A/N: *Emphasis*, (Thoughts) This story has been floating around in my mind and demanded to be written. It features a darker Elladan than we are used to and a young vulnerable Legolas. For the purpose of this story, I have decided (with some advice from the great and wonderful Min.) that the age of majority for an elf is 500 years. Legolas will reach his majority during the year of their betrothal. NO underage sex!!! NO non-con and NO rape!!! Feedback: Would be wonderful and makes me type faster! Summary: Legolas tries to deal with his reaction to Elladan’s kiss while Elrohir has to keep Elladan from being killed. An accusation is made against Elladan. Chapter Eight Legolas broke the kiss with an angry gasp and pushed against Elladan with all his might. “Get off of me, Elladan!” he growled as he pushed the elf away. Surprised by his own actions, Elladan stared at Legolas with surprise as the prince got up and left the loft in a hurry. Disgusted with himself, the elf warrior sighed and wondered why he had ever been tempted to kiss the prince in the first place. Legolas was just a spoiled woodland prince, and beautiful or not, he was what he was. As Elladan descended the ladder he saw that Legolas had started working on the stalls once again and refused to look up from his work. Without a word to the prince, Elladan began to work on the stalls at the opposite end of the stables. What could he say that would even begin to apologize for his actions? It was doubtful that Legolas would listen to any explanation he had to offer. Was he really sorry the kiss had taken place? No, Elladan wasn’t sorry about that, but he was concerned by the prince’s reaction. “Was that your first kiss?” the elf warrior asked, his voice almost too low for Legolas to hear. Flushed with embarrassment, Legolas debated whether to answer Elladan or not. He wasn’t sure if he was embarrassed about the entire situation and the feelings the kiss had brought out in him, or if it was just the fact that Elladan had asked him the question. The prince sighed softly and answered with a quiet, “Aye.” “I know you probably won’t believe me, but I am sorry that I took something so precious away from you like I did,” Elladan replied sincerely. “If you don’t mind, I would rather not talk about it,” Legolas pleaded without looking up. “I just want to get this done in time for a bath before I have to meet with Lord Erestor.” Elladan watched Legolas work a little longer wondering how easily the prince kept his composure. The elf warrior was sure no one in the house would suspect what happened this morning in the hayloft. Legolas was too embarrassed to talk about it even to him. And Elladan had to admit it had taken a lot of guts to dowse him and his bed with cold water. With a shake of his head the elf warrior went back to work, wondering if he and Legolas would ever be able to have a civil conversation that lasted more than a few sentences. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Legolas walked quickly down the hallway, his pale blond hair still wet from his bath. If he could just make it to the library on time and start studying, he could forget the thoughts of the kiss Elladan and he had shared. Since it had happened, the prince couldn’t concentrate on anything else: the feel of Elladan’s lips against his, and then the depth of the kiss, and the elf warrior’s tongue kissing him like he had never imagined a kiss could be. The prince’s brain was still fogged from the heat of that kiss and the feeling of Elladan’s hardness against his abdomen. “Good morning, Legolas,” Erestor said with a smile as he picked up a book of lore he wanted the prince to study that morning, Pulled from his inner musings the prince was able to smile and take the book from the kind elf. “I am sorry if I am running late this morning,” Legolas said quickly. “Elladan and I have to clean the stalls in the mornings for a fortnight, and it took longer than we expected today. I promise I shall be on time tomorrow.” “You are not late at all, ernilen,” Erestor replied as he offered a breakfast cake to Legolas. With a growling stomach, Legolas accepted the cake and the cup of tea his tutor sat before him. “Thank you. I did not have time for breakfast this morning.” “I am well aware of that, Legolas,” Erestor replied with a kind smile. “I know more of what goes on in this vale than most elves give me credit for. Now, shall we start on today’s lesson while you enjoy your breakfast?” “Aye, hiren and thank you again,” Legolas said returning Erestor’s smile. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Elrohir swore as he had to protect Elladan’s left once again. “Damn it, Elladan! Pay attention or you will get us both killed this day!” The morning patrol had run into a band of orcs and they were outnumbered almost two to one. Elrohir was having a hard time killing orcs and protecting his brother, whose mind seemed miles away. Glorfindel was busy ordering the guard so that the orcs were surrounded and could not escape. Once the orcs were dispatched, Elrohir let his anger at Elladan’s lack of attention during the battle loose. “Where you *trying* to get yourself killed?” he demanded when he approached his brother. “I suggest that whatever is that is distracting you should be taken care of, and before tomorrow. I may not always be able to save your skin and mine!” Elladan scowled and pushed past Elrohir to help with the clean up of the orc carcasses. Elrohir was right, of course. His mind was elsewhere and he had no excuse for allowing anything to interfere with his duty to protect Imladris and his twin. “It is not like I have never come to your aid, little brother,” Elladan answered hatefully. “Many times I have saved you from a death blow.” “Aye, when I was fighting more than three at a time,” Elrohir retorted, growing especially aggravated with Elladan’s mood this morning. “What has happened that you are so distracted and hateful?” “If you will remember, I have to get up two hours early and muck out the stables before I can even start my day. I am a little tired, Elrohir,” Elladan insisted, and gave his twin a look that meant he was finished with the topic. “That is warg shit, Elladan,” the elf knight replied. “You have fought for days and never failed to protect yourself. Something has happened and you might as well tell me.” “You mean besides having to bind to Legolas? Oh let me see, I have to remain chaste, I have to train him with weapons he has never wielded, I am losing two hours of sleep each night, and my own brother will give me no peace!” Elladan snapped before walking away and gathering the reins for his stallion. “You see, Elrohir? Everything for me is perfect. Just perfect.” As the patrol rode back to Imladris, Elrohir stuck close to Elladan, hoping his twin would shed more light on his foul mood, but the elf warrior kept his thoughts to himself. Elladan realized Elrohir was only trying to help, but there was no way he would speak to him about the kiss he had given Legolas that morning in the hayloft. It would be like admitting he felt something for the young prince, and he most definitely didn’t feel anything for him. It was a moment of insanity; it had to be, because Elladan was not interested in the woodland prince. Legolas was irritating to be around, too young, and brought out the worst in him. Elladan scowled at the ring on his finger and wished the Valar had chosen someone else to mentor and bind to the wood elf. His mood grew darker the closer they came to the stables. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Elladan’s mood didn’t improve during the noon meal, but everyone around him was talking about their mornings. Legolas was the only one more silent than the elf warrior. Elrohir tried to cheer the young prince, but his jests only produced a small smile from Legolas. “What has gotten you in such a mood, ernilen?” Elrohir asked, wondering why the usual jovial prince was so quiet. “Cat got your tongue?” Elrohir’s words had barely left his lips when Legolas looked up and blushed all the way to his ears. He turned to Elladan and glared at him as he would his worst enemy before fleeing the table and the dining area. Elrohir turned to look at Elladan and caught the strangest look on his twin’s face. By the time everyone else turned to look at the elder twin he had masked his first reaction and returned everyone’s curious looks. “Why are you looking at me? I didn’t say or do anything to cause *him* to leave during the meal,” Elladan snapped defensively. “Look to Elrohir. It was his words that caused the problem.” Elrohir thought perhaps he had unconsciously discovered Elladan’s problem, if you wanted to call it a problem. “I am unsure what I said to cause Legolas such distress, but will apologize as soon as we finish our meal. I need to discuss something with Elladan first.” Celebrian, always feeling the need to be motherly, cleared her throat to catch everyone’s attention. “I think Legolas is having a rough time adjusting to being here. Perhaps if Elladan tried harder to befriend the prince he would not feel so alone.” Elrond agreed with his wife and gave Elladan a look that promised trouble if he did not do his best to at least be civil to the young prince. “Why are you treating me like I am the one who upset him?” Elladan asked with a sigh. “I said nothing to him.” “Perhaps it is not what you said to him,” Elrohir remarked. “Perhaps it is what you did to him.” “What are you talking about Elrohir?” Elrond nearly demanded. “I think the prince has had his first kiss. Isn’t that right Elladan?” Elrohir asked, narrowing his eyes at his twin. “Elladan!!” both Elrond and Celebrian said at the same time. Elladan looked at Elrohir in disbelief and shock. “This is against the provisions set in the contract,” Bargon pointed out while Maethoron shot daggers at Elladan. “Something has to be done about this.” “I have never been kissed,” Legolas said, retaking his seat. “My stomach became upset and I needed to leave the room. I apologize for not asking to be excused.” Legolas' eyes met Elladan's across the table and for the first time there was thankfulness in them instead of scorn. TBC
