Chapter Twelve “The first night we were together, Legolas, I knew I loved you,” Elladan admitted frankly. “The very idea frightened me and I even told Elrohir I could not pursue you. I told him I would not stand in his way if he wished to woo you. He, of course, told me I was being irrational and I could not deny my feelings. “My brother can be very wise and I am ever thankful for his advice yesterday morning. When Ervinai showed up I didn’t want to leave with her, but I had made a promise and had to honor it. I regret everything that happened once she had me there. I shamed myself and hurt you. I guess a part of me was still afraid of loving an elf and placing myself in a position to be hurt again. I am no longer worried about that. I am offering you everything that I am, Legolas, everything I will ever be. Will you have me?” “You realize I love Elrohir as well?” the prince asked. With a deep breath he let out his anger at last. “I will not forsake him for you. He has been nothing but honorable and loving. Above all, he has been faithful to me from the start. Can you sit there and tell me you will not have those same fears again? What if one day you wake up and decide you cannot love an elf? Will you go back to Ervinai or will you find another willing *elleth* to sate your desires and prove yourself?” As Legolas spat his last words, he stood. “Surely you know I would never treat you as Haldir did.” Legolas interjected, gently. “I am not that kind of elf, and love is giving more than taking. So far all you have done is to take. It may have been freely offered by Ervinai and me, but you took and you will keep taking, Elladan! “Will you call me a whore, as well? I opened myself up to you, gave you what few have ever had…and you…you don’t know what love is! Until you learn, keep your empty declarations of love to yourself.” Legolas left muttering to himself as he headed back to the house, leaving Elladan sitting with his mouth agape. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Glorfindel looked up from the map he had been studying and saw Legolas returning to the house without Elladan. “I don’t think the talk between Elladan and the prince went well.” “Why do you say that?” Erestor asked, looking up to see what Glorfindel was talking about. “Legolas has returned without him,” Elrond said, stating the obvious. “By the look on his face, I would say he is angry.” “I am sure Elrohir will calm him down,” the blond warrior offered. “The prince will seek him out.” “I don’t think he will,” the counselor remarked. “I imagine Elrohir will not even know what occurred until Elladan himself tells him.” “Aye, Legolas generally keeps to himself when he is riled,” Elrond agreed, frowning as he tried to decide whether to interfere or leave things alone. “Where is Elrohir?” “He is training some of the younger students in sword play,” Glorfindel replied. “Shall I send someone after him?” “Perhaps, aye,” Elrond decided. “Tell him Legolas has returned alone and is probably in his rooms.” As Glorfindel left to make sure the twin was notified, Erestor and Elrond went back to studying the latest reports. Their trip to Mirkwood was only a few days away and they wanted to be ready for anything. Small bands of orcs still roamed over the mountains and the Elf lord wanted everyone to arrive safely. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ “Legolas, it is Elrohir. May I come in?” the twin asked as he knocked on the prince’s door. He did not know what happened between his brother and Legolas, but he was concerned by his lover’s return. Legolas opened the door a crack to make sure Elrohir was alone before opening it further to invite him in. “I was going to go look for you in a few minutes.” Elrohir placed his hands on Legolas’ shoulders and looked at him. He could tell the talk did not go well and that the prince was upset. “What happened? Are you all right?” “I am fine, only angry,” Legolas answered softly. “Is Elladan…you didn’t hit him or anything, did you?” Elrohir asked, worried about his brother. He reached out to Elladan, but once his twin realized his mind was being probed, he shut off his thoughts. The only thing the younger twin could sense was sadness and anger. “My words probably hurt him far more than my fists ever could,” Legolas admitted sadly. “What exactly happened? What did you say?” “I told him he didn’t know what love was and to keep his empty declarations of it to himself.” Legolas turned away and sat in a nearby chair, sinking into it with a sigh. Elrohir took a deep breath and sat in the chair placed next to Legolas’. “You are angry about Ervinai, that he violated your trust.” “Yes, I am,” Legolas replied harshly. “Elladan offered himself to me, offered his love, but honestly, Elrohir, I am not sure he knows what love is. I told him I would not forsake you. You have been so loving and faithful… you are so much more than I ever dreamed of, my Elf knight.” “I am not perfect, my Prince. I too have faults,” Elrohir replied, gently. “As do you. Are you sure there isn’t something else happening to cause your anger towards Elladan?” “What do you mean?” Legolas asked, leaning forward in his chair. “I am not sure, that is why I am asking you, melethen,” Elrohir replied with a smile. “Could it be that Elladan used Ervinai as you have been used by Thaladirith? Perhaps you feel sorry for Ervinai because you know how she feels. Granted, you have not performed her deeds and you are nothing like her in personality, but your situations are similar.” Legolas stared at Elrohir in shocked disbelief. “Do not look so surprised, Legolas,” Elrohir responded with a laugh. “It does not take a genius to see you are hurting as deeply as Elladan. You should tell him your own story. Then, and only then, can the two of you work on furthering your relationship. You love him and he loves you, but your pasts keep you from accepting it. I, on the other hand, know I love you and have no problem showing it. Come here, Prince.” Legolas wasted no time moving into Elrohir’s arms and giving into the pillaging kiss the twin bestowed on him. “I hated the thoughts of you with Elladan,” Elrohir said huskily as he carried Legolas to the bed. “It drove me mad that he might be making love to you when that is all I want to do.” “Aye, love me, Elrohir,” Legolas replied breathlessly as he removed his lover’s clothing. “Show me again what it is like to have you fill me.” Elrohir was already preparing the prince as Legolas reached for the twin’s arousal and began to stroke it. His movements were well practiced, but performed out of love. “Hurry, my Elf knight.” “Soon, melethen,” Elrohir replied as he teased his Prince’s nub from within. “I want you begging me, Legolas.” “Elrohir,” the prince moaned as he pushed down on the twin’s fingers. “Saes, now.” When the elf knight looked up into Legolas’ face, he was overcome with need. Those azure eyes were half lidded and the prince’s face was flushed with desire. “Beautiful,” Elrohir breathed. He removed his fingers and oiled his already leaking arousal, moaning at the thought of filling his prince’s tightness. Legolas reached for his lover, pulling him closer, as the blond lifted his hips in blatant invitation. Elrohir entered Legolas in a slow, deep thrust, pulling moans of contentment from them both. “You are mine, Legolas,” Elrohir insisted. “Mine for now and for eternity.” “Aye, always, Elrohir,” Legolas answered breathlessly. “I love…” Someone pounding on the door interrupted the prince’s words and they became still. “Who could be here?” Elrohir asked softly. “I know not,” the prince answered. “Legolas! I know you are in there, open this door before I knock it down.” Elladan’s voice was harsh and angry. More pounding followed as Elrohir and Legolas separated and began to dress hurriedly. “What are you doing here?” Legolas demanded. “I said everything I wanted to say when we talked.” “I swear I will kick this door down, Legolas!” Elladan was becoming more impatient. “You left before I had a chance to answer your accusations and I will have my say!” “Let him in, Legolas,” Elrohir encouraged. “He will do as he says.” Taking one last look at himself and Elrohir, Legolas went to the door and opened it. Elladan pushed past him and into the room. He let out a bitter laugh and shook his head. “I should have known you would interfere,” the elf warrior said to his brother. “This is between Legolas and me!” “Father saw him return to the house alone and upset, I was sent to check on him,” Elrohir replied sharply. “Do not blame me for this. I calmed him down and advised him to speak with you again.” “Aye, before you tried to bed him!” Elladan was growing more angry by the moment and when he happened to see where Elrohir marked Legolas he exploded. “You marked him? How dare you!” “I love him, too,” Elrohir shouted, advancing toward his brother. “Enough to take every opportunity you can to push me out of his mind!” Elladan spat as he pushed Elrohir. “Enough!” Legolas shouted, stepping in between the twins. “Both of you, leave this instant. I am not some possession to fight over! I am flesh and blood. I have a mind and a heart, and right now it is breaking! Go! Get out of my room!” Elladan and Elrohir looked at Legolas as if they just remembered he was in the room. Shame could be seen on their faces as they both nodded and left the room. As Legolas shut the door and leaned against it, he could hear them arguing as they walked down the hall. Fed up with both twins, Legolas made his way to the wardrobe and began to pack his clothes. Love or not, he was leaving Imladris at first light. Enough was enough. TBC
