I've been told, none of us have the combined strength to wage a war." Elrond nodded, "You've been correctly informed, though it would not fall to us Elves solely. Men have proven their strength before, they simply need our counsel." Celebelei nodded and Elrond looked him over. "I would ask you of your intentions towards the youngest Prince of Mirkwood." *********************************************************** Elrond was looking over the gardens from one of the many balconies. The visiting Vanyar Elf was sitting with Legolas, he couldn't hear their conversation from his distance. "What is it troubling you this time?" Glorfindel asked as he walked up after seeing to his duties. The Elven-lord narrowed his eyes at the sight below, "He is not telling us everything." Glorfindel shrugged, "You cannot expect him to tell us all he knows so soon in our meeting." "He seems to know you though," Elrond pointed out. "We met briefly during the First Age. He was wandering with a group of others, though I did not know that he had settled somewhere." Elrond sighed, "That is not the only thing that weighs on my mind. His interest in Legolas-" "Is the continuation of a past long before you my friend," Glorfindel said. "You've stated yourself that whatever brings Legolas peace must be found." Elrond raised an eyebrow, "I seem to be getting interrupted quite a bit as of late. Though I do understand you Glorfindel. I only worry for Legolas." Glorfindel nodded, "I know, but while you see Legolas as another son, it is Thranduil that the Vanyar must impress. Though Thranduil has ignored most of his son's doings." The two turned back to the gardens. ************** Celebelei frowned at the wince that crossed Legolas' face. The younger Elf's eyes were closed as long buried memories surfaced. Celebelei concentrated what powers he still had from Valinor on Legolas. His right hand rested on Legolas' forehead while his left squeezed the young Elf's hand in comfort. The silver-haired Elf wondered what was going through Legolas' mind. After a few minutes, Legolas' eyes opened and he almost collapsed. Celebelei caught the smaller Elf, making soothing noises until he felt Legolas' breathing return to normal. His arms supported Legolas, but were loose enough to pull away if he wanted to. "Are you alright?" Celebelei asked softly. Legolas nodded and leaned against the elder Elf. "It seems so weird....These memories, they're so...." Legolas sat up and looked into Celebelei's silver eyes he lifted a hand to touch one cheek. Wide, curious sapphire eyes met gentle, sorrowful silver ones. "I can remember the first time we met....On the docks of Aqualonde, while my kin celebrated in the square...I can remember it all..." Celebelei felt tears burn behind his eyes as his own memories surfaced. He took Legolas' hand in his own, "Laiqualasse..." ****************** "How can he be so....gyeh!" Elrohir paced the room he shared with Elladan, and at one time Legolas. He growled as he walked, having given up on trying to voice his frustration. Elladan watched from the bed, and amused expression playing on his features. "Is 'gyeh' a word now?" Elrohir glared at his brother and Elladan chuckled. Elrohir flopped on the bed, his head resting on his twin's stomach, "This isn't funny. I mean, has Legolas just forgotten what we had?" Elladan smiled and stroked Elrohir's hair. Calming his twin. "He hasn't," Elladan reassured. "Legolas has a lot to deal with." "And we don't?" Elrohir sighed and let his brother soothe him. His legs dangled off the side of the bed with his head resting on his twin's stomach. Elladan rested his back on the headboard. Both were in their informal robes of their house. Elladan sighed, "Legolas must deal with two lives Elrohir. He is both our Golden Prince and the Elf Celebelei knew. That Celebelei loved. What he must deal with, is far beyond whatever we have had to." Elrohir closed his eyes with a soft growl, "How could he just do this though? Just leave like that?" "He was hurt, and confused. Legolas didn't want to break it off with us, he thought it was for the best." "The best? For who? He breaks our hearts, and, if what you say is true, his own. All for something he is not sure of." Elladan leaned back, "I know, but how would you have acted?" "He could have at least talked to me." The sitting twin gave his brother a wry look, "How? You stormed off so suddenly, without hearing him out I might add. Then you ignore him for the better part of our journey. I think he feared that you no longer loved him." Elrohir closed his eyes, "I love him, too much. I do not like Celebelei." "Nor do I. But if Legolas is happy, I will not destroy that." The other nodded his agreement silently. ************* "So you had been told," Gimli said in astonishment. "Why did you say nothing?" Aragorn sighed, "I would not increase the tension. Legolas has grown restless on these shores, you have seen it as I have." The Dwarf nodded, puffing on his pipe as the former Ranger did the same with his own. "I have seen it, and it grieves me to know that our Elven friend finds no peace from the sea's call." "He will not leave as long as he has ties. His family will one day leave, as will his Elven friends." Gimli growled, "We are what keeps him." Aragorn nodded, "There is nothing we can do to release him from us. For an Elf, Legolas is too stubborn for his own good." Gimli snorted, "That is most definitely true. Silly Elves, I could never understand the damn things." Aragorn laughed, "Neither can I, and I grew up among them." ******************* Legolas had spent a good part of the day with Celebelei in the gardens, talking of newly recovered memories. Elrond had summoned them all to a meal together. Celeborn spoke with Celebelei readily, enjoying a different view on events that he had lived through as well. The meal passed in peace, the twins teased Glorfindel as always, talking happily. After everyone had finished, and Gimli mentioned the feasts of Moria in comparison, they started ask Celebelei questions. Legolas' book made an appearance and a song was asked for after the others were told of what it was. The Vanyar complied. "I've seen the moon And the first sunrise I'll leave it to the memories And kiss the wind goodbye For the Eldar I'm trapped inside this dream Of the Eldar's Song of doom I've tasted poison When I drank the wine of Fate But the fear was in my heart I realised too late The House of Spirits call For the Eldar I'm trapped inside this dream Of the Eldar's Song of doom High's the fee Soon my spirit will return Welcome dawn Your light will take me home I say farewell For the Eldar I'm trapped inside this dream Of the Eldar's Song of doom...." *********************************************************** *blinkblink* Well, that was weird, but I couldn't resist, the song is just too pretty. It's called "The Eldar" by Blind Guardian, from the Nighfall in Middle-earth album. *********************************************************** The tensions had been alleviated slightly by the next morning. Dawn found the Lord of Rivendell talking with Glorfindel, Erestor, Aragorn, and Celebelei in his study. "So what is to be done?" Aragorn asked. "Without proper knowledge of what we're facing, there is no way to know how much needs to be done to prepare." "Or what we're facing," Glorfindel stated calmly from his seat. Erestor frowned, "There are no Dark Lords left, only an ancient power from Valinor could create a new breed of orcs." "Saruman bred new creatures, and Radagast trained birds to do his will," Aragorn pointed out. "Both Maiar, the spirits of the Undying Lands taken a familiar form," Elrond said as he steepled his hands. "Any ancient power with a desire to control may achieve this feat." They looked to Celebelei. The Vanyar Elf raised an eyebrow, "There were few that came over with me during the War of Wrath. Those that had reside in Marsarnas, they are not capable of this." "Anyone powerful enough is capable," Erestor pointed out. "It's only the ambition that would be needed." "Another Istari perhaps?" Aragorn asked. "There is that last one that traveled far east." Elrond shook his head, "Doubtful, the Istari are helpers. At least until they become corrupt." "Not unlike the Noldor," Celebelei muttered. He shrugged at the glares he received. Glorfindel shook his head, "Unless these orcs bred on their own, it's safe to say that there's an outside influence." "Which brings us back to square one," Elrond looked at each in turn. "What that outside influence is." Aragorn stood, "I must return to Gondor soon, speak with my own advisors and at least assemble a defense against the orcs should they move further south." The Elves nodded. ***************** Legolas sat on the bench of his bay window, watching the sun make its way further up the sky. Thoughts of times long forgotten by most left in Middle-earth played in the forefront of his mind. "What are you thinking of?" The blonde turned to see Elladan in his doorway. The dark- haired Elf came up slowly and took a seat on the opposite side of the bench. "Things from long ago." Elladan nodded, "You got your memories back then?" Legolas nodded and turned back to the window, "It seems so weird. Knowing about two different times. Knowing the light of Valinor, but longing to see it for the first time too. Memories of a life next to the sea, but only having heard it once." Elladan sighed and let his eyes wander over Legolas' profile, "You know we still love you right?" Legolas closed his eyes, "Yes." The reply was laden with pain. Elladan turned to the window and they sat in silence for a few minutes. "We're going to Gondor, with Aragorn, to help set up a defense against whatever this thing is." The blonde nodded, "I spoke with Aragorn last night. I'm going back to my father's realm to find what help can be gathered there, then meeting you there." Elladan kept his silence while until his thought had to be voiced, "What of the Vanyar Elf?" "He's coming with me. Since Gimli is returning to Moria with Glorfindel to gather his own defense, Celebelei thought it best that none of us travel alone now." The dark-haired Elf nodded solemnly, he understood the logic, but would not admit it to Legolas now. *********************************************************** Mirkwood was quiet. The sounds of the normal forest birds calmed Legolas' swamped mind, the familiarities of home filling his senses to remind him of simpler times. The silver-haired Elf riding next to him brought his mind back to the present problem. The group had left in their own directions soon after Elrond's council. A messenger sent north had returned before the departure and warned them that the new orcs were seen closer to the Trollshaws. Aragorn and the twins would take the path through Moria with Gimli and Glorfindel, getting hold of Haldir in Ithilien once they've reached Gondor. Legolas studied Celebelei's profile as the other closed his eyes to enjoy the last warm breezes of the waning summer. He blushed and turned back to their path as he realized he had been staring. The feeling was familiar to him and a memory pushed it's way to the surface. ~~~**~~~Flashback - Alqualonde~~~**~~~ The light of Valinor illuminated the pearl-donned city of the Teleri. Celebelei walked with his new interest back into the square from the freshwater river. The Vanyar smiled at the still damp blonde Elf. "I hope you learned your lesson," he said while trying to keep a straight face. The smaller blonde grinned, "You mean not to challenge an older Noldo to a game of tag by the water...Or not to push you in without getting out of your reach?" Celebelei laughed and wrung out his own wet hair, "Either or. Though I must say the you are quite interesting to be around Laiqualasse. Or would you prefer that I called you your Telerin name?" "Legolas is fine." The blonde smiled and watched the silver Vanyar out of the corner of his eye. The light of the Trees reflected off of the damp hair, making the elder Elf look ethereal. He caught the other's eye and turned away, blushing furiously. The Vanyar nudged him off to another path that led to some of the gardens, nodding to a pair of passing she-Elf's. When they were alone Celebelei smiled and tilted Legolas' chin to look at him, "I saw that." Legolas blushed again and started when he felt the Vanyar's lips on his own. Sapphire eyes closed before the younger Elf forced them apart. Their eyes met again, Legolas' questioning the silver ones above him. "Let me love you Laiqualasse," Celebelei said softly. "Please my Little Star, let me love you." The blonde searched the other, all he found was love. He swallowed and nodded slowly, "Ilsamaur..." ~~~**~~~End Flashback~~~**~~~ Legolas blushed again, pushing the memory away from his waking mind and forced his sight on the narrow path. "Are you alright?" Celebelei rode up close to him. The same silver eyes from his memory now filled with curiosity. Legolas smiled, "Yes. We should be coming across some of the guards to my father's realm soon." The Vanyar nodded, "From what you've told me of him, it should be interesting to see his reaction." "He is an understanding father," Legolas said confidently. "I'm certain that he'll be pleased to meet you." Celebelei returned Legolas' smile, "Anyone that has helped create someone like you must be a kind soul." Legolas felt the blush returning. He heard a branch by him move too hard to be with the breeze and stopped Arod on the path. "Celebdae! I know you're there." A Sylvan Elf that looked similar to Celebelei, though his hair was closer to black and his eyes emerald, appeared on the thick branch above the path. Two other Sylvan Elves crouched at his side. Legolas recognized the twins Gem and Ni [A/N: Thanks Cheysuli ^.^] almost immediately. Gem was female and had sandy coloured hair, Ni was smaller and male, though identical in almost every aspect save gender. "Prince Legolas!" Celebdae jumped to the ground, smiling happily. "It is good to see you back so soon." Legolas smiled, "It won't be for as long as I'd like this time. Danger grows and I must speak with my father." The guard nodded, "He is speaking with his advisors now, though time is always made for you." The blonde saw his friend's eyes flick to Celebelei then back to his prince in askance. "This is Celebelei," Legolas said. They followed the trio of guards further down the path, Celebelei stayed close to Legolas. ****************** Thranduil looked up from the pile of papers on his study's desk as the door opened. He smiled as he saw Nimelen talking with Legolas and a silver-haired Elf as he led them both in. The King of Mirkwood stood and greeted his son. "Father, this is Celebelei," Legolas indicated the other. "Quite a bit has happened lately that I think you should know of." Thranduil nodded, "Of course, take a seat, and tell me." ******************************** "See," Legolas said smiling as he led his guest through the hallways of Amon Thranduil. "My father does like you." "I don't think holding a dagger to one's throat and saying 'harm my son and you'll find this blade in a very uncomfortable place' classifies as liking someone." Legolas snorted as Celebelei rubbed his collar, "You should have seen what he did to the twins. Though I don't think he's going to look at me the same way again." Celebelei smiled, "It's not every day that you find out that your son is older than you are. Or that you once poured berry juice over Oropher's hair." Legolas laughed, "I think he expected that one, though I'm glad he took it well." Thranduil had reacted better than either had really expected, though they hadn't known what to expect in the first place. Legolas had the feeling that Elrond may have sent a letter prior to their arrival. He had looked the Vanyar over carefully after being told the better part if their shared memories, including the anecdote involving his father. Now the two walked the halls with Legolas pointing out various things. Legolas smiled and led them down another hall, "The bedchambers are this way." "Legolas, I know that you remember everything, and I must know, do you..." Legolas blushed but pushed his lips to Celebelei's. "Desire you?" the younger asked after they broke apart. "Yes, I do." The Vanyar smiled kindly and put an arm around Legolas' waist. He pulled Legolas against him and their mouths met again in another kiss that left them both breathless. "Your room?" Celebelei asked between kisses. Legolas gripped his wrist and pulled him towards one of the doors. It opened without resistance and Celebelei looked around in appreciation of the spacious area before turning his full attention to Legolas. Capturing the smaller Elf in his arms once more, he gently lowered them both to the bed. "My Little Star," Celebelei said softly as he began kissing Legolas' neck. The blonde moaned and tilted his head to allow his lover better access. The Vanyar moved his hands to Legolas' shirt and smiled as he felt the other do the same. The garments where dropped unceremoniously to the floor and Celebelei mapped the flawless skin with mouth and hands. Legolas tangled his hands in the long silver hair. Celebelei let his hands wander to Legolas' leggings and looked into the half lidded sapphire eyes before smiling and returning. *********************************************************** Legolas buried himself closer to Celebelei, feeling warm and safe in the other's arms. The blankets were pulled over them, the warmth of their activities gone as their pulses settled to normal. Legolas rested his head on the broad chest of his lover, listening to the steady rhythm that was fast lulling him into sleep. A gentle hand in his hair helped the progress. Celebelei smiled, the long familiar feeling warming his heart. He closed his own eyes and fought the sense of darkness building in the back of his mind. Feeling Legolas' breathing even out, he looked down. "My Little Star, this seems too good to be true." ********************************** The two remained only a week in Thranduil's realm. Celebelei receiving several lectures from Legolas' brothers and father before being able to leave. Legolas had watched the lectures with an amused expression, smiling as he ushered his family away from his lover. The goodbyes were said quickly, Thranduil promising to visit Gondor as soon as he could. Nimelen, Gem and Ni, and as many warriors as Thranduil could spare would ride to Gondor with the two. Feinereg would gather all he could and meet them in Gondor, having received a message from Thranduil. His reply had included a promise to make sure if Celebelei was really good enough for his little brother. "Celebelei," the Vanyar turned to see Thranduil walking up, flanked by Nimelen and Rhiernil. Celebelei sighed and glanced at Legolas, the blonde just chuckled and went back to brushing Arod. "King Thranduil," Celebelei said with a slight dip of his head, he hadn't figured that Legolas' family was this protective of him. Thranduil smiled, "Relax, I think we've made our point concerning Legolas." Celebelei smiled, "Hurt and die, I've got that." The royal family chuckled. "That sounds right," Thranduil said. "But I want you to take care of yourself as well. If this develops into a war, your safety is just as important as Legolas'. Take care of you both." Celebelei nodded, "Of course." ************* The rode was traveled quickly, Gondor was within sight in only a few days. By the end of a week of travel, they were at Gondor's gates with Aragorn waiting for them. The King of Men wasted no time in telling them how his messengers found the orcs in huge numbers and closer to the south, by-passing Rivendell completely. They wanted Gondor. "So we're looking at a war?" Legolas asked as he leaned against the wall of Aragorn's study. Celebelei slipped an arm around his waist, ignoring the glares from the twins. Aragorn nodded, "Basically. We should be able to counter the orcs with few losses, though what is driving them here, we have yet to discover." "So let's get to it," Gimli said, fingering his axe. "Get our army set into place and prepare ourselves." "Gimli's right," Elrohir spoke up from his own seat. "We need to set our defense up as soon as possible." "We need to get our forces organized first Gimli," Aragorn stated. "We'll be ready in time, patrols have been doubled along the borders." The group nodded their agreement and went off to do their own duties. *********************************************************** "So what do you think of the White City?" Legolas asked as he walked with Celebelei. They had been in the city for two days but had little time be together, Aragorn had let them share the same room though. The twins had been drawing Legolas' attention away from Celebelei by having him help finish the plans for the battle. Gimli had taken notice what was happening and invited the twins to look over the Dwarven lines. Celebelei smiled and slipped an arm around Legolas' shoulders, "It's beautiful." Legolas grinned, "Aragorn will be pleased to hear that." The Vanyar smiled and pulled Legolas to their room. Their lips had met before they even closed the door. Legolas laughed when he saw the small tray of food on the stand by the bed, a flask of massage oil sat discreetly on the second stand on the other side of the bed. "You've had this planned!" Celebelei laughed, "I also asked Aragorn that we would not be disturbed." Legolas wrapped his arms around the Vanyar's neck and kissed him, submitting to the elder Elf's claim of dominance. Celebelei gave Legolas' lips a last lick before bringing them both to the bed. Celebelei settled himself above Legolas, the blonde smiled, "Should we eat first?" "I would rather savor you my Little Star," Celebelei said as he started nuzzling Legolas' neck. He alternated between licking and gentle biting. Legolas regained his wits while Celebelei stopped to remove his shirt. Quickly reversing their positions, Legolas now straddled his silver-haired lover. He smiled down at the elder Elf, "Well, I have not eaten since dawn, and it is now entering evening." Pining Celebelei's hands with one of his own, Legolas reached over to take a piece of honeyed bread. He grinned at the low growl/moan that came from below him and smeared the honey over Celebelei's bared skin. He looked into the silver eyes, darkened by lust and love, as he moved down to lick the substance slowly. "Ai, Legolas. You are still a tease," Celebelei moaned in despair as the blonde stopped. Legolas tsked, "You have teased me long enough last night, it is my turn." The Vanyar pushed Legolas to the bed and reversed their position once more. He took the bread from the Elven Prince and took an exaggerated bite, purposely savoring the sweetened bread as he held his smaller love down. Placing the remaining bread back on the tray, he leaned down for another kiss, transferring the half-chewed food to the other's mouth. "You are far sweeter to taste my love," Celebelei said softly as he started to work on removing their clothing. He ran eager hands over the familiar body beneath him. "My Little Star..." Legolas chuckled and pulled Celebelei closer until their faces were almost in contact, "You need to be more creative in your naming." Celebelei closed the small distance to claim his lover's lips once again. "You have the lights of the stars within you," he breathed against the now swollen lips, darting his tongue out to lick them again. "And you are mine. I love you." Legolas ground their hips together in response, bring a moan to both their mouths as they met one last time before Celebelei moved to nip at his collar. As Legolas' hands twined themselves in the silver tresses, Celebelei moved one hand to Legolas' opening. He massaged it gently and took the flask of oil. Sitting back, be poured some over his hand and went back to his ministrations. Reducing Legolas to a bundle of breathy moans and attempts to speed thing up. "You are far too impatient," Celebelei admonished lightly as he inserted two fingers into his lover. "And you are far too patient! Please Islamaur...ai, please." The elder Elf refused to give in just yet, continuing to stretch and prepare Legolas until the lithe body arched in ecstasy. He smiled, catching the younger Elf's lips again as he sheathed himself completely. He started their movement slowly, Legolas groaned partially in pleasure and partially in frustration at the slow movements. Getting the message, Celebelei sped his thrusts. Taking Legolas' erection into one hand and pumping in time. Neither lasted long under the new pace that had been set. Legolas came first, spilling into Celebelei's hand. The tightened muscles sent Celebelei over the edge as well, he collapsed on Legolas as he released inside his lover. "Mmmmm," Legolas moaned and stretched slightly under the weight of Celebelei. "Did your plan include a bath too?" The Vanyar smiled and pulled Legolas close to him as he turned to lie on his side, not pulling out of the smaller Elf yet. "Would that involve moving?" Legolas chuckled, "I think so." Celebelei shook his head, "Then no." The two laughed and nuzzled against each other. Every time Legolas tried to move, Celebelei would just pull him back. "Normally I would love to stay like this love," Legolas said after a few minutes. "But I really want a bath." Celebelei sighed and loosened his grip, "Can we play again in the bath?" Legolas smiled and kissed the Vanyar chastely, "I thought I was supposed to be the childish one." "You are, but I'm allowed to have my moments." The blonde disentangled himself and sat up. He stretched before standing and going to the adjoining bathing room. Gondor's plumbing was definitely something he needed to introduce to Mirkwood. He played around with the temperatures until he found something that he liked. He smiled and leaned back into the arms that circled him from behind. "May I join you?" "Always." *********************************************************** Legolas sat comfortably on Arod with Gimli near the front of their forces. The darkening shadow on the near horizon told of the coming battle. "Laiqualasse," Celebelei rode up and dismounted, helping Gimli off of Arod, they would not be riding into the war. "Are you alright?" Legolas smiled and nodded, "I'm fine. Though I have a bad feeling." Celebelei smiled and gave the blonde a deep kiss, "Take care Little Star." "You too." Aragorn stood ahead of the mass of warriors, "Ready!" ************************ The orcs came down on them quickly and furiously. Legolas fell into the same trance he always entered when fighting. The twins were nearby, their swords flashing furiously, just as Anduril now did in Aragorn's hand. Celebelei had been forced away from his friends and lover, as had Gimli. The Elves fought furiously, a practiced art since the exile from Valinor. The Men were just as furious, the ground stained crimson below their feet. Legolas abandoned his quiver for the white knives he had used in countless other battles. Gimli appeared at his side, the blade of his axe slicing through his opponents. Aragorn both commanded the army and fought along side them, looking every bit the warrior-king he had been destined to be. ************** The battle was beginning to die down, thousands of orcs lay still on the blood stained ground. Legolas gasped as he pulled an arrow from his right shoulder, the pain coursed through his arm and side but it was the last thought on his mind. A flash of silver was all he needed to be sent running from Gimli's concerned attentions and kneeling in the bloody mud. "Celebelei!" He reached out his left hand to caress the face of his lover, "Please, no..." "Laiqualasse...Are you...well?" Legolas nodded mutely, the Vanyar Elf's clear blood was pooling beneath him from a wound on his chest. "Good..." "Islamaur, please, you cannot die." The silver hair that could once reflect the light of Valinor was caked with both the black blood of their enemies and the pure blood of Elves. A trembling hand reached up to stroke the cheek of the younger Elf, "It will be alright. I will heal...and you can return to Mar-Marsarnas with me. We will visit with your father, then return to Va-Valinor..." A cough filled with blood ended his words. Legolas saw a clear drop of water land on Celebelei's cheek and wondered if it was beginning to rain. His vision blurred and burned. He felt his love's hand brush his cheek. "Don't cry Little Star. It will be alright." Legolas shook his head in denial, "No, please..." The once strong body below him went limp. Peaceful in death. "No....." Everything seemed like it was underwater, a voice told someone else to take him away from the field. A pair of strong arms circled him, pulling him to his feet without resistance. Nothing was registering in Legolas' mind. His eyes stayed focused on the closed eyes of Celebelei until darkness claimed him. His own blood spilling from his shoulder. *********************************************************** CHAPTER 8 Pain. There was a lot of pain. His right shoulder had been subdued to a dull throb, but his heart burned. Legolas lay on his side, silenced by stunned mourning. Three days had passed since the battle, since he found Celebelei. The haze had been broken only once while the twins had come in to see if they could get him to eat. No luck. They told him that Celebelei had been buried in the palace gardens, a place of honour. No response had come from Legolas. The blonde archer lay alone again, the tray of food brought by an extremely worried Gimli sat untouched by the bed. He knew that his friends must be terrified, but he just couldn't bring himself to do anything. He wished that he would just stop feeling. *************** "You have to do something Estel!" Elladan exclaimed. He saw his own worry mirrored in the dark eyes. "What can I do?" Aragorn demanded. "He refuses to do anything. I have healed his wounds, but I cannot heal his heart." Elrohir was at his brother's side, "He is dying, there must be something." Gimli stood straight from where he had been leaning against the wall, "He has lost his heart, there is nothing we can do. He will not find peace on these shores." The twins paled, the memory of their mother's departure and the pain that had it had brought played into their minds. They still loved Legolas, they had too many ties to Middle- earth still so they couldn't follow him. The twins stalked off, it was only when they were in their own rooms that they both collapsed. "I cannot believe this," Elladan said, wiping at his eyes. Tears were threatening to spill. "Can we do nothing? Legolas dies from his grief and there is nothing we can do." Elrohir lay out on the bed, trying to think, "We must speak with him. Try to comfort him, if nothing else, we must comfort him." "How? He does not respond to us, or to even Gimli." Elrohir sighed and pulled his brother into his arms, "We will think of something. We have to. I will not let our Golden Prince fall." ************ Gimli walked the halls after Aragorn had been called away to his duties again. He growled and cursed the frailty of Elven hearts, a Dwarf would not act this way. Be devastated at the loss of their love, of course, but not let themselves waste away. He found himself in front of Legolas' door, he sighed and pushed it open. He saw Legolas unmoved on the bed, the tray he had brought earlier was exactly as he had left it. "Legolas," he said softly as he approached the still figure. He gently rubbed the Elf's back, "Must you be so stubborn?" The Elf turned to face his friend, fresh tears sparkled behind his normally bright eyes. "Why must it hurt so?" Gimli was almost sure that the soft words hadn't been spoken, but he sat on the edge of the bed and gathered his closest friend into his arms. He felt Legolas tremble and tightened his hold. Feinereg had told him how young Legolas was considered to be among their people, but the strong and proud creature Gimli had always known had made it so that he could not believe it. The broken being he now held seemed very much the youth Feinereg had described. "You loved him Legolas," the Dwarf finally replied. "But you cannot just let yourself die." He felt the Elf bury himself closer to him, "It hurts so much Gimli. I cannot stand this pain." The Dwarf pulled away from Legolas and moved to hold his eyes with his own, "We all worry for you Legolas, the twins more than any. Your brother frets constantly, your father will come soon. I know it pains you my friend, but there are so many that love you as well. You must not fade into Elven grief, you are stronger than this Legolas." "I am sorry, I truly am Gimli. But I feel so empty, my heart threatens to tear." Gimli sighed and pulled the Elf back into a comforting embrace, "Be strong Legolas, please. You must be strong. What has happened to the strong archer that has saved my life countless times?" "He is gone, my arm will not heal as it should. I can no longer use my bow." Gimli closed his eyes, he had collected the arrowhead for Aragorn to make sure there was no poison on it and remembered the purposely cut edges. They formed a jagged triangle, designed to tear through flesh and shred muscle. It had proved it's purpose when it cut through Legolas' shoulder, shredding the muscles. Aragorn had said that it would cause pain long after the visible wound healed, though he had told nothing of the extent of damage. "You will heal," Gimli said firmly. "Both heart and body will heal. And you will hunt with me again, as we had in the past." Legolas nodded mutely. Gimli prayed to whoever of the Valar would listen that his words would hold true. ************* Aragorn turned away from his work, he couldn't concentrate on anything. One of his oldest friends was in pain and there was nothing he could do to reach through the barrier. "Gimli will reach him my love." The Man smiled up at Arwen, "I hope you are right. The twins suffer as well, torn between their love for him and the fear that he no longer loves them." Arwen smiled and smoothed back some of her husband's hair, "My brother's are strong, they will pass their strength to Legolas. He only needs to be broken from his grief." "I hope it will not be too late for him," Aragorn took Arwen's hand and kissed the knuckles. "The three of them deserve happiness, but I fear Legolas may have lost his only chance at it." Arwen nodded, a sad smile on her lips, "The loss of Celebelei must not overtake him." ****************** "Do you think you could eat something now?" Gimli asked as Legolas sat next to him on the edge of the bed. Legolas began to shake his head but stopped when he saw Gimli's glare. He realized that there would be food in him by his own will, or by Gimli's. Sighing, Legolas nodded slowly, "Alright." Gimli smiled at his victory, but frowned as Legolas only took a small piece of fruit. He knew that Legolas would not take more without being forced, but he could not bring himself to do that just yet. Perhaps if Legolas continued to be stubborn. A light knock at the door drew their attention. The light wooden door opened to reveal two identical faces of worry. The twin's concern gave way to relief as they saw Legolas with Gimli. The Dwarf stood and patted Legolas' knee, "I think I had some matters to busy myself with. I'll let you three alone." He looked pointedly at Legolas, "Eat something more, or I shall force an entire meal down your throat." Legolas smiled slightly, the ghost of a movement was enough for Gimli and he left the room. He nodded in greeting to the twins. "How do you fare?" Elladan asked as he approached the bed. Elrohir was right by his side. Legolas smiled again, the same small one he had given Gimli, "I-I will be well." Elrohir noticed the waver in Legolas' voice and moved to sit next to him. He gently laid his hand on Legolas' back, "Legolas, I-" Legolas shook his head, "Please, do not." Elladan sat on his other side, "Legolas, we've been worrying about you. We only wish to help you." Elrohir nodded, "Please let us help you. We love you still, and it tears us to know that you are in such pain." Legolas met Elrohir's eyes, seeing nothing but the fear and love that had been expressed. A familiar pang of guilt and pain surged in his heart and Legolas looked away. He had been feeling better after Gimli's visit, but the now familiar tears were once more burning behind his vision. Elrohir reached up to brush away the tears and fought back his own sorrow at seeing Legolas so deep in his grief. The twins looked at each other and both moved to embrace Legolas. Feeling the warmth around him and knowing the concern, Legolas let himself be pulled into the comforting hold and broke down. The three remained in the embrace, lying back on the bed. Exhausted from his tears, Legolas let himself fall into a sleep. *********************************************************** ~~*Three Weeks Later*~~ Legolas closed his eyes and took in a shuddering breath. He knelt before the grave marker in Aragorn's gardens. He touched the carved stone with his left hand, his right hung in a sling against his chest. "Islamaur, I miss you." He traced the name of the Vanyar Elf on the stone. It was written three times, once and first in the Elvish script, another in Cirth, and the last in Westron. The image of a flowering vine circled the stone, a real one already moving to run over the top and sides. The image of Varda was carved into the top, just above the name. He had spent the last weeks avoiding doing this, saying goodbye. The twins and Gimli had offered their shoulders to cry on, a much appreciated offer. Aragorn had examined his shoulder almost every day, soothing the constant ache with herbs and a balm. It had been an inconvenience only being able to use one hand, and Legolas had found himself wishing for Celebelei to be by his side. Legolas opened his eyes to look at the carvings, he could feel his tears already tracing their way down his cheeks. He wiped them away with his left hand and sighed. He could feel his memories merge to form a complete picture of the Vanyar Elf. With another deep breath, he stood and turned to the exit of the garden. The twins were there, with Thranduil and two of his brothers. His father came over and gently wrapped strong arms around his youngest son. The Elven king had showed up two weeks ago, worried about Legolas to the point of almost ignoring all diplomacy. "Are you well my Greenleaf?" Legolas nodded and relaxed into the hug, "I am Father. I-I just miss him so much." Thranduil nodded in understanding, "I know how you feel my son. But you will feel better, it only takes time." Releasing Legolas, he stood back and smiled encouragingly. Legolas smiled his thanks. The plan was for Legolas to travel to Rivendell and see in Elrond could heal his arm. Though they were certain that the Elven-lord would be sharing his wisdom as well. Gimli would be going as well, since he had managed to get his friend to move again, it had been rare to see them apart. They walked through Aragorn's home, towards to stable to see Thranduil, Feinereg, and Nimelen off. The first time Thranduil showed up, he and Legolas had not left Legolas' room. The youngest Prince of Mirkwood had curled up in his father's comforting arms, glad to have his father by his side again. Thranduil had cheered him up just as he had when he had been a child. "Well, I think it best if we had lunch before leaving," Elladan said after Legolas' family was out of sights. Gimli nodded, "Yes, we should get some food into Legolas." Legolas rolled his eyes, "I will not eat if I'm not hungry Gimli." The Dwarf huffed and was about to say something when Elrohir interrupted. "You should eat something Legolas, keep up your strength." Legolas looked at the stern faces of his friends and sighed, "You are not going to give up will you?" The three shook their heads. **************** Arod whinnied in greeting to Legolas and the Elf smiled. They were ready to leave for Rivendell, all bags were packed and all were fed. Aragorn had practically stood over Legolas to make sure he ate and taking one last look over his shoulder. Giving him a balm to use should the ache grow to be too much at any time, Aragorn told him to take care of himself. His concerns had been met with an exasperated sigh and a chuckle from Gimli. Ready to set off, Legolas mounted carefully. Arod shifted his weight to make sure his Elf would not lose his balance centre. Legolas smiled and rubbed the horse's neck in gratitude before winding his left hand in the thick mane. Gimli was helped up by Elladan before the twins found their own mounts. The Dwarf settled in his familiar place and looked warily at the ground. He trusted Arod not to let him fall, especially since the horse seemed to know that Legolas was injured, but it was still an odd feeling to be so high from the ground. The twins mounted in smooth movements, moving ahead and stopping to watch their companions. Satisfied that everyone was ready, the group started the ride to Rivendell. They would go through the Gap of Rohan and head north from there. *********************************************************** ~~*Rivendell*~~ Elrond re-wrapped the bandage on Legolas' shoulder after rubbing something Legolas couldn't identify onto it. "How do you feel?" The Half-Elven lord asked once he finished. "Nausea seems dominant right now," Legolas replied. "What did you give me?" "Arnica on your shoulder. A Bach Flower Remedy for your emotional state." Legolas made a face, he could taste the unappealing "remedy" still. Elrond smiled slightly and looked through a cabinet to pull out another flask. He poured the liquid in pot that was starting to heat. Throwing in some raspberry leaves as it came to a boil. He poured the finished concoction into a clay mug and handed it to his patient. "It will help you." Legolas sniffed it and raised an eyebrow. Elrond rolled his eyes, "Just drink it Legolas." The blonde Elf sighed and sipped at the medicine, feeling better almost instantly. He winced as he jarred his shoulder putting the mug on the nearby table. Elrond took note of the wince. "The muscle has been torn, nearly shredded by the arrowhead. I've done as much as I can, though I do not know how long it will be before it heals completely. Or if it shall heal at all." Legolas nodded solemnly, "I know." Glorfindel walked in with a tray of light food that Elrond had asked for earlier. The golden-haired lord set the tray down and looked over Legolas before turning to Elrond. "Your sons are waiting for you Elrond, in your study. There's also a very irate Dwarf waiting with them." Elrond smiled and nodded, patting Legolas' shoulder gently before leaving. Glorfindel took a seat at a chair facing Legolas. "How are you feeling now Legolas?" Legolas sighed, "Tired, lonely, and starting to wish people would stop asking me that." Glorfindel smiled kindly, "You have a lot of people that are worried about you. But tell me, physically, you will heal in time. But how are you emotionally?" Legolas lay back on the bed he had been sitting on, "I miss him." Glorfindel sighed and smoothed Legolas' hair comfortingly, "You love Celebelei. How do you think he felt when he watched you die so long ago? He didn't know if you would be reborn." Legolas looked up at the elder Elf curiously, "What do you mean?" Glorfindel smiled, "He is of the Vanyar. Beloved of Manwe and Elbereth. He will be reborn as well, perhaps sooner than any can expect. Most likely in Valinor among his own kin." Legolas seemed to brighten at the thought, "He will be reborn?" "In due time," Glorfindel said. "You just need to wait a little." Legolas smiled. ********************** "Well? How is he?" Gimli's gruff voice was the first thing Elrond heard as he entered his study. The twins were leaning against a wall while the Dwarf stood in the centre of the room. Elrond sighed, "He will heal, though Glorfindel has news that will cheer him considerably." "And what would that be?" Elrohir asked. Elrond cast a worried glance at his sons, "Celebelei will be reborn as well. He is of the Vanyar." The twins paled but nodded. Elladan broke the silence, "So long as he is well and will be happy." Elrond smiled softly admiring his sons' strength. It was undoubtedly hard for them both to accept that Legolas will never be with them again. Gimli nodded, pleased at the news and oblivious to the twins' pain. *********************************************************** EPILOGUE Legolas sighed and looked over the grey, swan-shaped ship. He was ready to leave for the Blessed Realm. The twins would go with him, not wanting to stay in Middle-earth any longer. "You don't have to come Gimli," Legolas said as he looked away from the boat. The Dwarf huffed, "Someone needs to keep an eye on you." The Elf smiled and looked at the twins off to the side. Elladan and Elrohir were talking to several of the other Elves that would be going with them. A number from Mirkwood, Lothlorien, and Rivendell would be going with them. A few from Marsarnas had agreed to come as well, though many of them were going to stay. They were ready to leave after a few more minutes. Their goodbyes had already been said and all that was left was to get on the ship. Legolas smiled as Gimli nudged him in the direction of the ship's plank. The Elf adjusted the cloth wrapped as a sling around his arm and shoulder. He hated to admit that he was getting used to using one hand. Standing on the ship, Legolas saw his father and brothers with Elrond on the docks. He waved as the ship started to move. Gimli was by his side, the twins nearby. They were off to start a new life in Valinor. Legolas smiled, he would be able to see Celebelei again. All he needed was time. *********************************************************** ************ The End!
