My first slash fic on LotR so be nice!! Just as a reminder, this is an ALTERNATE UNIVERSE. As in that Arathorn is still alive, there is no Sauron, and there is no ring. Good, now go read my story!! Summary: To ensure peace between Men and elves, King Thranduil and Chieftain Arathorn agree on a marriage between their children. In the year 2931 of the third age, it is declared that a child of Chieftain Arathorn, son of Arador is to be engaged to a child of the King of the Mirkwood elves, King Thranduil. This shall seal the treaty of peace between the races of Men and the race of Elves. (AN: I suck at declarations, so excuse me for the lameness of this one.) Aragorn re-read the document again. He couldn't believe it! He looked up at his father, who was leaning on the doorframe of his room. "You didn't!" "Yes, I did. Most unfortunate, of course." Arathorn sighed and came over to sit beside his son. "But it had to be done. The races of Man and Elf had to be joined somehow, and we agreed on a marriage proposal." "But-But-" Aragorn sputtered out. "But you just told me that Thranduil's only daughter died! So the contract is voided…right?" Arathorn shook his head, "No. Look at that part." He pointed at the words 'a child'. "The contract is still binding." Aragorn's eyes widened. He dropped the document in shock and realization. "I-I" he tried to get the words out, but his throat was sticky and the syllables wouldn't form on his now parched lips. "I need to go." Arathorn watched his son run out of the room, pity in his dark eyes. ******* "What's wrong, father?" Legolas Greenleaf came to sit beside Thranduil. "You look troubled." "I believe that I must do something you will not like, my dear son." Thranduil said. Legolas tilted his head questionably, urging his father to elaborate. Thranduil sighed and continued. "I made a certain treaty with the Chieftain of the Dunedains. It was to ensure the peace between Elves and Men." "You mean the one with Arathorn? I remember that." Legolas reminisced. "It was on the day Arathorn's son was born. Ithil was to marry him." There was silence. The pain was fresh. Ithil's death brought her household much grief. She was the favorite of all her brothers, being that she was the only girl. They spoiled her and were very protective of the golden haired beauty that made their lives so bright. She had a secret, though. She never told them of her dizziness, of her weak heart. They had found her dead in her room, her heart had given up. "Yes, Ithil was to marry him. But now that she is gone, the treaty still remains. So I must find a substitute for her." Arathorn broke the silence, looking keenly at his beloved son. Legolas knew immediately what his father meant. "You want me to be her replacement." Legolas said slowly, testing each word before letting it roll of f his tongue. "To marry this Dunedain." "You are correct," Thranduil nodded. "We didn't really specify a gender. So, by law, it must still be carried out." Legolas sighed sadly. He didn't really mind that he had to marry someone of the same gender. Elves live so long that they forget such mortal nonsense. It was that he would be losing his freedom. Even if it were to be only for a short while, as men's lives were, it would still be that he would have to give up his usual frolicking to be someone's husband. "Can one of my other brother's do it?" he complained. "Your other brothers are already married, or betroth to some one else." Thranduil reasoned. "Only you are free, my child." Legolas sighed again in defeat. "All right. When do I meet this 'son of Arathorn'?" ~~ Himeko Himura http://www.geocities.com/himekonootaku/index.html Kenshin Himura is my husband, Lance Bass is my best friend, Draco Malfoy is my classmate, and Legolas Greenleaf is my roommate. Summary: To ensure peace between Men and elves, King Thranduil and Chieftain Arathorn agree on a marriage between their children. FLASHBACK TO 2931 "My son." Arathorn announced happily as a baby was carried out to him. " I shall call him Aragorn. He shall be the next Chieftain of the Dunedains." Thranduil stood there next to the proud father, his own children standing not to far off. He motioned to his only daughter, Ithil. The girl was of extraordinary beauty and grace. She glided over to her father rather than walked. "This will be your future husband, my dearest daughter." Thranduil smiled. "This is Aragorn, son of Arathorn. When he is of age, you will wed him and bring unity to our people." Ithil looked at Aragorn lovingly as the tiny baby squirmed in Arathorn’s arms. "As you wish, Father," she said simply. She looked over to her brothers, who were standing in the corner, watching her intently. They were so protective of her and didn't seem very happy at the prospect of their sister getting married to a Man. Legolas, her younger brother, was the only one of them that had a smile on his face. Arathorn smiled at Ithil and held the baby out for her to hold. She took the baby into her arms gently. The child snuggled up to her and sighed. Closing his eyes, the baby prince slept. Leaning forward, she kissed him on the forehead. "Sleep well, my husband." END FLASHBACK Legolas sat in a tall tree, thinking. It would be two more days until they would reach the Dunedain's country. Apparently, his future husband's birthday was near and they wanted the boy to get to know his bride before the actual ceremony. Legolas sighed heavily. How unfortunate his life was… "Legolas!!" His cousin, Ethuil, called. The fair elf stood on the ground, looking up at his prince. "Uncle wishes a word with you!" "Was it important?" Legolas asked. "He did not say." Ethuil shook his head. "But I believe it is very important. Uncle Thranduil said that it is of the Dunedains that he must talk to you about." With another long sigh, Legolas jumped down from his high perch. "Lead me to him, then." Thranduil smiled as his son entered his tent. "Legolas, good! Ethuil found you." "That he did, father." Legolas replied, somewhat sourly. "What is it that you want to talk to me about?" "It seems that Arathorn is very eager for you to meet his son." Thranduil said. "They are riding out to meet us at a river near here." "That's nice. Is it Arathorn or my fiancée that is eager?" Thranduil fell silent. Legolas needed no more explanation. He walked out of the tent quickly. Thranduil sighed and mumbled, "what have I done?" ************************************************** "Aragorn!" Arathorn called to his son. "Damn the gods! Get out here right now and stop being a child!" Aragorn apparently had locked himself in his room for almost a month. Ever since Arathorn had told him about the treaty. "I will not!" Aragorn shouted. "That stupid decision was made with out my consent! I will not be a slave to someone else's mistake!" Arathorn fell into an angry silence. Aragorn was right about that. But that was no reason for the boy to act like he was. "For the god’s sake, Aragorn! Just meet the boy! His name is Legolas and he's coming to meet you in two days. I told Thranduil that we would come out to meet them at the river!" "Then go alone! For I shall not join you!" Arathorn let out an exasperated sigh. There was no choice now. "If you will not come out, then by my gods I shall come in there and knock some sense in to that thickheaded brain of yours!" he motioned to servants, who stood near-by with axes. They chopped the door down easily and Arathorn stepped over the splinters to enter Aragorn's room. Aragorn was sitting on the bed, not even looking up at his father. Arathorn glared heatedly at his son. "Aragorn, get your horse ready. We are meeting your fiancée. NOW." Aragorn looked up at his father in hatred. This was so unfair. He did NOT want to marry some elf. ESPECIALLY a male elf! "Fine." He said. "I will go meet him. But if he does not convince me in a week, we call off the marriage." "Until your birthday." Arathorn bargained. "Two weeks." "Week and a half." "Deal." ********************************************* "Thranduil!" Arathorn greeted the Elven king happily. "It's been almost 20 years since I've seen you!" "Has it been that long?" Thranduil smiled and hugged the chieftain good-naturedly. "You still look the same." Legolas stood behind his father, watching the exchange in interest. Was this the father of his fiancée? If so, where was the boy he was to meet? Legolas shuffled on his feet nervously. There weren’t any other men with Arathorn, so where was this Aragorn that he was brought all this way for. "Where is Aragorn?" Thranduil asked, also noticing the absence of another being with the Chieftain. Arathorn laughed and motioned with his hand to a near-by tree. A young man stepped into view, a sour look on his face. Legolas watched the boy curiously as he sauntered up to his father. Thranduil gave the man a hearty thump on the back. "So you are Aragorn, eh? Then you must meet my son." Legolas was motioned over to where the three stood. Rolling his eyes, he walked over to them on silent feet. He was introduced to Aragorn and Arathorn. He greeted them in kind, but Aragorn did not favor him with the smallest glance. Aragorn kept his head down through the whole introduction, not wanting to even look at Legolas. Arathorn took Legolas aside to speak to him in private. "Aragorn is being sour, and for that I will apologize for." Arathorn said in quiet, whispering tones. "But there is something you must know of, before it gets out of hand. Aragorn made a deal with me. If he is not convinced that you would make a good spouse, the marriage is off. He has a week and a half before he can make his decision." "You mean the marriage would be canceled?" Legolas couldn't keep the joy out of his voice. "So I just have to be unworthy of his affections, right?" "Essentially, yes." Arathorn did not like the way this conversation was starting to turn to. He decided on a different approach. "But this marriage must take place so there is no war between our people. Do you understand?" Legolas understood clearly and walked away with a skip in his step. There was still a chance that he could get out of it! "I see no reason to be happy, Elf." Legolas jumped. He glanced up into the tree in which he heard the voice come from. "What do you mean?" Legolas asked hesitantly. "Why can't I be happy?" "It is not time to rejoice, Elf. Do it when the marriage is called off." Aragorn jumped down in front of Legolas. "Then we'll know for certain that we will not be married." "A-Aragorn…" Legolas was surprised and suspicious. "Why do you think that? In only ten days, you just have to say that you find me unworthy and the proposal shall be ended." "Do not underestimate our father's, Elf." Aragorn sneered. "They were over there planning our wedding as we speak. They seem quite sure that we will be married in two weeks." "But your father…" "My father lies to get his way." Aragorn snapped. "He just accepted my offer to get me to come along 'peacefully'. I would be a fool to take that declaration to heart." "You are wary of his trust?" Legolas was confused. "Do all Men lie to their sons, or break their promises?" "Men lie to their sons to make then obey," Aragorn snapped sharply. "You are a fool, Elf. I must have been cursed by the gods themselves to be engaged to an Elf like you." With that, the man walked away, leaving a stunned Legolas behind. "I don't think he likes you at all." Ethuil walked over to stand beside Legolas. He had been watching the exchange between Aragorn and Legolas from a near-by tree. "Stupid Man." Legolas was silent. He did not think that Aragorn was stupid. He was right, even if Aragorn said that he found Legolas unfit, their fathers would still force them to marry. How foolish of him to believe what Arathorn said. "I need to speak to my father." Legolas spoke up suddenly, interrupting Ethuil's . He walked off abruptly, leaving Ethuil behind. Ethuil sighed. "Those two are so alike, it scares me." He mumbled. ~~ Himeko Himura http://www.geocities.com/himekonootaku/index.html Kenshin Himura is my husband, Lance Bass is my best friend, Draco Malfoy is my classmate, and Legolas Greenleaf is my roommate. Summary: To ensure peace between Men and elves, King Thranduil and Chieftain Arathorn agree on a marriage between their children. Legolas entered the tent in search of his father, but Thranduil was not there. Glancing around, he gasped when he saw Ithil's portrait on a table. "Ithil…" he picked the picture up from where it stood. He remembered this certain one. It was made on the day that Aragorn was born. Legolas felt the tears well up in his eyes, but he wiped them away quickly. He would be strong for her and not cry. "Elf?" Aragorn walked into the tent and saw Legolas there instead of Thranduil. "What are you doing here? Where is your father?" "He's out." Legolas said simply. The Man looked Legolas in the eye with out wavering and Legolas started to get uncomfortable. "Is there something you want?" "You were crying, weren't you?" Legolas looked at him in surprise. He lifted a hand to his face and felt the salty tears. "Where'd this come from?" he asked. Aragorn rolled his eyes. "You are the stupidest Elf that I have ever met." "Hey!" Legolas was offended. "I am not stupid." "You are to me Elf. If you don't know where tears come from, then you must be stupid." Aragorn said smugly and turned to walk out of the tent. "Go back to Elf school, boy." Legolas followed him angrily. "For your information, we have no 'Elf School.'" Legolas stated, walking beside Aragorn. "We learn everything from our parents." "Then your father must be as stupid as you." Aragorn scoffed. "No wonder we're stuck in a mess like this." "What was that?!" Legolas stepped in Aragorn's way, eyes flashing in anger. "I don't like the way that you talk, Man. I do not anger easily, but you are pissing me off." (AN: modern term, I know. But what else am I supposed to say??) Aragorn looked at him in surprise. Then, suddenly, he laughed. Legolas looked at him clutching at his stomach and was at a total loss. "Pissed off?" Aragorn choked out. "I did not know that the fair Elven people knew such language." Legolas pouted and caused Aragorn to laugh harder. "You are annoying me. Would you please stop laughing? You are making me feel like an idiot." That made Aragorn fall to the forest floor. He was laughing so hard that he couldn't breath. "Legolas!" Thranduil and Arathorn walked over to their sons. Looking down at Aragorn, Arathorn looked very confused. "What did you do to him?" "He did it to himself." Legolas harrumphed. He folding his arms across his chest and turning away from the others. Aragorn was now very close to suffocation. Thranduil looked at Arathorn, who looked at Thranduil and they both started to laugh. Legolas, whose pride was hurt, walked away from the three gasping individuals muttering insults at each one privately. Ethuil, who was spying as usual, came to talk to Legolas. "It was funny, you know." Ethuil smiled. "Go join them, then." Legolas jerked a thumb over his shoulder. "I think you will be much more welcome." "Don't be so touchy." Ethuil rolled his eyes. "The reason you were laughed at is because of your inability to control yourself around the Chieftain's son." "He is just so-so irritating!" Legolas made large gestures to prove his point. "I just can't stand to be around him!" Ethuil laughed. "Right. I believe you." Legolas glared at Ethuil and the elf laughed harder. "I'm glad you think my suffering is funny." Legolas said peevishly. "Come then, cousin." Ethuil smiled happily, "Let's go practice our archery. It will help to rid you of the temporary foolishness that you seemed to picked up." ******************************************** "Bull's eye!" Legolas shouted smugly. Ethuil sighed in defeat. "No one can beat you, oh great price of Archers." He danced away from Legolas' fist. He bowed mockingly. "Hail the great prince who can shoot anything from any distance." "Is that true?" Legolas tensed. Aragorn came up from behind them, the two sovereigns in tow. "Then I should have a go, to test my skills against someone so great." "Yes, Legolas! Show us your skills!" Arathorn thumped him on the back. "It will provide us with ample entertainment before dinner." Thranduil gave Legolas a pleading look. Legolas sighed and nodded. Might as well agree rather than get yelled at later. "Okay, then." They set up the targets and gave Aragorn and Legolas the same kind of bow, so that neither had any unfair advantages. They had a couple of practice shots. Aragorn didn't seem to have any talent in archery. When it came to the real game, Legolas had to fight to win. He had underestimated Aragorn's skill. Aragorn was more than a match for Legolas. His precision and aim marveled Legolas and more than once did the young elf find himself staring at the young would-be chieftain. At the last target, he and Aragorn were even. "Well then, we have underestimated you, Aragorn." Thranduil laughed as the last target was being set up. "You had us fooled in the beginning, but that was all an act." "Underestimation is the key to winning, my lord." Aragorn bowed. He looked over to Legolas a smirked. "Do you wish to go first, Elf Prince?" Legolas didn't take the bait this time. "It would be my honor if you go first, Man Lord." Legolas watched Aragorn as he positioned himself. The Elf smirked. There was no way the Man could shoot a target such a distance. Only an Elf had such ability and eyesight. Aragorn let loose his arrow. 'He'll never make it.' Legolas thought. Summary: To ensure peace between Men and elves, King Thranduil and Chieftain Arathorn agree on a marriage between their children. The soft clatter of horse hoofs went unnoticed by the brooding Legolas. He rode beside his father, Arathorn and Aragorn. He was thinking about the tournament. How could a mere Man tie an Elf at archery? It was unheard of! Yet this boy, this Aragorn, had that rare ability and skill. Legolas glanced over to Aragorn. The Man also had the look of one that was brooding. His eyes were unfocused and hazy, as if seeing but not comprehending. The reins of the horse were lax in his hands and the horse, it seemed, was leading itself. "Checking out your boyfriend, my dear cousin?" Ethuil's voice whispered into Legolas' ear. Legolas frowned and swatted at his cousin. Ethuil laughed and danced away. "You just can't admit that you like him." "Do shut your mouth, Ethuil." Legolas ground out, hoping that the others didn't hear that. He led Ethuil to the back of the party. "Damn you Ethuil! They might hear you!" Ethuil winked. "Why do you care, cousin? Is what I say truth?' he lifted his eyebrows expectantly. Legolas rolled his eyes. "What I wonder though, is why you keep trying to get us together?" he asked. "I only see what I see, Master Elf." Ethuil smiled. "And may I ask what you see?" "What you do not." With that, the other Elf rode away, leaving Legolas to his own thoughts. **************************************** The house of Arathorn was alive with celebration. The Dunedain made a large feast in honor of Aragorn's betrothed. Suddenly, Legolas found himself the center of attention. He was showered with flowers and the sweet kisses of the village maidens. Aragorn was also showered with gifts and kisses. They were seated beside each other on a long table filled with every kind of food you could think of. "Why are we celebrating something that will probably not take place?" whispered a grumpy Legolas. The Man shrugged "I guess they couldn't wait." When all of their company had been sufficiently fed and watered, they were shown to their rooms. Legolas found himself tired beyond all measure. When he was shown to his rooms, he didn't even notice that it had no door. "Do you wish for some bath water be brought to your room my lord?" the servant asked. Legolas accepted gratefully and headed toward the tub, taking off his clothes on the way. He sank down into the water gratefully. How he missed having a hot bath! ************************************* Aragorn walked into his room and immediately knew that someone had been in there. Of course, the maids came in often, but this was different. Someone else had been in there and, judging from the sounds that were coming from the bath, was still here. How dare someone come into his room uninvited! Aragorn drew his sword from its sheath and crept over to where the tub was kept. He would pull the curtain away and stab the intruder. Yes, that was what he would do. The curtain pulled away before he could do it himself and he came face-to-face with a wet and half-naked Legolas. Both let out a startle gasp and flung themselves away. "What are you doing in my room?" they said at the same time. Scowling at each other, they answered, "What do you mean, your room? This is my room!" Ethuil, who had entered the room to talk to Legolas, was beside himself with laughter. He had come in just before they encountered each other and saw the whole thing. "T-that w-was so funny!' he gasped out, holding his stomach. The two looked over at him with angry faces. They yelled together "Shut your mouth! It isn't funny!" Ethuil laughed harder. Legolas helped himself up, making sure to keep a hand on the towel lest it fall and reveal him. "Out." He commanded Ethuil. Recognizing the rare anger in Legolas' voice, Ethuil immediately walked out, muffling his giggling with a hand. "Tell me what you are doing in here Man." Legolas said, eyes hard. Aragorn was not fazed. "This is my room, Elf, and has been for years. It is you who in the intruder and I babe you to redress and get out." Legolas blushed as he was reminded of his nakedness. But he did not back down. "I was shown this room and was told that it was to be mine. It is due to your servants that we are in this position. I shall honor your first request, but you must speak to you servants about the second." Legolas pushed Aragorn away and closed the curtain on him. Aragorn glared heatedly at it." "I don't think the curtain appreciates the way you're looking at it." Legolas' voice wafted up form behind the curtain. Aragorn snorted in contempt and turned away from the cloth. He let his mind wander, thinking back to before he met this foolish elf. For some reason, the sight of Legolas' nakedness came to mind and he found that the Elf's broad, pale chest was a little alluring… Aragorn shook his head, trying to rid his head of that image. Legolas came out from the bath fully dressed, but Aragorn couldn't look the Elf in the face with out blushing. His eyes seemed to like wandering down the lithe figure of- "Aragorn?" Legolas was waving a hand in front of his face. "Yes?" Aragorn said with a start. Damn, got caught. Legolas smirked knowingly. "You want to see the rest of me?" he said in a very sexy voice. "NEVER!" Aragorn shouted, making Legolas smile wider. The Man was blushing furiously, trying not to look at the Elf. He walked out, saying over his shoulder "Hurry up, Elf! Let's get you another room! I don't fancy you staying in mine." Legolas laughed and followed. This was quite fun. ************************ "I did it on purpose." "What?" Aragorn exploded. "You mean to tell me that you want me and this Elf to share a room?" "More or less." Arathorn dropped another grape into his mouth. Just moments before, his son and Legolas had stormed into his room while he was having a snack just to yell at him on why they were put in the same room. Arathorn thought it would be obvious on why they had to share a room. "There is no need for concern." "NO NEED FOR CONCERN?" Aragorn yelled. Legolas placed a hand on Aragorn's shoulder in a vain attempt to calm the raging Man. "It is very unlikely that anything will happen, so the arrangement is quite acceptable." Both Aragorn and Legolas blushed. They knew exactly what Arathorn was implying. Usually engaged couples were not allowed to sleep together until they were married so that no children were conceived out of wedlock. That little rule, of course, would not apply to them. "Just get him another room prepared! I will not tolerate to having to share a bed with him, no matter if we are going to be…married." Aragorn said angrily, but it lost its bite after he said the word 'married'. He did not want to be married to some two-thousand-year-old Elf and he certainly didn't want to give up his freedom or his bedroom. "A week, Aragorn. You have a week, remember." Arathorn waved his hand, shooing them away. "I think you can stand to share a bedroom with him for a week, Aragorn. Of course at the end of the week, you might want to share it longer." ~~ Himeko Himura http://www.geocities.com/himekonootaku/index.html Kenshin Himura is my husband, Lance Bass is my best friend, Draco Malfoy is my classmate, and Legolas Greenleaf is my roommate. After being told that he would have to sleep in the same room with the Elf boy, he was in a very bad mood. Legolas was no different. He scowled at Aragorn and sat on a near-by chair. "I am not liking your father, Man." "Neither am I, Elf." Aragorn replied. "Legolas!" Ethuil called from the doorway. "Come in!" Legolas called back. Aragorn frowned. Was there no end to the elves around here? He got up and started to gather his things. "What are you doing?" Legolas asked Aragorn as Ethuil walked in. "Taking a bath." Aragorn said and walked off. "Maybe you should join him, Legolas." Ethuil whispered in his cousin's ear. Legolas slapped the giggling Elf away. "Don't talk nonsense, Ethuil." Legolas said. "Like I would want to spend any time with a thing like him." "I heard that!" Aragorn called from the bath. "Idiot Man…" Legolas murmured, pulling Ethuil out the door. "I heard that too." Aragorn called again. 'I really hate him…' Legolas thought. "I heard that too!" Legolas let out an exasperated sigh "How could he?" Ethuil's mouth curved into a grin. "It seems that he’s rather attuned to your thoughts, cousin." "Shut up." Legolas said. "Anyway, what are you doing here?" Ethuil faked hurt. "I'm sorry Legolas. I didn't know that you wanted to be alone. I'll leave you two lovebirds to have you fun in the tub…" Legolas rolled his eyes. "Stop playing around Ethuil." "Actually, uncle wanted to speak to you." Ethuil said, sobering up. "Something important is up, I think." Legolas frowned. "What do you mean?" "I don't know, but I think it concerns you and the Chieftain's son." *************************** Aragorn sighed as he soaked himself in the bath. All the stress of the last few days seemed to wash away with the warm soppy water. It would have been lovely if the water could wash his problems away as easy as it did dirt. He didn't know how long he had been in there when Legolas skipped into the room. The Elf stood right outside the curtain when he shouted "Man! Get out of the bath, we need to talk!" Aragorn sighed and shouted back "What for? I'm having a great time where I am." "You will have a greater time after you here what I have to say." Legolas replied and walked away. Aragorn, now curious, wiped himself up before going for his clothes. Rummaging around, he found that he had forgotten his shirt! Cursing, he put on the rest of his clothes before going out to where Legolas was to get his shirt. "Continue, Elf." He said while putting on his shirt. Legolas smiled widely "we don't have to get married." Aragorn looked up sharply. "What do you mean, Elf?" "I just talked to my father and he said that there was a way that we could get out of it." Legolas rambled. "He said that if another of the royal Elves were to marry you, the purpose of the treaty would be fulfilled. " Aragorn felt a smile creep on his lips. "Great! Is there one?" "Is there one what?" "Another royal Elf, stupid!" Legolas frowned. "I never asked." Aragorn's jaw dropped. He advanced on Legolas. The Elf held his hands up, warding off Aragorn. "Calm down! I know who it is anyway." "Who?" "The daughter of Elrond, Arwen." *** Hows that for a cliffhanger, eh?^^ what do you think is gonna happen??
