Mani Marte 11 Glorfindel sighed, Elrond had better have a good reason for summoning him to his chambers. It had only been three weeks since Elrond had tried to bully Erestor into not continuing their friendship. He had never been so happy to have not told Elrond something. Valar knew how the half-elf would react to learning Glorfindel was attracted to the now ostracized Erestor. "Don't look at me like that," Elrond snapped when Glorfindel entered the room. "Unless you are going to renounce your position, you will be leaving for the border patrols in two days and staying the usual two weeks." Glorfindel looked at Elrond but the Lord was being honest. No matter how much he wanted to throttle the Elf Lord he wasn't going to stop protecting Imladris because Elrond was an idiot. "Fine," he said, defeated and left the room to tell Erestor. Elrond smiled, he had spent two hours rearranging the schedule so Glorfindel left for the borders two months before he was supposed to. But it was undetectable and even Glorfindel had no proof to the contrary. Glorfindel stood at the door and wondered how Erestor would react. His recent mood swings had made Glorfindel extremely wary of the Elf. One moment Erestor was calm and collected, the next he was a sobbing mess or a raging lunatic. He opened the door and was happily relieved to see Erestor sitting at his desk writing. There was a neat pile of torn up parchments at his side. He growled and tore the one he was working as well. "Are you just going to stand there?" Erestor asked without looking up. Glorfindel shut the door and sat down across from Erestor. "What are you writing?" "Nothing," Erestor said, shoving the torn papers into a small basket. "What brings you here?" "I was just speaking to Elrond and it seems I'm leaving on the border patrols in two days." "And?" Erestor asked looking blandly at the elf. "I just thought you would want to know," Glorfindel said now unsure, didn't Erestor care at all? "Oh. See you in two weeks I suppose." "And I was thinking we could go see the tailor today. You have been putting it off for weeks." Erestor looked down at himself. There was no longer any doubt that he was pregnant. He didn't want to admit to Glorfindel that the leggings he was wearing were currently untied and even then still felt tight. "Fine," he said, standing slowly as he still wasn't used to bulge in his body. He wondered how he would fare once he was truly oversized. They walked and Erestor tried to ignore the glares he received as they made their way to the tailor's shop. In the shop the tailor was casually pinning some orange fabric to a wooden form. He turned to the door hearing them enter and smiled. "Glorfindel, Erestor, welcome. Erestor, I've been wondering when you would arrive. Come, come, you have to try what I have for you already. A nice cloak for the cold, some loose leggings, and a few larger robes. They are in the back, marked with your name. If you want to try them on, they are in your usual color scheme of grim and dreary." Erestor nodded and shuffled into the other room. The tailor then focused on Glorfindel. "And what can I do for you? New tunic? Leggings? Robes?" "Hmm? No, I was just bringing Erestor," Glorfindel said watching the door that the other elf had departed through. "Ah, dour isn't he? It's the first time he didn't remind me he's fluent in dwarvish." "Dwarvish?" "It seems our humour clashes. If he even has a humour." "Oh he does," Glorfindel said with a grin. "So I suppose you have first hand experience with it?" The tailor looked at Glorfindel who simply grinned. "Are you…I mean…" "Life would be so much simpler if I was. I have never so much as hugged Erestor." Erestor returned then in a new set of black robes and leggings, carrying the other items. Glorfindel quickly relieved him of his burden. "See was that so hard?" Glorfindel asked as they walked. "What? Hard?" Erestor squeaked wide eyed. Glorfindel couldn't see, he shouldn't be able to see, his stomach saved him from that small shame. He didn't know what was wrong with him, he had no interest in anyone. Yet the slightest shift of his fabric and he was a moment from staining his robes. "Erestor are you alright?" "Fine," Erestor said picking up the pace as he made it to his rooms. "Where should I…" "Just put them in the closet I will arrange them later." "But…" "I just want to take a rest. I will see you at dinner?" Erestor said hoping Glorfindel would go. "Until dinner then," Glorfindel said with a smile and a bow and exited the room. Erestor breathed a sigh of relief as the door shut. He looked down and shook his head. What was wrong with him? He supposed he should deal with it, but the prospect of having to maneuver around his distended belly made it wholly less appealing. Erestor sighed and was about to slip his hands into his untied leggings when the door was pushed open. Erestor quickly removed his hand and smoothed his robes. He looked up and prayed for death on the spot. Elrond was standing there. "Look, I don't have time for this. I have things to do." "Then don't," Erestor whispered. "What? So you can claim I am not taking care of you?" "Who would listen? You said everything was normal, so I will come to you if anything out of the ordinary happens," Erestor said realizing then that those were the most words he had spoken to Elrond in 8 months. Elrond looked at Erestor for a moment but was too frazzled to care what his motives were. Figwit had somehow misplaced a letter from Gloin. Now the Dwarf was fuming and had sent an enraged messenger. He eyed the fallen Elf and tried to think of any gain he could get from no longer seeing him. Elrond could find no reason good or bad for Erestor to stop seeing him. And truth be told, despite the rarity of male pregnancies it seemed to be progressing much like Celebrian's two pregnancies. With a shrug he left the room. Erestor sighed in relief. But no sooner had he decided to try again there was a soft knock at the door. "Erestor?" "Come in," he said shaking his head. When had he become so popular? "Well, Glorfindel told us about him leaving and I was thinking you could stay with Maglin and me for a while." "What?" Erestor asked confused. "You know, move in with us for a few weeks?" "No I am fine here," Erestor said, startled at the request. Did Glorfindel think him some child that needed supervision? "Thank you anyway." "Are you sure? We would like the company." "Yes, I would not be comfortable imposing such." "Alright, good day Erestor." "Goodbye Tella." Erestor stared at the door and waited, sure someone would barge in any minute. At the same time his mind wandered to Glorfindel. The more he thought about it the more annoyed he became. What did Glorfindel think? That he was an invalid? By the time Glorfindel entered the room with dinner he was greeted by a livid Erestor. "Do you think me incapable of caring for my self without the Great Almighty Balrog Slayer bringing me my meals?! Do you think I would wither and die?!" Glorfindel was momentarily stunned. The carrot he had been eating fell to the floor and it took all his warrior training to keep from running screaming from Erestor. He wasn't even sure what the Elf was ranting about. "Do you?!" "Erestor calm down." "Calm down?! I will not be treated as an invalid or a child!" "Erestor please…" "What even made you think I would go live with two Elves I don't even know?" "Its just that…" "What?! Some how I must have forgotten how to take care of my self?" Erestor said panting. "Please calm down, I'm sorry," Glorfindel said eyeing Erestor worriedly. Erestor took a deep breath realizing he had been shouting the entire time. He looked at Glorfindel who was still holding his dinner. "I…" Glorfindel finally decided it would be safe to approach Erestor who seemed strangely subdued. "Are you alright?" "Fine," Erestor whispered feeling like an idiot. "I understand your concern but I do not need to be under constant supervision." "It's simply that I worry about you. You do not seem to do much when alone." "I see. You have to realize I am not wounded, just pregnant. I know you must see me as the younger brother you never had, but I don't need your protection." Glorfindel wanted to scream at the last statement but held it in. He didn't see Erestor as a brother. He shook his head. Their relationship had changed but not in the way he wanted it to. He had no idea what to say next and allowed Erestor to eat. **** "One more week," Elladan said as they made camp in the slopes of the Misty Mountains. "One more week, before I can break that lying Elf in two," Legolas growled as Elrohir tended to the fire. Mani Marte 12 Erestor pulled on the lined cloak that the tailor had provided and wondered if feeling chills were normal in pregnancies. He had never felt the cold this severely before. He would have preferred to stay inside but Tella's constant prodding since Glorfindel had left got him to agree. He had told her to bring him lunch in the gardens and there was no turning back. Pulling the hood over his head, Erestor gathered up his art supplies and made his way to the garden. He had long finished the image of Glorfindel and had no idea what to draw next. He hoped some time outside would inspire him and stop Tella's nagging. ------------- Legolas and the Twins entered Elrond's study and the Twins arched their brows at the sight of Figwit and his troupe. "Ada?" Elrohir called. "Elrohir?!" Elrond's voice exclaimed from the balcony. The trio rushed over to the balcony and Elrond happily hugged his sons as Legolas tried to make himself scarce. "Legolas come here." The Prince did as he was told and was hugged by Elrond as well. "As long as you here you are family." "Thank you Lord Elrond." "Elrond, please." "Ada, why do you have the four nosiest elves in all of Imladris reading your correspondence?" Elladan asked looking towards the other room. "Figwit is the advisor below in rank to Erestor and he couldn't handle the work load. Even now there are mix ups and I spend half the day making sure everything is in order," Elrond said with an annoyed sigh. "Figwit? He is?" Elrohir said. "No wonder he's such a gossip, he has nothing else to do." "Why didn't I know this?" Elrond asked rubbing his temples. The Twins shrugged. "We'll leave you to your work, see you at dinner Ada." Once in the hall Legolas turned to them. "Where is he?" "Hmm, usually he would be at his desk until some unnatural hour. Who are his friends?" Elrohir asked his brother. "Friends? Are we talking about the same Elf? Elrohir, you are the only one who ever liked Erestor. I'm not even sure Ada likes him. He doesn't have friends. I suppose he is in his rooms." ------------------ Erestor lazily watched as the clouds drifted across the sky, his pencil poised in his hand. Imladris was so beautiful, he would be sad when he left it. He decided to draw the scenery, take as much of he place he considered home with him. Even if they would accept him in Lothlorien he couldn't show his face there. Erestor quickly started drawing not wanting to think about what his life would become, all because of this monstrosity that now had a penchant for kicking him. ------------------ Legolas looked around the library and growled in frustration. This was the third place they had been sure Erestor would be and had found nothing. "This is ridiculous, has no one seen this foul, lying Elf?" "We will find him, relax. Let's take a break. He has to go back to his room sometime. Why don't we walk off this excess energy?" Elrohir said, not liking the anger emanating off of Legolas. He actually didn't want to find Erestor. Elladan looked at his brother and shrugged. "Gardens? Then we search again?" "Yes," Elrohir said and Legolas sighed, but decided to follow along. They walked through the gardens, heading towards a slightly secluded section where they would be able to sit and talk in private, when they noticed someone drawing. The person shivered slightly and pulled the cloak they were wearing tighter. The movement caused the trio to get an unblocked view of the artwork and saw it was a drawing of the Last Homely House. They watch for a few minutes as the artist drew. They were about to move on when the artist gasped and the charcoal fell out of his hand as it cramped. The charcoal rolled towards the Twins and Legolas, who quickly picked it up and walked over to the hooded artist. "Here, you are very talented," he said holding out the charcoal. "Thank you Prince Legolas," Erestor replied taking the charcoal. Elrohir inwardly cringed as Legolas' entire demeanour changed. Grabbing Erestor's hand, Legolas twisted it sharply. Erestor gasped in pain as Legolas continued the abuse. "You would dare touch me? You lying pile of filth!" Legolas twisted sharply, breaking Erestor's hand and the Elf screamed in pain. "Legolas!" Elrohir exclaimed rushing to stop Legolas before he did any more. "I know you hate him. But stop, think of the child." Legolas turned to Elrohir as Erestor tried to move off the bench as quietly as possible while clutching his broken limb. He moved backwards away from the pair, watching Elrohir restrain Legolas. He bumped into a third form and didn't have to turn to know it was Elladan. He turned anyway and couldn't believe the hatred aimed towards him. "I never liked you, but this is just depraved. And you call yourself an Elf?" Elladan looked about ready to spit on Erestor who tried to go around the half-elf. Elladan grabbed his broken hand. "You deserve a lot worse than this. Get out of my sight or I will let Legolas finish you off." Erestor screamed again, tears filling his eyes as his legs trembled. Elladan practically tossed him aside and Erestor just barely managed to keep standing. He backed away as Elladan started advancing on him. "Elladan what are you doing?" Elrohir exclaimed as he struggled to restrain Legolas. "Help me!" Elladan turned away from Erestor with a snarl and went to help his brother. Erestor did not spend another moment in the garden and fled to his room sure at any moment he would be overtaken by either the Twins or Legolas. He shut the door to his study and noticed for the first time the door didn't have a lock. He looked around frantically and heard pounding foot steps. He fled into the bathroom, slamming the shut with his good hand and curled up in the furthest corner. Shaking violently he clutched his broken hand to his chest and sobbed. --------------- Elrond reached Erestor's room sure he had figured out why Erestor no longer wanted him to check up on him. "I will not let him harm the child," he thought aloud as he pushed opened the door. He looked about the study and sighed. Where had the Elf gotten to now? He heard the muffled sound of someone sobbing and pushed open the door to the bath. He peered in and saw Erestor huddled in the corner sobbing. Before he could do anything about it the outer door burst open. Elrond pulled the door to the bathroom shut and turned just in time to deflect a blow to the face. He spun his attacker around and twisted their arm forcing them to the ground in a kneeling position. He knew if he twisted slightly harder he would break their arm. He was about to see who his attacker was when his sons burst into the room. "Ada?" "Lord Elrond?!" The kneeling form gasped. "Legolas?" Elrond said confused releasing the prince. "Why did you try and hit me?" "I thought…" Legolas started rubbing his arm. "I was Erestor?" Elrond frowned. He hadn't thought much of his sons sudden appearance so used to them appearing and disappearing for months at a time with the rangers. "How did you know?" "We um…found your letter…" "And you three thought you would beat the truth out of a pregnant Elf? Until that child is born Erestor is under my care. Daily beatings will do him no good. Did you already harm him?" Elrond asked, already knowing the answer from the sobs in the other room. "I…" Legolas started looking down. "His hand," Elrohir supplied. "Alright all of you out. No more beatings, please. What your Father decides to do to punish his lies is no concern of mine. But for now I will bring a healthy elfling into the world." Legolas looked as if he was going to protest and Elrohir, after putting down Erestor's sketch book, nearly dragged him out of the room trailed by Elladan. "What's wrong with you?" Elladan snarled. "What?" Elrohir asked confused. "You don't think I saw you? How nice of you to save his art for him! Why does he need a hand to carry a healthy child? What are you playing at Elrohir?" "I am not playing at anything Elladan," Elrohir said turning away from his brother and was approached by Legolas. "Do you believe him? Is that it? Do you actually think my Father guilty?!" Legolas yelled enraged, shoving Elrohir against the wall. Elrohir shoved Legolas backwards into Elladan. "I am not a weakling like Erestor. Do not think you can bully me!" Elrohir yelled before stomping off. --------------- Elrond stood outside the door hoping that the sobbing would subside. He sighed when it didn't seem to be tapering off anytime soon. He had never seen Erestor cry, let alone sob. Elrond sighed again and pushed open the door. He watched as Erestor's entire body became rigid and he seemed to be trying to become one with the wall. "Erestor!" He said more sharply than he intended. The Elf flinched but slowly turned in his direction. "Come, I will tend to your hand." Elrond quickly went back into the other room hoping Erestor would compose himself as he called a servant and instructed them to gather some binding for the Elf. The servant quickly returned with the binding but Erestor still hadn't emerged from the bathroom. Elrond finally decided to look in on the Elf and saw that with only one hand and pregnant, he couldn't get to his feet. "You could have called for help," Elrond said pulling Erestor up, avoiding his broken hand and leading him to his usual seat. Erestor slowly extended his hand on the desk and Elrond worked in silence. When he was done he created a sling for Erestor. "Do not move it much." Elrond left the room never noticing that Erestor hadn't stopped crying. He sat there alone, in the empty room, and wondered what about his life was worth living. Mani Marte? 13/? Erestor paced his room. It couldn't have been more than two hours since Tella had brought him lunch but hunger was nagging at him. He had gone to the kitchens for snacks before and usually he was ignored, but today Erestor was terrified that the Twins or Legolas would see him and break his other hand. Finally his craving overwhelmed him and he made his way down to the kitchens. Shaking his head at his own silliness, the Twins and Legolas would never spend their time inside. He entered the kitchen and saw that the cooks were already starting to prepare the dinner: a soup of some kind. He carefully gathered a tray of lembas, preserves and some lemons. Erestor was sure that normally he would be disgusted by the strange combination but currently he wanted something sweet and sour. The head cook glanced in his direction, poured him a small bowl of the soup and placed it on the tray. "I would have someone carry it for you but I can't spare any hands right now," the cook said, not wanting to admit anyone other himself and Tella would no doubt spit in Erestor's food out of spite. He, on the other hand, didn't care one way or the other, Erestor was just another mouth to feed. "Hold the tray like this," he added noticing Erestor's one handedness. As Erestor took a moment to perfect his balance the cook added a spoon and a freshly baked sweet cake from a platter and sent Erestor out of the room. "Now off with you or dinner will never be ready," he said waving a wooden spoon with a small smile. Erestor made his way down the hall without any problem and looked up at the daunting, winding staircase. He took a deep breath and slowly started his ascent. He was half way up the staircase pausing for breath when he heard the voices coming down the stairs. He looked about him but knew he couldn't go anywhere. He would never reach the bottom in time and if he tried to run it was most likely that he would fall and snap his neck. Elladan was in the lead followed by Legolas and lastly Elrohir. Erestor cringed as the oldest Peredhil glared at him and took a menacing step towards him. Erestor's hand started to tremble, rattling the tray and its contents. Elladan laughed and continued to walk. Legolas did the same except he 'accidentally' bumped into Erestor causing the tray and the hot soup to spill onto Erestor's good arm. Erestor bit his lip hard enough to draw blood to keep from screaming again. Elrohir stared at Erestor, no discernable expression on his face. "Elrohir!" Elladan snapped and the Elf quickly made it the rest of the way down the stairs. "Stop staring at the fat slut and come on." Elrohir sighed and followed his brother and friend. Erestor shakily made his way up the stairs, still clutching the remains of his snack on the tray. Once inside his room he put the tray down on the desk and made his way to the bath. He carefully slipped his hand out of the sling and pulled at the simple clasp to his robes, letting the soiled material slide off. He looked in the mirror, there were some red splotches on his stomach. Blisters were forming on his arm and Erestor sighed as he took a wash cloth then realized he couldn't clean his arm in the same fashion. Erestor glanced at the tub and sighed. After all the trouble he had had standing the last three days, he wasn't sure he would bath until his hand was healed. Erestor had used the washcloth for the past few days to keep from smelling. Not that he did anything to exert himself. He had stopped going on his walks and going for that snack had been the first time he had left his room since the twins and Legolas had arrived in Imladris. Erestor took one of his old robes and slipped it on then walked over to the tray. The sweet cake had absorbed the soup that had spilled in the tray and would taste horrible. The lembas had done the same but would not taste as bad. He picked up a piece of the soggy lembas and munched until his craving was sated, though he still wanted some preserves. After a moment consideration he took the small jar and the spoon and ate it that way. Yawning Erestor curled up on the chair and wondered how much longer it was until Glorfindel returned. He truly missed the blond warrior and that in itself surprised him. He had taken him for granted while he was here. A knock sounded pulling him out of his thoughts and he tentatively called, "enter." He looked up fearfully and sighed in relief as Glorfindel entered the room. "I'm back my pregnant beauty. Miss me?" "I…" "Of course you did, so what did you do while I was gone?" "I…" "Seemed to have gotten into the preserves," Glorfindel said wiping a bit of red from his chin. "Oh I didn't realize." "I would think not," he said with a chuckle. "Unless you wanted me to clean you up." Glorfindel frowned suddenly. "What happened to your hand?" "I…" "Erestor don't you understand how long I've cared for you? I was sure you had feelings for Ada and not for me." Erestor stared at Glorfindel. "But I…" His words were cut off by a surprise kiss. "Glorfindel," he whispered stunned and was suddenly awakened by a door slamming. Erestor sighed, his dreams continued to get stranger and stranger. Like he could have possibly known Glorfindel's father. He touched his lips, the kiss had felt almost real. 'And why would he want to kiss a pregnant monstrosity? Glorfindel befriends YOU out of pity and YOU know it.' Erestor stood and made his way to his book case. He randomly grabbed a light title and sat back down at the desk. He started reading and realized it was a guide on sword play. He sighed but continued to read, not willing to get up again. Elladan and Legolas exchanged a look and frowned. It shouldn't have taken Elrohir half this long to gather lunch for the three of them. They stood and Elladan lead the way to the kitchens to see where his younger brother had gone. "Yes, Master Elladan. He was here, he asked us to prepare a tray and said he would return in a few moments. That was nearly an hour ago." Elladan shook his head having no idea what Elrohir was up to. Using their bond he searched for his brother and was shocked at the rage that assailed him. What had happened to Elrohir between the kitchen and now? "Come," he said pulling Legolas away from the food as the blond archer devoured sweet cakes. He dragged Legolas to the training field where Elrohir had already sparred two warriors into submission. The third looked about ready to collapse, barely able to deflect Elrohir's raging blows. "Elrohir!" Elladan exclaimed, certain his brother was not in his right mind. He quickly grabbed a training sword and took the grateful challenger's place. Talking to his brother as he tried to disarm him. "'Ro, please stop, talk to me," Elladan shouted over their two swords clashing. "Well?" Legolas said glaring at the warriors who had had their training interrupted by the rampaging half- elf. "Go!" He yelled just as he heard a sword clang to the floor. He turned quickly in case Elladan needed help but sighed relieved when he saw that it was Elrohir who had been disarmed. The young Prince did not stop there though. He swung his fist at Elladan who caught his hand and spun him into a fierce hug. He refused to let go despite Elrohir's initial struggles. Then he heard it. The first gut sob as Elrohir collapsed against Elladan, burying his face in his chest. "What happened?" Elrohir shook his head and continued to sob as the pair sank to their knees. A third form circled behind him stroking his hair, and he smelled the strange yet now familiar scent that was Legolas. "Let's get him inside," Legolas whispered as Elladan carried his brother. Once in the Twins' bedroom Elladan put his brother down noticing he had calmed down. "Will you tell us what happened?" Legolas asked, taking a seat at the bed. "I went to see Erestor." "Why?" Legolas snarled. "I…" "Like him, I know you preferred his lessons to Glorfindel's. What did he say that upset you so?" "Glorfindel," Elrohir muttered. "'Ro you are making no sense what exactly happened?" "I went to his study and he told me to enter. He was sitting on a chair and I told him I wanted to talk to him and I had something very important to say." "What did he say?" Legolas asked. "For a while nothing so I just started to speak. I asked what had happened to him?" "I…" "No, never mind, Erestor. There is something I should have told you ages ago. Do you have any idea how I feel about you?" "I…" "I think I have been in love with you for the last few thousand years. At first I thought it was a childish crush that would pass given enough time. But it never did, even now as you are you beautiful to me. "Oh I didn't realize." "I see that now. Please if you tell me the truth, I'm sure I can convince Ada to reinstate you. All you have to do is say yes. Please Erestor." "I…" "Erestor don't you understand how long I've cared for you? I was sure you had feelings for Ada and not for me." "'Ro you didn't," Elladan said shaking his head. "I did and then I kissed him." "Elrohir!" Legolas exclaimed. "What went wrong?" Elladan asked. "He wouldn't take back his lie?" "When I pulled away he whispered Glorfindel's name. Apparently I had bored him so much he fell asleep and was dreaming of kissing Glorfindel," Elrohir said with disgust. "Just when I think he can not sink any lower…he will pay," Elladan said. "I don't care," Elrohir growled. "He can go die for all I care." Mani Marte 14 Elladan woke first the next morning. He and Legolas had sandwiched Elrohir, though his twin seemed more angry than upset. He carefully slipped out of Elrohir's arms and looked to see if Legolas was awake. The blond prince smiled at him and he returned the smile. "I'll be right back," he whispered kissing Elrohir on the brow. "Don't I get a kiss?" Legolas asked. Elladan smiled and gave him a peck on the cheek before he strolled out of the room. Legolas sighed and started tracing circles on Elrohir's bare stomach. He had a feeling the twins slept naked when he wasn't about. His hand slipped lower and Legolas grinned, Elrohir had a morning erection. This would be fun. ****** Elladan slunk about the halls, knowing his father would be aggravated if he knew where he was going. He pushed open the door to Erestor's bedroom but the bed was already made. He was about to go into the study when he heard a splash. He turned to the door to the bathroom and pushed the door slightly. Erestor was bathing, he watched as his entire head went under water and waited. But Erestor didn't pull his head back up. Elladan was confused to what Erestor was doing until the Elf's head suddenly shot up. He was gasping for breath and shook his head. "I should explain," he muttered to himself. "And I suppose you deserve a chance to live after all the damage you caused." Elladan's eyes widened as he stared into the bath. Erestor was planning to *kill* himself? "It is not as if I have done anything useful with my life. Or there is someone who will miss me," Erestor muttered as he struggled to stand with one hand and his oversized belly. Elladan watched, wondering if he should help when Erestor shakily managed to get to his feet using his arm and good hand on a corner of the pool. Elladan turned, no longer having any desire to attack Erestor for what he said to his brother. He was about to slip out when he heard a splash followed by a moan. He rushed back to the bath to find Erestor floating in the water and a horrifying pinkish halo forming around his head. He carefully pulled the Elf out of the water, grabbed a towel and placed it under his head to stop the bleeding then ran out of the room. He was out of breath when he pounded on his father's door. A very dishevelled, half asleep Elrond opened the door for his frantic son. "Elladan? What time is it?" Elrond asked with a yawn. "Ada hurry! It's horrible," Elladan exclaimed pulling on Elrond's arm through the halls. "Did some thing happen to Elrohir or Legolas?" "No, they are still in bed," Elladan said dragging Elrond into Erestor's chambers. "Elladan what were you doing in here?" Elladan ignored the question and pushed opened the door to the bathroom. "Elladan what happened?" "I'm not sure, I came to…and then I just watched him stand…I was leaving when I heard the noise." Elrond nodded and started examining Erestor. "Where did you find him?" "Here…" "No, was he in the water or on the ground?" Elrond asked while working to stop the bleeding. "In the water." "Good, then the child may still be fine," Elrond said. "In his study there should be some binding. Bring it to me." Elladan quickly went into the other room and wondered if he should tell his father what he had heard. "You are just so much trouble," Elrond said to Erestor's unconscious form. "Can't you even bathe properly? Or was this another ploy for attention gone wrong?" Elladan froze at the door, he had never heard his father sound so cruel and cold to anyone. If someone had asked him he would have said it wasn't possible. But here he was full of malice for an unconscious, pregnant elf. "Ada? Here," he whispered entering the room. "Thank you son." "I think the child is fine. Look, it's kicking," Elladan said as lumps formed and disappeared on Erestor's stomach. "Good, help me get him up. We should put him in bed." Together Elrond and Elladan carried Erestor into his bed room and placed him into the made bed. Elladan pulled the blanket over Erestor. "I should get back to Elrohir and Legolas," Elladan said. "How do you two feel about Legolas?" "He is a sweet Elf. It's too bad we are not attracted to him as he is us." Elrond arched his brow. "Really now?" "Well more Elrohir, but he seems fine with us just wanting to be friends. He likes teasing Elrohir though." "Teasing how?" "Umm…" Elladan said starting to blush as they left Erestor's chambers. "Uh." "Ahh, I see…" Elrond said as they reached the twins room. "Well I should…" Elrond never finished his sentence as a shriek erupted from the Twin's room. Elrond and Elladan burst into the room and froze. They could see nothing wrong. Elrohir and Legolas were still in bed together, both with their backs to the door, Legolas spooned behind Elrohir. What Elrond and Elladan couldn't see was the mortified expression on Elrohir's face or what Legolas' had was doing to said mortified Elf. "I told you you'd feel better," Legolas murmured. "I told you to stop," Elrohir hissed in response. "Did you enjoy it or not?" Legolas asked and Elladan buried his face in Elrond's chest to muffle his laughter as Elrond smiled at the scene. "That's not the point…I mean…ARG!" "Elrohir…" "What?" The half-elf snapped annoyed. "You're still in my arms." Elrohir moaned and flopped onto his back. Legolas draped a leg over him. "Still in the bed, still half naked," Legolas said as Elrohir pulled the sheet over himself and shoved Legolas' leg away. "Why don't you just kiss me and get it over with?" Legolas asked. Elrond could not hold it in any longer and burst out laughing. Both Elrohir and Legolas snapped towards the Elf Lord and Elladan who was doubled over in laughter. "How long have you two been there?" Elrohir mumbled climbing out of bed as Legolas turned beet red. "Long enough," Elrond said laughing. "I'll see you three at breakfast," he said strolling out, shaking his head at how similar father and son were. "I can't leave you two alone for a moment," Elladan said with a grin. "I'm going to bathe," Elrohir said in annoyed tone. "That sounds good," Legolas replied. "Alone," he growled shutting the door. "Seriously Legolas," Elladan started taking a seat next to the Elf. "What are your intentions with my little brother?" ****** Erestor moaned as his eyes returned to focus. His head was throbbing. He tried to sit up and a sharp shooting pain in his arm stopped him. Remembering his broken arm, albeit a bit to late, he carefully brought himself to a sitting position and looked around him. "No…no…no…no…no…" he moaned as he started to shake. This wasn't happening, this was some kind of nightmare, he thought as his heart started racing. He had to get out of there. Erestor tried to get out of the bed but his leg decided that was a good moment to cramp up. He started hyperventilating and when he looked at the door he was sure his heart was about to stop. The blond Elf marched purposefully towards the bed and Erestor wheezed clawing at his chest. "Erestor! You need to breathe, what's wrong?" "Glor…." Erestor wheezed. "Yes, slow deep breaths," Glorfindel whispered, stroking Erestor's back as he continued to wheeze. Glorfindel waited patiently and took in Erestor's injuries. His hand and head seemed injured and there were small blisters on his arm. Before he could even begin to ask Erestor what had happened he started sobbing. Holding onto Glorfindel for dear life. "I'm sorry…" he whimpered. "I didn't mean to…I'm sorry…" Erestor continued to repeat over and over again. Glorfindel just sat there allowing him to sob his eyes out. "It's alright," he whispered despite he fact that he had no idea what Erestor was talking about. "Shh it will be okay." Mani Marte 15 Erestor blinked and looked about him. He was sitting in his chair. "Glorfindel?" He called quietly. There was no response and Erestor sighed. /Just another stupid dream/ he thought. Glorfindel had five days until he returned, unless he could no longer tell the passage of time. Erestor looked around yet again, he felt strangely disoriented. He shivered slightly and pulled the blanket tossed on the back of the chair around himself as best he could with one hand. Shifting to his side he attempted to go back to sleep. The prospect of doing anything seeming overwhelming. Maybe if he was lucky he would dream about Glorfindel again. Erestor snorted in disgust and sat up. Was this was what his life had become, hoping to dream of an Elf who pitied him? He sure would make his family proud: a shunned, unwedded, pregnant Elf. Why did he insist on tormenting himself? ******* Glorfindel looked at the vast expanse of the area he and the guards were at this day and sighed. Five days until he could see Erestor again. He knew he could not risk another trip like the one he had just taken. But he had never ignored his instincts and they had been nagging him for days to go and see Erestor. He had waited for the most opportune moment. When the patrols were closest to The Last Homely House and his disappearance would have raised the least amount of questions and presented the least amount of danger to the Elves. As it was, Magelin was the only one who even knew he had been gone for half a day. What he had found was just disturbing. After he had calmed the hysterical Elf he had dressed Erestor in a robe, trying his best not to peek, and placed him in the chair he usually slept in. He had a feeling that he knew where it had happened now. "But how did they get into your room, is the question. Did you invite them? Did they follow you?" Glorfindel muttered aloud. Magelin crept up beside him. "How did it go?" "His arm is broken and he has a head injury. He was in the midst of pure terror when I found him. Oh, and there are the burns." "What? How did all that happen in less than a fortnight?" "I wish I knew, but I couldn't stay. Thank you for this." "Now aren't you glad I switched with Laieth? Who else could have them believe you were 'watching how they react without supervision' and that it was supposed to be a secret." Glorfindel laughed, "Is that what you told them?" "Well of course My Lord, it's the truth after all," Magelin said with an exaggerated bow. ******** "He scares me when he does this," Elrohir whispered to Legolas. "Its strange yes, I would expect such of you." "Oh thanks," Elrohir muttered smacking Legolas' arm. The two continued to watch Elladan as he finished off a five page letter. He folded it and sealed it with the Twins personal seal. He smiled as he remembered receiving it. They had driven their father and Erestor mad sealing everything in sight for weeks. He then started work on a second letter this on only a page in length then handed it over to Elrohir. Elrohir took a seat beside his brother and started writing. Legolas sighed and crossed his arms. "Who are you two writing to?" "Arwen," Elladan said as Elrohir finished off the letter. "I'll be right back," Elrohir said taking both letters and leaving the library. He walked to his father's study and hovered over Figwit and his gaggle. He had to clear his throat twice so he could get their attention. "Lord Elladan," Figwit started and Elrohir rolled his eyes. "When do the next messengers leave for 'Lorien?" "We do that?" Figwit asked exchanging a look with the other Elves. "You have the list, the messengers send it to you every few months…ugh…Ada!" Elrohir said turning to the other office and he blinked as he pushed open the door. He shut it in the faces of the useless elves. "You know I never realized you had a door to this office, I always thought it was one room." "I never had a reason to close the door before," Elrond said shaking his head. "What can I do for you Elrohir?" "Elladan and I wrote to Arwen and," Elrohir glanced at the other letter. "Grandmother and Grandfather. I just wanted to know when the next messenger would leave." "And they couldn't even tell you that? I'm sorry, could you visit the messengers? And bring me a copy of the list before I kill those Elves?" "Yes, Ada," Elrohir said with a smile. "Where's Glorfindel? He usually cheers you up." "Border patrol," Elrond muttered. "Oh, I'll be back Ada." Elrohir returned a few minutes later with a frown. He went directly into his father's study and placed the list down. "Something wrong?" "Well there have been more attacks on the 'Lorien paths so the messengers decreased their travels. To one every month or so excluding emergencies." "That does not seem so bad," Elrond said. "They left yesterday, didn't we use to have announcements when the messengers changed their schedule so drastically?" "Erestor did that." "What about those 4?" "Combined they can just barely do half the work Erestor did in a day in a week," Elrond said. "Ada would you like some help?" "No I have to get used to them, they will be my advisors until we decide to leave Arda. But enough of this. Elrohir, how do you feel about Legolas? This morning…" "I do not like him in that way, he just doesn't take no for an answer. Well I didn't put up much of a fight but…" "Elrohir if you encourage him he will just become bolder. Though it would be a good match." "Ada! I feel for him like I feel for Elladan, it just cannot be more." Elrond smiled. "Fine, you should go enjoy yourself before I take you up on your offer." ****** Erestor stared at his book shelf and sighed. He had actually read everything he had never had the time to before. Most of the other books were reports and maps, along with habits and customs of other peoples and races. And it wasn't as if he needed to brush up on his diplomacy. But did he really dare to go to the library? The main library was bound to be crowded. But, if he went to the dusty extension on the second level he should be fine. Just a few moments walking past scribes who ignored him anyway. He carefully went into his room wondering why he wasn't wearing leggings and pulled a pair on along with boots. Shivering, he made his way to the library. Feeling the cold had to be one of the most aggravating parts of his pregnancy. Erestor pushed open the door to the library and froze. Legolas was not two feet in front of him, talking to Elladan who looked directly at him. He pulled the door shut and staggered backwards. He couldn't possibly go in there and he was sure any moment Elladan would come out with Legolas to torment him. He turned to flee back to his room and was face to face with Elrohir. Elrohir looked Erestor over, and felt all his anger returning. This outcast, a freak of an Elf had had the nerve to belittle his confession. Without a thought to Erestor's pregnancy, his broken hand or the bandages wrapped around his head, Elrohir punched Erestor in the face. Erestor howled clutching his nose that started to bleed freely. He supposed from the pain radiating from it that it was broken. "And you got mad when I broke his hand?" Legolas asked stepping out to see what all the commotion was along with Elladan and a few scribes. "I think you made it cry," Legolas said looking at the departing form of Erestor. "Aren't the healers that way?" Elladan asked as Erestor made his way to the stairs. "As if they would treat that thing," one scribe said as they turned to go back to their work. "Wait then who does?" Elladan asked. "Lord Elrond. He's too kind to that monster if you ask me," the scribe replied and went back to work. ****** Erestor made it to his room with little more than some evil glares. He pushed the door open and saw Tella with a tray. She put both hands to her mouth and gasped when she saw the state Erestor was in. She rushed into the bathroom, returned with a hand towel and ushered Erestor to a seat. "Now tilt your head back, just like that. I'll be right back." Tella returned with a bowl of ice, placed some in another towel and carefully tied it shut. After checking to make sure the bleeding stopped, she placed it on his face. "It will help ease the pain and stop the swelling." "Thank you," Erestor whispered. "Now do you mind telling me who would break the nose of a pregnant Elf?" "Elrohir," Erestor whispered. "But he's such a nice boy." "My very presence offends everyone. I suppose I am stubborn, but I have learned my lesson." "What do you mean?" "I will not leave my rooms again, until it is when I leave Imladris or give birth I suppose." "You can't mean that, you'll waste away in here." "As opposed to being broken one bone at a time?" "But Erestor…" "Thank you for the meal and your help. But I would like to be alone now," Erestor whispered. Tella nodded and left the room, wishing she could do more for Erestor. Chapter 16 Elrond frowned looking at Erestor's injuries. His face was one large bruise, his hand was still broken and the gash in his head had barely started to close. "Your injuries should be far more healed than this. Your hand should be fine, are you sure you did not re injure it?" "Quite sure," Erestor said dully. "Erestor you will receive no sympathy from me by injuring yourself." "I did not ask for sympathy," Erestor whispered. Elrond ignored the comment and finished replacing the bandages he had hoped to remove today. "I will return tomorrow," Elrond said with a sigh. He walked out of the room and shook his head. The border patrols returned today and he didn't have the energy to deal with an enraged Glorfindel. He walked back to his study wondering if anything else could happen to make matters worse. He opened the door and shook his head, he just had to ask. Quickly pulling off his outer robe he smothered the flames. "Lord Elrond…we…" Figwit started. "I don't even want to know," he said leaving the office with the scorched remains of his favourite blue robe in his hands. ****** Glorfindel whistled to himself as he got out of his first proper bath in two weeks. Tying a towel around his waist he walked into his room and started combing his tangled hair. He dressed in a light green tunic and darker green leggings and made his way to Erestor's room. He knocked lightly on the door before pushing it open. His smile faded from his face as he saw Erestor's black and blue features. He rushed over to the Elf and took his face in his hands. Looking at him closely he also noticed the bags under his eyes and the lifeless grey eyes. "Erestor who broke your nose?" "Oh, Elrohir," Erestor said quietly. "And your hand?" "Legolas." "And I suppose Elladan gave you the head injury?" "No I fell in the bath," Erestor said quietly. Glorfindel sighed and enveloped Erestor in a hug. Erestor didn't react to the hug and Glorfindel looked at the Elf who was staring blankly ahead. "Erestor are you alright?" "Just tired," the Elf whispered. "Get some rest. Shall I come see you later?" Glorfindel asked. "That will be fine," Erestor whispered. Glorfindel nodded and left the room. It seemed as if in two weeks all the life had been sucked out of Erestor. And he knew who he had to thank for it. "Glorfindel! Welcome home! You know I don't think you've ever met…" Elladan's words were silenced when Glorfindel slapped Elrohir. "You…hit…you hit me!" Elrohir exclaimed shocked. "I should break your nose." "Is this about that lying whore?" Legolas snarled, though he shirked back with one glare from the enraged Balrog slayer. "Little boy, do not push me. I would not feel one ounce of grief to mar that pretty little face of yours." "I'm not afraid of you," Legolas said defiantly and Elladan pulled him away. "You should be," he whispered to the blond as a still stunned Elrohir followed behind them. Glorfindel considered following the Twins and Legolas but beating on children, no matter how much they deserved, it did not appeal to him. Instead he made his way to the kitchens. Erestor needed cheering up and, if he was anything like Celebrian when she had been pregnant with Arwen, sweets would do the trick. He rolled up his sleeves and after a few quick words from the cook started preparing his favourite snack from Gondolin. Glorfindel was no fool, inwardly he knew that this was no pregnant depression. Celebrian had shown these signs as well after being violated by orcs. He just hoped this could be the first step in pulling Erestor back from the darkness. Mandos was a cold, lonely place Erestor did not deserve. He filled a carafe with milk and hoped Erestor would enjoy the drink. Almost as an afterthought he slipped outside the house and picked a large red rose. Using his dagger he carefully freed it of thorns. Placing this last thing on the tray he carefully made his way up Erestor's room. He entered the room and his heart skipped a beat seeing Erestor lying there with his eyes shut. "Erestor?!" Glorfindel cringed as the pregnant Elf started and seemed to be searching for an exit before his eyes settled tiredly on Glorfindel and relaxed slightly. "I'm sorry, your eyes were closed…for a moment I thought…" "I was dead? Not yet apparently," Erestor said as Glorfindel put down the tray. "Erestor, do you wish for death?" "Why should I wish for life?" "Death is a cold and lonely place, with naught but yourself and emptiness for comfort." "And how is that so different from my life now Glorfindel? At least there I would not fear loss of limb," Erestor said picking up a small pastry and biting into it. "What is this?" "Do you approve?" "Yes, but what is it?" "My favourite treat from Gondolin. I thought you might enjoy it," Glorfindel whispered tucking Erestor's hair behind his ears as he took another pastry. "You made this?" "Yes I did, it is one of the few things I can make," Glorfindel said pouring a glass of milk for Erestor. "Have it with this, they compliment each other well." Erestor took the glass and drank the cool liquid down. He put the glass down and lifted another pastry. He held it out to the Elf and Glorfindel smiled. "They are for you." "And I can do with them what I will," Erestor said continuing to hold the pastry out. Glorfindel grinned and with a sudden bout of courage took it from Erestor's hand with his teeth and swallowed it whole. Erestor stared at his hand and finally just picked up another pastry, not sure what to make of Glorfindel's action. He didn't understand it, Glorfindel's very presence had lightened the dark mood he had been in. No wonder he haunted his dreams so. "Erestor, about before, when I found you in your bed, what had…" "What? You were on patrol…you were really here?" "Yes I snuck off in the dead of night. I was worried about you." Glorfindel watched intrigued as a blush touched Erestor's pale cheeks and then his hair descended to fall as a curtain to hide him from Glorfindel's view. "I…I…I just couldn't be there." "Would you like to come stay in my rooms? I'm surprised you can deal with having to go in there to dress." "Your rooms?" "Yes I have a lovely divan, much more comfortable than this thing. I've slept on worse." "I don't understand," Erestor started. "Do you actually think I would take the bed? Besides my room has a lovely balcony." "So does mine," Erestor said looking at Glorfindel. "Where?" Glorfindel asked with disbelief. "Behind the armoire," Erestor said with an almost imperceptible smile. "And why did you do that?" "It over looked the grand view of the kitchen's rubbish heap." Glorfindel chuckled. "It's that close to the house?" "Only until the servants take it away, but its scent remains. Imagine a day when the house is served fish." Glorfindel wrinkled his nose in disgust. "So is that a yes?" "Why are you doing this?" Erestor whispered. "You still do not know? Erestor I thought it was obvious. I l…like you a great deal and staying here must be pure torment. I can't believe I didn't suggest it sooner." "You did suggest staying with Tella," Erestor said with an air of irritation. "Not my finest moment I know. But will you come?" Erestor thought about it and sighed. "I suppose." "Good, Let's go." "What? Now?" "Yes, I'll come get your things afterwards. It will give you time to get acquainted with your new quarters." Glorfindel helped Erestor to his feet and started leading him to the door. "Wait," Erestor said, taking the plate of pastries then returning to Glorfindel's side who smiled at the act. He took the plate from Erestor and slipped his arm into Erestor's good one. Glorfindel noticed the death grip Erestor had on his limb tightened every time footsteps approached and he walked looking down at the floor but did not comment on it. What had happened to the cold, overbearing Elf that even he had feared? Whatever had given Erestor his courage seemed to have withered and died as his belly grew. Glorfindel wondered if there was a way he could remedy this as well as help Erestor overcome the grief that was slowly consuming him. He pushed open the door to his own 'study' and smiled at Erestor. "Welcome to your new home." Erestor looked about the room and shook his head. "This is suppose to be a study Glorfindel." "It is, there are some books right there," Glorfindel said, pointing to the bottom shelf of a bookcase filled with dusty books. The rest of the book case was filled with random odds and ends, some things Erestor could not even recognize. There were also various weapons strewn about. But despite the careless fashion that they looked thrown about they all seemed well cared for. Especially in comparison with the books. Glorfindel lead him through his so called study to his bedroom. Lavish seemed inadequate to describe the bed. Silks and furs, and excess of pillows, the entire thing seemed utterly divine. "What can I say," Glorfindel whispered to Erestor. "I spoil my self." He whispered nudging the Elf to the bed. "I couldn't…this is your bed." "And I wouldn't want any Elf in it. But you are not just any Elf. I would like to believe we are friends. You know there is only one other elf I ever made that treat for." "Elrond…" "Pfft! That Elf knows nothing of a good treat. Celebrian, now there was a woman who enjoyed me slaving in the kitchen," Glorfindel grinned when he realized he had gotten another near smile from Erestor. "I'll be back with your clothes." "Thank you." Glorfindel went to Erestor's rooms and was surprised when he heard a voice in the room. He put his ear to the door and growled. He opened the door and had Legolas by the throat before the Elf could react. He slammed him into Erestor's book case, ignoring the Elf's struggles. "Little Prince, if I find you within 100 feet of Erestor your father will have to go about finding a new heir," Glorfindel released Legolas who wheezed for breath. "Do I make myself clear?" "Crystal." The door burst open then and a frantic Elladan came charging in. "Legolas! You can't hurt him!" "I didn't," he snarled. "He's not even here." Legolas said leaving the room rubbing his neck. Elladan didn't follow Legolas out and just stared at Glorfindel. The blond, for his part, resisted the urge to slap Elladan as well, though he seemed to be the only one of the three who had some sense left. "Um…Glorfindel…" "Elladan it is taking a lot of discipline not to hit you so speak quickly." "He tried to kill himself…" Elladan said softly. "What?! How do you know this?" "I was there…" "Explain yourself." Elladan quickly explained the scene in the bath and what had happened to Erestor's head. Glorfindel just listened silently, stunned at the extent Erestor's sadness went. He didn't know whether to be relieved or mortified that Elladan had been there. "Did you tell Elrond this?" "Why would I?" Elladan muttered. "Maybe there's hope for your family yet," Glorfindel said standing. "Now if you wouldn't mind I have some packing to do. And I do mean it, that blond whelp and your brother had better not go near Erestor. As a matter of fact neither should you." "But he can tell us apart…" "And have you been so kind that he will believe you do not despise him?" Elladan looked off to the side catching sight of Erestor's sketch book. He shook his head and left the room. Chapter 17 Glorfindel buttoned his tunic as he watched Erestor sleep. The shut eyes unnerved him but Glorfindel hoped, in time, it would pass. Maybe it was partially because of all his injuries, serious healing sleeps often resulted in closed eyes. The Sun was just starting to rise and he couldn't believe he had ever had anything that looked that good sprawled out in his bed. Erestor looked so peaceful that he would give almost anything to walk over and wake him with a kiss. Laying on his side, Erestor has shifted enough that his robe had ridden up to halfway up his leg and Glorfindel wondered if Erestor ever went out in the Sun. "No wonder its so easy to see him blush," Glorfindel said softly as he wished the robe would ride up more. Just as quickly as it came the thought vanished with guilt. That was just what Erestor needed: to wake to find Glorfindel leering at him like some prize. He went into his 'study' and after getting some parchment and a quill from his desk he wrote a quick note to Erestor. 'Off to morning training see you at lunch. Make yourself at home and be sure to eat. –G' He carefully placed the note next to Erestor on his bed and walked out in an especially good mood. Stopping off at the kitchen he told Tella of Erestor's relocation. "About time. So he took it well?" "Took what well? The move? Its only been one night. He was asleep when I arrived with all his things." "No, you telling him your feelings." "I didn't do that, Tella. Erestor does not need to hear that. He's slipping fast." "Which is exactly why he needs your support." "As a friend. He can not take much more than that in his condition. I do not want him for one moment to believe I am doing this for him to return my feelings, or that I expect something for allowing him to stay in my rooms. When this mess is over, maybe." Tella stared at Glorfindel silently and finally broke out in a smile. "To think this is the same Elf that had the "brilliant" idea to ask Erestor if he had been violated why was he not fading." Glorfindel smiled weakly. "Have pity on me, I am just a simple minded male Elf." "Not that simple I assure you, must be something about the noble blood that makes them fools." "But do you forget my dear? I'm a Lord in my own right." "Woe to us all if you ever took charge," Magelin said as he took an apple on his way out. Glorfindel swatted in the direction of his friend and smiled at Tella as he left. ***** Erestor woke with a content sigh, he had never been so comfortable. He was surrounded by warmth and a scent that he couldn't place that, in his dreamy state that made him feel safe. A feeling he was no longer used to. Cracking open one eye he saw what looked like parchment much too close to him. He picked it up and sighed at Glorfindel's message. Though the more he woke the more he hurt. The dull throb that was his hand greeted him as he turned to lie flat on his back and reaching his hand to see the progress made on his nose he winced at the pain. Trying to distract himself from his hurts, he let his mind wander. 'Breakfast.' The idea sounded good to him and that thing in his stomach that started to kick up a storm. "Be still you parasite, I will feed you soon enough," Erestor muttered, rubbing his belly. Looking round a thought occurred to him: how exactly was he supposed to do that? How would Tella even know where to find him? If she didn't Glorfindel would be back before lunch. He would only have to spend part of the day hungry. The knock on the door startled him and he decided there was no way he was answering Glorfindel's door. Maybe the person would go away if there was no answer. Who would invade Glorfindel's private rooms? "Erestor?" Erestor let out an audible sigh of relief recognizing the voice. Carefully making his way out of the bed and into the 'study' he saw Tella with a tray. "I didn't think you knew," Erestor said softly. "Lord Glorfindel told me moments ago, he cares deeply for you." "I think he just does not know when to quit." "What do you mean?" "Never mind," Erestor said sitting on the divan. He couldn't believe Glorfindel slept on this, though it did feel more comfortable than his own makeshift bed. Tella frowned but remained silent, not wishing to pry into Erestor's life. Though she did have the urge to beat Glorfindel over the head with a tray. Love was the one thing that Erestor really needed. ***** Elrond entered Erestor's chambers and looked around. Leave it to Erestor to not be the one place he always was when he had no time for it. Casting a quick glance into the bath he saw he wasn't there either. He stepped into Erestor's bedroom and would have given up if he didn't notice the apparent emptiness of his armoire. "Oh he wouldn't dare!" Elrond growled marching off to the one Elf he knew would have organized Erestor's escape plan. And with those injuries…they would believe whatever lie he fed them. Why hadn't he thought to warn Celeborn and Galadriel sooner? In a flurry of burgundy Elrond angrily made his way to the training grounds, knowing it was where Glorfindel spent most of his mornings. The blond Lord was walking about sparring pairs correcting stances, pointing out weaknesses, and jesting all the while. "How dare you!" He snarled pulling on Glorfindel's arm. Only years of training kept Glorfindel from taking Elrond's head off. "How dare I what? Train the new guards?" Glorfindel asked shrugging off Elrond's arm. He dismissed the small group with a wave of his arm and crossed his arms. "So what almighty crime did I commit now?" "You have no idea, how convenient." "What…oh, he should have never been there in the first place." "So you admit, blatantly deifying me." "Blatantly…Elrond I think that circlet is too tight, Legolas should be happy I left him intact." "Legolas?! What are you blathering about?" Elrond asked. "Legolas breaking into Erestor's room to do Valar knows what to an Elf who has taken up sleeping with his eyes closed. What are you talking about?" "Erestor! How did you smuggle him out of Imladris?" "Must everything be a grand conspiracy with you? Glorfindel asked and shook his head. "Follow me before you jump to any more foolish conclusions." Glorfindel stalked up to the house not looking back once to see if he was being followed. He made his way to his own room. Opening the door he found Erestor lifelessly picking at a breakfast of fruit, bread, and preserves. Elrond marched in right behind him. "Why are you here?" Erestor sighed and put down the slice of apple he had been holding for the last few minutes. He turned to Elrond and Glorfindel and shrugged. "Ask him." "What? You have taken to housing this liar?" Elrond snapped at Glorfindel, who was clearly seconds away from snapping the Peredhil in two. He took a step away from the blond and towards Erestor. "I will share my room with who ever I please. My personal life is none of your concern," Glorfindel said icily. One look at the Elf and Elrond bit back his retort. He turned to Erestor instead, closing the distance between them with a single stride. He pulled out a small jar, and placed it beside the food. "Use this on your face to ease the pain and lessen the bruising," he said simply then walked out. "You frighten him," Erestor said quietly, eyeing the jar. "He should be, that old arse of an Elf," Glorfindel said picking up the jar and warming some of the cold cream between his fingers. Carefully tilting Erestor's head he applied it to the bruises and his nose with feather light touches. Once done he smiled. "It should be less painful to eat now." "How did you…" "I've broken my nose Erestor, not in a long time but I remember." Erestor nodded and had to admit that a cool numb feeling was occurring on his face. Picking up the apple slice he was able to bite into it without wincing. Glorfindel took a seat, realizing that Elrond had ruined the training sessions he had until after lunch when he worked with the advance guards. That's if he went at all. He knew they would work without him. It was the younger ones who assumed if he was not there they did not have to be there as well. He would let Erestor decide that for him. "I thought you weren't returning until lunch?" "Elrond came pounding in like some orc, claiming I had smuggled you out of Imladris to Valar knows where." "Out of…" Erestor shook his head. Where would he go really? Celeborn and Galadriel were Elrond's family and Galadriel had known about his attraction. She had not been pleased though she had never really said anything. But who needed words with one glare from the Lady of the Golden Wood? "Erestor," Glorfindel started taking the Elf's good hand, he waited until he had his full attention. "You know if you ask it of me I will come with you. I don't care to where, I never want you to believe you are alone in this." Erestor stared at Glorfindel and could see the sincerity in the clear blue eyes. At the same time his mind flashed to the many times he had seen Glorfindel and envied him for the life he lead full of laughter and joy despite his dangerous occupation. "I would never ask you to give up everything for me. I could not do that." "It would be a small sacrifice." "Your home, your friends, your duty, everything you have worked for. Do not lie to me. Can you tell me you could give that all up knowing you could never return?" Glorfindel blinked for a moment and Erestor smiled ruefully. "I have none of these things to lose, my duty was stripped away and I was never anything else." "You could begin anew…" Erestor shook his head. "The truly pitiful thing about me, is even after all this I want to stay. If by some miracle I was offered my position again I would take it. It was the one thing I ever enjoyed. It helped me forget that there was nothing else. Why would you want to give up your life for a wretch like me?" "Because…because I would," Glorfindel said and placed a small kiss to Erestor's forehead. He slipped out of the room before he could make a confession he would regret. Erestor sat in shock, why had Glorfindel done that? The Elf had actually kissed him! Kissed him! Erestor's hand unconsciously touched the skin of his forehead, sure it was tingling never realizing the sides of his lips were curving into a grin or that his heart was beating impossibly fast. Chapter 18 Elrond was still a vessel of pent up rage as he stormed off to his office. He decided to write that letter to Celeborn and Galadriel right away. If Erestor continued to live this lie then he would have nowhere to run. Erestor wasn't a fool. Elrond had to give his advisor credit. He had some how weaselled his way into Glorfindel's rooms and Elrond had a good feeling how. Though the very thought of it made his skin crawl. Erestor had never been very attractive to begin with, and now add his freakish child bearing and weight gain. How had that thing seduced Glorfindel? He cringed when he suddenly got a mental image of it. "I have to stop this before I make myself ill. Erestor living with Glorfindel, will this madness never end?" Figwit, who was standing at the door trying to figure out how to break it to Elrond they had neglected a Hobbit family visiting for a few days and that they were now eating a hole in Imladris' food supply, spun on his heel glad Elrond had in his rage not shut the door. He pulled it shut quietly and rushed back to his desk. "Boys you won't believe this one…" Elrond wrote a quick letter to his parents-in-law, not noticing in his rage he made barely veiled hints that it was all their fault for saddling him with Erestor in the first place. Sealing the letter he decided to take it to the messengers himself, adding it to the pile from his sons. Knowing his luck Figwit would mistake it as incoming correspondence and read it. ***** Glorfindel made his way to the gardens just barely keeping from banging his head against the wall he passed. How could he have done such a thing to Erestor? He wouldn't be surprised if the Elf was back to his rooms after the stunt he just pulled. What would he have done if he had told Erestor he loved him? The poor Elf would have never believed him, thinking it to be something else born out of pity. Erestor needed to be himself first. Not some shadow of what he used to be. He wanted Erestor to do this for the right reasons as well. He would happily spend the rest of his life with the moody Elf. He smiled to himself as he thought about Erestor, the Elf had found a place even deeper in his heart then he had been before. Once Erestor was fully healed in body and spirit he would tell him. Maybe if he was truly lucky the Elf would not bring up the kiss if he didn't either. He could play dumb. It may work, until he distracted Erestor from that topic. Smiling to himself, Glorfindel sat for a few minutes longer, collecting himself, and trying to get control on his out of control feelings for Erestor. Slips like that could not possibly help the Elf. ****** Erestor shook his head as the shock of what Glorfindel had done wore off. He must be going mad, thinking that just because Glorfindel had kissed him on the forehead the Elf had meant anything by it. Had he not seen Glorfindel kiss the Twins the same way dozens of times? Why would Glorfindel even want to touch such a thing as he? An abnormality that could bear children and had nothing to show for his immortal life. The Elf had most likely left to clean off his mouth after touching the foul thing he had become. Deciding that even if he was welcome here, it did not mean he could take advantage of Glorfindel so he decided to curl up on the divan and take a nap. He felt like such a sloth of a creature, always so tired and weak. Shutting his eyes he wondered if it was the pregnancy or his injuries that drained him such. When Erestor next woke he was nestled between silks and furs. There was no sign of Glorfindel but another note was on the pillow. "This is yours, the divan is mine! –G Also, eat!" Erestor sighed and put the note aside. This was just plain foolishness. And why had he not woken when Glorfindel touched him? He could not allow such. He should go back to his rooms, they were only down the hall. Opening the door he slammed it shut instantly. But that didn't deter the Elves. "So it is true, how did you do it? You actually got a strong, handsome bachelor to take you in." "Must have used the same trick he used to get that bundle," the other Elf replied, reaching to touch Erestor who staggered back with stark terror written in his features. "But he's so mousy looking: that hair, the dark robes. I think the bruises add some color to him." "I hope you have a very good reason for being in my rooms," a sweaty and annoyed Glorfindel started, his sword in hand. His tunic, opened at the neck and chest revealed some well developed muscles. Figwit stared at the Elf and couldn't help letting his eyes wander downward, wishing the tunic was in slightly more disarray. "We just…well we wanted to know if it was true. I mean why anyone would want to have that in their room when they could have the pick of the litter. You know some say you could get Lord Elrond in your bed if you wished it." "Figwit you have until the count of three to get out of my sight. And since you love talking so much, let it be known the next fool to enter into my room without my permission will lose organs vital for procreation," Glorfindel menaced, pointing [his sword] at Figwit's groin. "One." "But I just…" "Two." "Thr…" Figwit fled, followed by his harpies. "Erestor I…" Glorfindel stopped noticing Erestor was still rooted to the spot as everything Figwit said repeated constantly in his mind. Glorfindel watched worried not even beginning to understand what was going through the Elf's head. "Erestor, please, don't listen to that idiot. You never cared before. do not let him get to you now." "Why…why do you think I didn't care before?" Glorfindel was about to respond with the way he was cold and distant to Figwit but then realized something he hadn't realized before. Erestor wasn't changing, the emotions he had hidden for so long were just too much to hide with all that was going on with him already. What Elf wouldn't want friends if he could have them? And at the same time what Elf would open himself up to the kind of abuse Figwit could merit out with a few harsh words? Erestor had chosen distance as his defence. But he must have always have been so lonely. Looking at Erestor, who had moved to a chair and was hiding behind his hair, he started to realize he did not really know this Elf at all. He had already shown himself to be an artist, no better than a beginner in a game he had believed Erestor to excel at, and self loathing he would have never thought possible in the Elf. "Erestor…would you like to learn to use a sword?" "A what?" "Sword. It's sharp, you place the pointed end in enemies." "I know what a sword is Glorfindel. Why would you want to teach me?" "It will give you something to do." "But my hand…and this thing…" Erestor said pointing to his belly. "Is not overly large yet so it will not interfere with short blades. Also warriors should be able to use both hands almost equally. There will always be a preference to your writing hand but both will be able to deal with an enemy." ****** The next few months were spent training in Glorfindel's study which was turned into a makeshift sparring area. Glorfindel had seen it build the confidence of the shiest elves and hoped it could do the same for Erestor. He would never be able to confront Thranduil as the frightened being he was. At first Glorfindel was seriously worried about Erestor, he would only train for a few minutes each day before claiming exhaustion. And that was only if he was awake to begin with. Glorfindel started spending the entire day with Erestor and slowly he began to do more than sleep. He worked with the Elf day in and out never telling him the real reason he wanted to teach him to defend himself. For some time he thought his efforts were a failure as Erestor still refused to go outside and never spoke to anyone but him or Tella. But he noticed little improvements, a greater disdain for Elrond and what he was sure at times was sarcasm could be found from the dark haired Elf towards his former Lord. He was far from healed but Glorfindel wanted to help in any way that he could. His thoughts turned to ways to prove Erestor had been telling the truth and vindicating the Elf. But between his time training and then on another border patrol where he was glad to see that Erestor had not been abused or deteriorated, but instead picked up his drawings again, Glorfindel found no spare time to have an investigation. He did not feel right entrusting this to any other Elf and there were so few of them he could trust with this. Magelin, yes he could trust the Elf but did not want to burden his friend with such a thing. Elladan he wasn't sure about how he truly felt about him. The Twins and Legolas had not seen Erestor since his move and some even believed that the reclusive Elf was gone. The thing that made Glorfindel the happiest was the friendship that they had formed. The biggest proof he had for that was the fact that Erestor allowed him to help him in the bath. He always remained fully clothed and did little more than help Erestor in and out of the water, but he knew such a simple thing to him must be terrifying to Erestor. "Glorfindel…Glorfindel…" Erestor threw a brush at him and the Elf caught it, coming out of his daze. "I'm sorry, did you say something?" "I said I think I prefer charcoal but it came out well," Erestor said holding up the picture of the blond Elf Lord with the symbol of his house in the background. "Well Erestor this is amazing. It's like looking into a mirror." Erestor shrugged picking up the third pad Glorfindel had got for him and decided to draw the blooming potted plant. Glorfindel went into his study to find a place for Erestor's latest piece, noticing he starting to run out of room. He wondered if it was vain to have so many images of himself. But there were almost as many of outside scenes. A knock on his door stopped his musing and opened it to find Elrond standing there stiffly for Erestor's now weekly visits. The great healer who Glorfindel was starting to believe knew about as much as Figwit would in birthing this child. But Erestor did have a point that his chances were better here than anywhere else. Elrond looked at the painting Glorfindel was holding and had to admit he was amazed by Erestor's hidden talent. The drawings around the room showed much skill and he almost wished he could commission the Elf to brighten up Imladris. "Why if it isn't our favourite Elf Lord," Glorfindel said blandly leading him into his room where Erestor put his drawing aside and started to move the paints aside. "Here, let me help," Glorfindel said taking the bottles back into the study as Erestor sealed them. Both ignoring Elrond until they were done. "Prod away master healer," Erestor said moving to the side of the bed and Elrond frowned not liking the fact that he couldn't tell if he was being insulted or not. The tone was neutral but so was most of what Erestor said. Sighing he moved to the side of the bed. Chapter 19 "In three weeks or so you should be ready to give birth." "And how exactly will he do that?" Glorfindel asked coming into his room clad only in a towel. Erestor averted his gauze despite the fact that Glorfindel was not shy. He was respectful and never flaunted his nudity, though he could tell at times Glorfindel forgot. He had started to suspect that the Elf had slept in the nude before their little living arrangement. "Err…" Elrond started realizing he had not given it much thought. Seeing that the pregnancy had progressed like a woman's he had forgotten what the principle difference was. "I suppose I will cut it out." "My faith in you increases daily," Glorfindel muttered pulling on a white shirt with some blue embroidery to match his blue leggings. "If you will excuse me," Elrond said stiffly as Glorfindel started brushing his hair. "As usual it was a pleasure," Glorfindel said and Erestor hid his smile behind his hair. "Erestor have you thought up any names?" "Names? For what?" "Your child." "Oh. No," Erestor said as picked up his sketch book again. "Take a step to the left please." Glorfindel did as he was told and Erestor went back to drawing. Glorfindel not realizing why Erestor asked him to move stayed there for a moment longer waiting for further instruction. Finally he decided to ask. "Why did you want me to move?" "You were blocking the plant which I was trying to draw until interrupted for my weekly prodding." "Are you not the least bit worried that Elrond has no idea how to deliver your child?" "Oh that, it turns out Elrond isn't that necessary. An old colleague of my father sent me a text. Seems this is more common in Silvan elves and they have some information on the birthing process." "And you were going to tell Elrond this when?" "He didn't ask," Erestor said. "Besides it only arrived a few days ago. It is not as if I am in any condition to go seek him out, even if I wanted to." "You don't like Elrond." "I used to be in love with him." "Elrond?! But he's been the worst to you next to his children." "It is why I am using the past tense Glorfindel. Please take him this," Erestor said taking a large text from the bedside table. Glorfindel left the room and Erestor put the sketch down. It was nothing more than a few lines but Glorfindel rarely looked. It had taken Erestor a month to realize how much Glorfindel neglected his own duties and friends to care for him. So he had built another mask. Not one of indifference, but one of life. He acted as if he did things when Glorfindel was gone. When he was there it wasn't too hard to pretend to be vibrant and alive. Glorfindel did make him feel slightly better, but he felt as if he was being swallowed whole by the darkness. It worked. Glorfindel no longer lost sleep over him and did not ignore training or other duties he had to sit with him. Erestor felt tears prick his eyes and took deep calming breaths. He couldn't cry now. He had no idea when Glorfindel was returning. He picked up the sketch again to try and distract his mind, never noticing as the lines became a face. Erestor shifted in his nest of pillows and started to drift off as his eyes shut. ***** Glorfindel entered Elrond's study and saw that the Elf was nowhere to be found. He looked at Figwit and Co. and sighed. "Make sure Elrond gets this when he returns." "Of course Lord Glorfindel," Figwit said and Glorfindel turned to leave as another one of the harpies entered balancing a patter of sticky sweets. "Move that big old thing, we need room," Figwit placed the book on the floor forgetting it almost instantly as they all had the honey glazed treats. Elrond walked in moments later and walked past the Elves without looking at them slammed the door shut. "Some one's in a bad mood," Figwit said with a giggle then returned to his snack. ****** "My Lady are you sure this is wise? To just storm in there?" "Thranduil, I am not storming. I will get to the bottom of this. I have known Erestor since he was but a quiet child hiding behind his father's robes. We received two very strange letters and this will be resolved." "What is there to resolve? He lies!" Viiresse hissed. "Calm yourself my Lady," Celeborn said quietly. "No one can lie to Galadriel and it will be a simple matter to clear this up," Celeborn said riding up to give the couple some time and catch up with his own wife. "My Lady, I have noticed you have yet to ask Thranduil what, if anything, he has done to Erestor. Why?" "Celeborn, I fear his answer. If he did do this thing he will have to be made to pay. And if he did not it is Erestor who will have to answer for his lies. The results of either scenario do not appeal to me." ****** "Oh…Oh…Elrohir!" Legolas screamed as the dark haired Elf pulled away. Elrohir had Legolas pinned to the ground and had been rubbing their wet, naked bodies together. Elladan continued to swim, used to their strange antics. "What's the matter little Prince? Can't you take a little teasing?" "I never tied you up!" Legolas shrieked, his erection throbbing almost painfully. "But you never asked either and I find that quite rude," Elrohir said standing and dressing as Elladan returned to shore. "Sorry to cut your play short boys but its going to rain and I would like to be inside when this storm hits," Elladan said looking at the clouds that were moving quickly towards the valley. Elrohir sighed and untied Legolas' hands and the Prince wasted no time bringing himself to completion, ignoring the twins. "For two people who are not in a relationship, you two are quite the intimate pair," Elladan said with a snicker. "If I tie him up will you torment him?" Elrohir asked. "I would much rather watch you two." "But we're…why would you want to see…" Elrohir trailed off as Elladan smirked. "Well first of all I would like to know who blushes more and just the idea of you and Elladan," Legolas licked his lips. "Though the best would be with me sandwiched between you." "Legolas, your mind is a strange place," Elrohir replied. "Brother is that the first time you have received such a request?" Elladan asked surprised. "You have before?" "Quite a few times. I think some of them would be quite happy if we were in such a relationship as long as we sold tickets," Elladan laughed and patted his brother's stunned shoulder. "I forget you always had the sweetest lovers, they would never admit such to you if they thought it." "And yours were, that one all over again," Elrohir said pointing at Legolas who grinned and slipped an arm about Elladan waist as they made their way back to the house just as it started to pour. "My lords, I'm glad you made it before the storm started. Lord Elrond was near sending out a search party. Come on we are all in the hall of Fire. From what Lord Elrond says it will be quite the storm." "Will you be playing Lindir?" Elrohir asked noticing that the minstrel was looking towards the room. "Yes, until dinner is ready. Hopefully we will be able to be heard over this noise," Lindir said as thunder boomed. ***** Glorfindel watched as Erestor read the book he had got for him for the library. The Elf had forgotten him completely and he didn't seemed the least bit bothered by the storm. "I'll be back in a little while." "Take your time," Erestor said calmly. "I'm enjoying this and I'm sure there are quite a few people that feel neglected by you." Glorfindel smiled but would never admit how true that little fact was. Or the fact that Erestor's permission was important to him as well. "I will return for dinner." "If you wish, I will most likely ignore you." "Its nice to know I rank below a book." "You do not rank below the book Glorfindel," Erestor sighed. "I didn't mean to…" "Erestor I'm kidding, enjoy your book. Just make sure you eat what Tella brings." "I will." ***** "My Lord…they…" an Elf panted but never finished as four very wet elves made their way into the room though none looked any less regal and royal. The same could not be said for their escorts who let their distress at the impromptu bath show. Elrond stared at the four elves clearly not sure who to address first. "What brings you all to Imladris?" "You know what Elrond," Galadriel said sternly as Elladan slipped from the room. He ran up to Glorfindel's room, banged on the door and opened it. "Glorfindel! Erestor!" Erestor looked up at the wild half Elf and shrunk into the chair. Elladan looked around and saw Erestor but no blond. "Erestor, please. I'm sorry. I won't hurt you I just wanted to warn you." "About what?" Erestor whispered always being able to tell when the Twins were lying. They had a habit of looking skywards right before. "Grandmother and Grandfather are here." "That is hardly reason to raise an alarm Elladan." "The King and Queen of Mirkwood are here as well." Erestor whimpered then felt a blinding pain and strange wetness. So much so that it pattered to the floor. He turned red in embarrassment. The mere mention of Thranduil and he soiled himself. "Is that what I think it is?" Elladan whispered, terrified. "Please, just go. I feel foolish enough." "Erestor, that happened to nana. Right before Arwen was born." "But it's three weeks early," Erestor said as a pain that felt like he was being torn apart ripped through him. "Come we have to get you to the healers," Elladan said reaching for Erestor who flinched. "Glorfindel…where is Glorfindel?" Chapter 20 Glorfindel looked about Erestor's room wondering if he would even be able to find anything. So many Elves had been through here. Cleaning, arranging and just being nosy. What evidence would there be? Even that blue robe had gone. Pacing around the bedroom he wondered what he would really find. Servants had been through the room dozens of times. They had cleaned and changed the sheets…Glorfindel looked and found they hadn't. These were the same sheets from his impromptu visit. He vividly remembered staring at the pattern as he held a naked, sobbing Erestor close. Counting the little circles as he waited for the Elf to calm. Without another thought Glorfindel stripped the bed, but there was nothing on the mattress. Not a stain, not even a mark of a past stain. Sighing he tossed the sheet on top of the bed knowing it did not matter. Using the other door to exit the room he caught sight of something but before his mind could register the small bit of fabric under the bed he heard a frantic voice from down the hall. "Glorfindel…where is Glorfindel…" Rushing back to his own room, the short distance never ceased to amaze him. Here he was living in the same corridor as Erestor and before now he hadn't known it. Their rooms were worlds apart. Entering his own room he was surprised to see Elladan warily watching Erestor who let out a pain filled groan. "Erestor! What is wrong?" He asked, kneeling before the Elf and noticing that his leggings were absorbing some liquid. "It is like Nana," Elladan whispered, the similarities to the scene he had witnessed before were unnerving. But then it had been Elrond kneeling in birth fluid, while his mother had whimpered in pain. Why was it always him experiencing this? "He is ready to give birth," Elladan murmured, coming out of his own daze. "But it's early," Glorfindel said quietly. "You don't think I know that?!" Erestor snarled. Glorfindel shirked a little, reminded of Erestor's mood swings. He still wasn't brave enough to handle Erestor in his anger. "Elladan go get your father, sadly he is the Elf best equipped to handle this. We will meet him in the healing wing." "See that is where we have a problem, it is why I came here in fact. We er…um have guests." "Guests?" Glorfindel asked as he stood, never taking his eyes off Erestor who's expression was one of agony. "My Grandparents and…the King and Queen of Mirkwood." "Oh Valar just what we need. Get him anyway!" Glorfindel said as Erestor moaned again. He was no expert on pregnancy but was there not a respite from the pain? Erestor seemed to be in prolonged agony. Carefully lifting the Elf into his arms he walked out of the room as Elladan flew past him, to his father he assumed. ****** "Come, you all could use a change of clothes and some hot tea. You are drenched to the bone," Elrond said not wanting to address the real reason the Elves had arrived. Viiresse seemed to be the only one besides the escorts who wanted to take up the offer. "Cold does not disturb us as much as it does you. The water is a nuisance Elrond and you know it. Do I have to haul you by the ear or can we continue this in private?" Galadriel snarled and despite the silence only the five of them heard her threat. For a moment Elrond looked stunned. It was rare that Galadriel was cross with him. "Fine, Lindir," Elrond said and the music started up a heartbeat later as they all made their way to the door. Joined by Legolas and Elrohir, the group walked in silence until Celeborn was nearly knocked over by his grandson. "Elladan, I would think you were much too old to be scolded for running in the halls." "I'm sorry," Elladan panted. "It's just that…" "Erestor is in labour," Elrohir said flatly as his brother tried to catch his breath. "Is that true?" Elladan nodded as his grandfather held him up. "Healing wing," Elladan panted as Celeborn stroked his hair. Elrond growled and turned in that direction. With a small frown Celeborn lifted Elladan into his arms. "Elladan, you know first hand it takes hours for a child to be born. If you had been more careful you would not be nursing a sprained ankle now," Celeborn said, knowing Elladan's panting was from more than exertion. "Too many stairs," Elladan whined into his grandfather's tunic feeling like a small child being carried about. "You are lucky you didn't break your neck. Why did you rush so?" "It doesn't stop. Nana would hurt then it would stop for a little while, then start. It hasn't stopped." "It is that way with males, there are more changes happening," Galadriel said noting the three of them were trailing far behind the others. She quickly placed herself between the four other Elves and Elrond, stopping their forward progression. "Legolas, I'm sure your parents would be happy to get out of their wet clothes, why not show them somewhere where they can do that." "One would think you do not want us there," Thranduil said annoyed. "And what, Thranduil, would you do there? I did not know you were a healer along with your other talents." "Don't you think that it's about time Erestor faced me?" "And do what? Confess his sins while screaming in the throws of labour? Do something useful and go with your wife. Its clear a woman of her station is not used to such harsh conditions," Galadriel said, glancing at the pampered Queen. Viiresse huffed indignantly, not about to take an order from Galadriel. But, before she could say anything, Thranduil took her arm leading her away. "We will learn nothing as he brings a child into the world. Legolas come." "But Ada…" "Now!" The Prince lowered his head and followed his Father and Mother back towards the Hall of Fire. Elrohir looked at his Grandmother, not sure what his place would be. "You will assist Elladan while your Grandfather and I aid Elrond." "Elladan?" Elrohir asked perplexed. "Your dear brother has injured his ankle, I'm quite sure you have been trained to treat such simple injuries." "Yes," Elrohir said receiving Elladan into his arms who winced. "Ro, move your arm. I have some bruises as well." "How far did you fall?" Celeborn asked. "About half way, then I went down the rest." "Elladan, Elves are not supposed to trip." "Shut up 'Ro," Elladan said relaxing against his brother. "Then start behaving like a proper Elf," he replied with a grin. "NOOOOOOO! Stop!!! Put the knife down! Elrond Please!" Erestor's frantic shrieks stopped the playful banter and all three Elves ran the rest of the way. Celeborn and Galadriel entered first, as Elrohir carrying Elladan brought up the rear. "I will sedate you if I must!" Elrond yelled. "Why are you trying to butcher me?!" Erestor shrieked. Elrond turned to Glorfindel who was just as bewildered as he was. "Glorfindel," Erestor said suddenly and the blond was at his side in an instant. Galadriel entered the room, then moving to Elrond she took the knife from him. "Go tend to Elladan," she said pointing to where Elrohir was placing his brother down. "You left my life in the hands of that thing?! That inept…" Erestor snarled his strength surprising Glorfindel who could not break the hold. "Erestor, surly strangling Glorfindel is not going to make things better," Celeborn said calmly prying the fingers off the blond as Glorfindel rubbed his neck. "Does this mean the pain has passed?" Galadriel asked and Erestor refused to meet her gaze. "I'm sorry," he whispered, looking down at his hands. "I know but this baby still needs to be born," Galadriel said. TBC...
