Summary: Glorfindel and Gildor are emissaries to Mirkwood bringing a few unexpected guests with them. Erestor catches Glorfindel’s eye, while Glorfindel catches the attention of Legolas. Matchmaking, competitive elves, the Sons of Elrond, and a lone marchwarden complicate things.

Story notes: Written for the My Slashy Valentine 2010 fiction exchange. This tale marks a return to the Tolkien fandom for me. I, of course, have embellished by giving the requestor a bit more than they asked for in terms of pairings. I hope it does both the request and my respect for the professor’s work some justice. There are canonical minor characters in this fic. If you would like an explanation of who they are in canon, and whom I’ve made them here, see the postscript. I’ve tried to use Elvish names for places, rather than the common, in dialog as much as possible to add a bit of authenticity. Song title from Fuel’s “Shimmer,” – I love irony. There’s some angst, a little humor, and a whole lot of romance going on here. Enjoy!
